  1. Sydney Crosby with his 1000th point. Fastest to 1,000 among active players. Not a huge fan of the guy but hats off to him for that accomplishment. I'd be curious to know how many of those are secondary assists but my guessing not a lot.
  2. All that can't be a coincidence. Oh wait, yes it can. FTH is this English reduction system where Chicago and Chicago Cubs adds up to the same number?
  3. Yes. I can understand this rule in a short tournament that doesn't matter like the WBC but not for regular season MLB games. Give the NL the DH and you won't have to worry as much about running out of pitchers, if that's the concern. I happen to love it when a position player comes in to pitch.
  4. 81. Now we've reached the Bon Jovi point of this series.
  5. Seriously. It seemed like the Cubs played the Phillies every other week. Or the Mets
  6. I went upstairs to put my son to bed right after the Pats scored their 1st TD, which pretty much ended any chance of winning the pool. Fell asleep and woke up after the game was over. Good thing I don't bet on football since I would have taken Atlanta and the under. In my defense, Atlanta should never have brought the over into play or lost the game.
  7. Where's the none of the above option? I don't seem him as being any of those things. Trump is petty. He seems to take offense easily and for a politician, which he now is, he is very thin skinned and takes everything personally. He's a spoiled rich kid that is used to getting his way. Trump is dangerous. He's operating the country the way he'd operate a business. Many people have been clamoring for a long time about electing someone that isn't a politician that has business acumen. Last time we did that was Herbert Hoover which didn't exactly work out too well. Trump is a shock jock. Most of what he says is to achieve the desired effect which is to set him apart from other politicians. He's not Hitler and America is not Weimar Germany. If he was genuinely evil, he'd be more calculated in what he does and would pander for more support. For example, the ban on immigrants from terrorist countries would be a lot better received on the heels of the next terrorist attack. Trump is not that savvy. He's already played all of his trump cards (no pun intended). We'll see what happens when the push back starts, which it most certainly will.
  8. brief state of the Hawks article from TCI. http://thecommittedindian.com/mission-report/#more-18180
  9. Actual conversation with Brent Musburger I had back in the 90s. He was in town to cover Illinois playing Colorado. This was the year after Colorado had lost their bowl game to Notre Dame. Musburger "Hello young man, I'd like a coke or something like that please." Me: "Sure" My boss who was standing at the bar: "Would you like some Jack Daniels in that coke?" Musburger: "it would be a hellofagame if I did that." Me: "it works for Harry Caray" He laughed and said no thanks. We tried to get him to talk about the game and all we could get out of him was that he thought it was an interesting match up. That was a terrible story.
  10. Here's what's working in the Hawks favor. First, there's the idea that they are saving themselves for the playoffs. It's an endless debate whether they can actually do this but the veterans on this team clearly have run out of GAS at this stage of the season. Second, great goal tending can carry a team through the playoffs. Third, there really aren't any great teams in the West. The Oil are too young, The Sha arks and Kings are too old. The Ducks always find a way to lose. That leaves the Wild. I'm not losing any sleep about them.
  11. you should probably feel free to start one but I don't think many people here give a flying fig about it. This super bowl is a referendum on how much people hate the Patriots (is it ok to call them the Hatriots?) Maybe a poll would be more appropriate.
  12. Here are the trouble spots from what I've seen or read. They really miss Kruger as his absence sends a ripple through the rest of the team. Toews has to match up against the other team's best line which has made his possession numbers look bad- they are bad but he doesn't have the same caliber of line mates that he's had in the past. It also means that Kero and Hinostroza have been playing in roles that they really shouldn't. On the defensive side of things, Keith looks a lot like "We won the cup last year so wake me when the games mean something" version. How does TVR play ahead of Kempny ever? They can't protect TVR in the expansion draft so hopefully they can trade him before the deadline. Campbell and Seabrook have been good but periodically show their age. The team has lived and died with excellent goal tending which props up their possession numbers which still aren't great.
  13. Should there be a separate thread to talk about the superbowl or retitle this one? Highest over under ever at 57.5. I like the under with the Pats winning 26-24 thus not covering the spread.
  14. So instead of being guaranteed 3 games, each team will only be guaranteed 2. This sounds like a recipe for running up the score when you play the crappy team in your group then playing to a scoreless draw in the other game so you can advance on goal differential. Also, won't having 3 teams in a group mess up the scheduling?
  15. I stopped "hate watching" it and now I read "hate reviews" on the innerwebs. It takes less time. I admit I do want to see how it ends because it will be terrible.
  16. Does Twin Peaks count? I really loved the first season. The second was beyond bad. I even watched Fire Walk with Me which has to be considered for worst film ever.
  17. The criteria should be what show did you watch a lot longer than you should have so that it can encompass The Walking Dead. Of the shows not mentioned yet, MASH would have to be in there somewhere. Like other shows, it started out edgy and creative then devolved into an unwatchable mess the last few seasons (When Gary Burghoff left?). Yet everybody watched the series finale.
  18. I wonder if Maddon got the idea from this movie http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/80194/The-Kid-from-Left-Field/ Dan Daley did essentially the same thing except he had the pitcher move to third base. I also remember Fernando Valenzuela playing OF for the Dodgers for one inning back in the 80s.
  19. He knows he can't make hard contact with Lundquist there as it's a penalty. His responsibility is to close off the reverse along the boards. If he wants to pursue the puck there was room between Lundquist and the net. He launched into him and targeted his head. He deserves 5 games for this so he'll probably get 2.

  21. The Cubs do love me. They drafted Kris Bryant and won the world series. If that's not love I don't know what is. Of course they'd like me to go to more games but I live 850 miles away. But they're going to come out to Baltimore (The poor man's Indianapolis) just to see me. I'm so excited. Does this help you?
  22. There's an old series called "When it was a game" that has a lot of old home movies from the 60s that you might want to check out. There's a lot of cool field level stuff and a lot of it is in color. I picked up the 60s-70s in a discount bin somewhere. I like to show it when I talk about the civil rights movement in class.
  23. Maybe instead of selling these to someone else as season tickets they are just going to add them to the available pool to sell. Can they make more money that way by selling them as "premium games" or whatever? It's not like they have trouble selling tickets after April.
  24. Perhaps they're getting a pass because of all the injuries. They shouldn't but it's not unreasonable to give them the first 4 games of next season. Or maybe the plan was to tank this year so they could draft Cutler's replacement.
  25. That net doesn't look like it would actually stop anything from going through.
