  1. Did MLB make Chapman go to any kind of counseling as part of his 30 games suspension? It seems like they should have. If so, the question becomes whether he deserves a second chance. There's no easy answer to that question either. The fact that he accepted the suspension *could* indicate that he knows what he did was wrong. I didn't want this guy on the Cubs but here he is.
  2. It's actually in Mr. Mom twice IIRC, right after Michael Keaton gets shot and says "I loved this shirt".

  4. How is the hell is Rozival still on this team? Mashinter I can kind of be ok with because hes only 27 and a depth 'in case of emergency' piece. But Rozival is old and is likely only going to sign unless he is going to play at least somewhat. Otherwise he'd just retire and we can forget he ever existed. Roszival only made $650K last year. The Hawks could stash his entire salary in Rock Vegas with no effect on the cap. Mashinter is completely useless.
  5. No, I agree with Sneaky. And there's been some reporting that other teams had no idea Hall was available and are actually pissed at Edmonton because they would have happily offered far more than Adam Larsson. The Subban trade isn't great for Montreal, but they're still getting back a stud d-man. Yes, he's older. But Therrien apparently had issues with PK and they couldn't let him run the entire ship. I think Subban/Weber is worse. Hall for Larsson can at least be rationalized as trading a winger for a defenseman. It's a horrible, horrible deal. But it does balance Edmonton a little better and there's some chance Larsson breaks out soon (I don't expect that, as I said it's a horrible deal). But in trading Subban, Montreal traded a top 5 defenseman in the world for maybe the 20th-30th best defenseman in the world. Weber is also 4 years older and signed until forever (2026). He's clearly in decline at this point. That contract could be a disaster in a few years. I don't see any possible logic aside from wanting to move Subban for "character" issues. It doesn't even save them very much money (I think I saw $1.5 mil)
  6. Because they can't score Subban for Weber. The worst trade in the history of the NHL? The worst trade in the history of sports? The worst trade in the history of trade? The only thing that could make this trade worse is if the Habs asked for Seabrook but he or the Hawks refused. This isn't a knock on Seabrook, but if you can get a much better, younger player straight up you pretty much have to make that deal.
  7. They still have Jake Gallon. Wait until the Blues don't re sign Backes and Brouwer, that ought to be fun. Much as I like Shaw, I'm glad someone else will give him the money that he'll wind up getting. This reminds me a lot of when they traded Ben Smith. He was a fan favorite and a versatile player but he wasn't irreplaceable.
  8. I turned the game on when it was already 2-1. I can't believe England mounted enough pressure to even draw a foul. They were dreadful.
  9. Michael Jordan
  10. I'm in denial. The Pens aren't winning. The Sha arks haven't led in regulation through 4 games. That's pretty amazing.
  11. So... I guess the Pens have reinforced the idea that speed wins Cups.
  12. That was the whole reason this board was started...to weed out the Cubs.com level riff raff. That's why this is the least terrible faction of Cubs fans on the internet. This board was started to foster intelligent and respectful discussion. I think it's fair to say that we have often strayed from that path. It's also fair to say that patience has it's limits with regards to what constitutes "intelligent discussion". I think overall that anyone that thinks this place is especially hard on newcomers has never read any other board on the intrawebs and should not in the future. As imperfect as this place is, it's still miles better than other places.
  13. Maybe he only watched the first 7 minutes.
  14. Penguins playing hockey makes much more sense than Sharks. I think this series goes 7. I may even watch some of it as it should be exciting hockey. I missed most of game one but the parts I saw during the 2nd period had a lot of end to end play. I think I trust Jones more than Murray so Sha arks in 7. That ought to just about guarantee a Pens victory.
  15. Looks fine on my phone. Android. I think you're confusing him with David. Or is that a period and not a comma?
  16. Lightning ruin my perfect bracket in the east. Should be a fun Cup final. I'm not sure I want to win. I like Pavelski but I'm tired of hearing about Burns. I don't really want Crosby to win another Cup but I would like to see Kessel shove it in the collective faces of Leafs fandom.
  17. Speaking of Baez, does Soler get sent down once Heyward returns.
  18. Looks like with bonuses he could make up to $925,000. http://www.secondcityhockey.com/2016/5/23/11575998/blackhawks-sign-michal-kempny-contract-NHL- Looks like a great deal for the Hawks.
  19. Those seem like reasonable destinations if they make clear the necessary cap space.
  20. I've heard people try to compare the KHL to the NHL and it sounds a little like the KHL is to the NHL what the Japanese League is to MLB with people calling it 4A. Just like there are marginal MLB players that can thrive in Japan, there are some fringe NHL guys that are stars in the KHL. Cam Barker led the league in points among defensemen. Then again, there are guys like Ichiro that come to MLB and have really good careers as well as a few serviceable players. The Hawks don't need Kempny to be a star. He might be able to give the same level of production as Oduya- I would think that would be his ceiling. Like anyone else, he'll have to adjust to the smaller ice which is a bigger deal for defensemen.
  21. Only on the condition that he shortens his name to Al Burquerque
  22. I don't believe it's a question of Soler being terrible defensively so much as he has to hit to be valuable since he's not likely to make a positive difference with his defense.
  23. I've been thinking that maybe he might go back to Tampa on a shorter deal to prove he's healthy. Blood clots are a big deal and Stamkos has missed large stretches with injuries before. It's an interesting situation since guys like Stamkos don't become available at 26 very often. But it would have to give another GM pause to give him $10 mil + per season in light of those injuries.
  24. Not really, Panik isn't going to make a lot of money. The last nail will come when they see the salary cap and realize that they can't even pay Shaw $2.5 mil which would be the minimum they could offer him. There's also speculation that another team might give Shaw an offer sheet for $3.5 mil. This would only cost that team their 2nd round pick which is probably what Shaw would command in a trade. Shaw wants to stay and the Hawks want to keep him but the Hawks can't (and really shouldn't) pay Shaw what he could get from someone else.
