Remember that string of marginal players that went to the Cards, turned in all star worthy performances then sucked as soon as they left St. Louis? Maybe this will be the start of a reverse trend where Fowler has 2 bad seasons, the Cards trade him, he becomes good again and the BFIB give him a standing ovation for hitting .230 while he was there. Forget that last part, Dexter Fowler isn't white.

Is it possible they'd trade him? It seems pretty unlikely but maybe someone came to them with a good offer and they want to see where they stand as they weight their options. Not sure what that deal could look like but it would explain the sudden interest in extension talks.

Will Soler have a higher offensive fWAR than Javy's total fWAR

I've always seen Soler as a modern day version of Kal Daniels- a good player when healthy but never as good or as healthy as he ought to be. -

How many teams actually spend to the luxury tax? The players should be asking for a salary floor. They could get support from the rich owners as it forces the Minnesota Twins of the world to invest their luxury tax dividend into making the team better instead of simply keeping the money.

Those involved rosters full of older and very expensive players that were cashed in to replenish the farm for another run later. The Cubs aren't lacking for young, cheap talent- at least not yet.

The real question is whether the Sox are going to commit to being horrible for a couple years and follow the model of the Royals and Cubs? If so, they want high end guys that are a couple years away more so than guys that will help them win now. So maybe they'd take either of Schwarber or Baez plus Happ and some other pieces rather than demanding both. -
Maybe they will just see what they have through the season and see how they feel about renting someone at the deadline. The Cubs really have a lot of close games last season so not having a dominant closer isn't that big of a deal through July. The comments about "Looking for the next great closer" supports that idea.

How many teams call up more than 10 players? It seems like most teams call up closer to 7.

Toews is the Kris Bryant of hockey except that he's also Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Hendricks. My favorite line about Toews: Jonathon Toews wins at walking down the street". Same can now be said for Bryant.
