  1. 8/8/88- Had SRO tickets for the first night game at Wrigley. Bill Murray walked right past us on his way to the booth to harass Steve Stone. First batter for the Phillies (Steve Henderson?) hit one on to Waveland avenue off of Suttcliffe and everyone said "Turn out the lights". Then it rained for 3 hours and they finally called the game. At one point, Greg Maddux, Jamie Moyer, Jody Davis and Al Nipper did a slip and slide around the bases on the wet tarp. Don Zimmer was pissed and everybody but Maddux I think got traded in the off season. Then some drunk girl in a tube top type dress ran onto the field and tried to slip and slide too. She never made it as far as the tarp though.
  2. Some Mets' prospect is going to not have a hall of fame career because TEBOW TOOK HIS AT BATS!
  3. I suppose that those dudes should be allowed to do whatever they want, but that stuff is just so childish. I'm not surprised at the names of players who stuck up for the practices. And while dressing up the newcomers as cheerleaders might be fine in a vacuum, it is going to get emulated by kids (which Arrieta hints at), and I think most of us here have seen how swiftly out of hand things like this can get. Simply no need for it. They don't seem to understand that the issue is not with hazing, or being mean to the players, but rather that hazing, or being mean to the young players was being defined by them as making men dress like women because women be weak and therefore you are weak if you dress like them hahaha you are uncomfortable. You're expecting that level of nuance from baseball players? Bless your heart.
  4. I can't envision a scenario where he gets a hit ever again I understand the sarcasm, but at some point don't we need to be concerned? I know ST stats don't really matter, but I am worried this new/old swing isn't the change we needed. I think they should've completely revamped his swing instead of getting him to return to his old swing circa 2012-13. I'm no swing mechanics expert, but I still don't like how he looks so far in the batter's box. The bat speed is fine, but his timing is still off. It is better than last year but... It's too early to tell. Changing mechanics is not going to be something that sees immediate results. The difficulty is trusting that it will get better and sticking with it until it clicks. I haven't seen any ST games. Is Heyward grounding out weakly to second base like he's Juan Pierre?
  5. Keith Law. Definitely way in the know. Isn't he a pretty notorious Cubs hater or am I confusing him with someone else? I don't claim to know anything about a baseball swing but didn't Derrek Lee make the same adjustment that Heyward is trying to make now?
  6. https://cdn2.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/3971702/GettyImages-52214350.0.jpg I'd rather have these.
  7. He'll look good in a Yankee uniform.
  8. Ben Zobrist had 18 HRs and batted .272 last year. Fine 14 HRs. Not really the point but adjusted to better reflect mediocre performance by a corner OF that will likely strike out 200 times.
  9. squarely in the middle of what? that'd be an amazing accomplishment by him. I assumed he meant the St. Lucie Mets... Never assume. 18 HRs over the course of the season would be a good season for Tebow but not for most anybody else (or am I so spoiled by our own players that I don't realize that 18 HRs represents good production from a corner OF these days?) I enjoy how much people feel the need to either hate or defend Tebow. Why does anyone care enough to argue about this guy?
  10. I'd like to see Tebow make the Mets roster and hit around .265 with about maybe 18 HRs. That would put him squarely in the middle of people with nothing better to do getting bent out of shape over whether or not he's any good. I'm also fine with never hearing about him again.
  11. I'll save everyone the trouble: Charo is 65.
  12. Got him for free, basically. McNeil was never going to play ant meaningful role for the Hawks. The 4th round round pick turns into a 3rd round if the Hawks win the cup. Totally worth it. What does Oduya have left? Not really sure but he adds depth where there wasn't very much.
  13. Caps getting Shattenkirk is likely the most important trade so far. Not sure about the guys they gave up but the Caps got better and it will be up to the other contenders in the East to respond.
  14. Jamie Vardy suddenly remembers how to score goals.
  15. St. Louis "pizza" for one thing.
  16. We were talking about the unseasonably warm weather and someone said that their doctor said "we need snow to kill all the germs that are going around making everyone sick." I thought cold doesn't kill germs but just makes them dormant.
  17. Great moments in U10 soccer. It's the playoffs and we're tied when one of my players gets called for a handball with 30 seconds left in the game. The free kick from 10 feet goes in and we lose. All I can think about is "Cool, now we don't have to stick around for another hour on this beautiful day when it's 70 degrees outside in February." The mother of the kid who got called for the handball came up afterwards to apologize to me and I felt like saying to her son "You're 7 years old. Anybody that gives you any blame for that is a horsefeathering horsefeathers." Instead I told him to forget about, that he'd have plenty of soccer games left in the future.

  19. Kyle Hendricks, CPA Hap Baez- only time he's not smiling is when he's trying to remember the names of his teammates. John Jay - His honor or perhaps the honorable
  20. How long have you been sitting that one? 108 days, like he said. The last time the Cubs won the World Series, Barack Obama was president.
  21. Yes, I think that's wise There's still a few more I'd like to see: "Jason Heyward doesn't care that Tree hates him more than cancer" "Jason Heyward: chicken salad" "Jason Heyward will stop being Todd Hundley"
  22. What's Sean Marshall doing these days? Was that a Theo trade or did that happen before he got there?
  23. Considering how awful the coyotes and Vancouver are, you'd think the Sha arks would have put up more points.
