  1. Amy, go out and throw 98 pitches. Then tell me how much your fastball is cracking. It may not be exhausted, but it's tired. Compare that to a lights out closer that is fresh, and tell me which one is more likely to be effective.
  2. Yeah, the Sox weren't going to blow that lead. The jumped out too far at the start of the year and built an almost insurmountable lead.
  3. So let me get this straight... you'd rather put a dead tired starter on the mound in the 9th inning with the game on the line, than a dominating closer that is fresh, and is paid to slam the door? Wow. Going the distance is fine. But you put the pitcher out there that is going to help your team win the most. A dead tired guy, and a fresh guy that is extremely dominant shouldn't even be an argument.
  4. The arguments have been the same since page 2 of this thread. I honestly thought it'd be locked long ago. But it keeps me entertained at work, and hasn't gotten too hostile... yet. I'm sure it'll be locked soon though, which is fine.
  5. That is hilarious. JT is finally going to succumb to one of the many vd's he has aquired. Penicillin is no longer effective for him. That's what happens when you are infected dozens of times and they grow a tolerance for conventional medication. Wait, I thought that if you have more than one type of VD, they cancel each other out. Man, I knew I should've paid attention in sex ed.
  6. Apples and oranges man. Why don't you just throw Mark Grace into the mix then. He pitched before.
  7. Um, sure, if you're simply looking at Wins: Zambrano - 28-13 Maddux - 27-22 Prior - 16-9 Wood - 11-13 But he has the worst two-year ERA of the four, the lowest K/9IP, and this year, the worst WHIP. He also leads the 2005 Cubs in losses, HR allowed, Hits allowed, lowest Pitches/Start, and earned runs. Maddux isn't a strike out pitcher, those other guys are. He also doesn't use as many pitches for that same reason. He's way more efficient than them. And you can't put Kerry Wood ahead of Greg Maddux for the past two years. To be helping the team, you actually have to be on the mound. He's been our third best, possibly second best, whether we like to admit it or not.
  8. A little off topic, but IMB, are you giving up hope on the five guys in your sig already? I saw that and started cracking up.
  9. And for some reason, he seems to think that ERA is the only thing that Clemens is good at.
  10. It's funny that they accuse us of seeing only Cubbie blue, yet they can't get past all of that red that's in front of their eyes to see that the stats show Clemens is having a better year.
  11. Wow, and Amy completely missed the point on all of this. I'd like to bet that if you asked everyone here, the majority would tell you that hate Roger Clemens. That includes me. I don't hate Chris Carpenter. So this has nothing to do with 'seeing only Cubbie Blue'. It has to do with the fact that Clemens stats are better this year. And the only person to bring up Mark Prior was your boy K-Town. Prior isn't even close to being in the running for the Cy Young this year. Yes, we all see the value is someone who can throw complete games. But we also see what happened to Carpenter last time he threw 200 innings... So you guys just keep throwing your precious complete games in meaningless situations with a pitcher that's only gone over 200 innings once in his career, and then had to be put on the shelf right after. But hey, none of that matters if he wins a meaningless award though right?
  12. I don't recall anyone calling you names. Someone called your post ignorant I believe, but personal attacks are not allowed here.
  13. I never said anything about your posts being offensive. I said you were trying to rile people up with little subtle cheap shots and snide remarks. And there are way more than 2 examples of that. Wrapping a cheap shot up in compliments doesn't change the fact that it's a cheap shot. It's like the compliment sandwich where you say something nice about someone, then something mean, then something nice again. "You look like Snoopy and it makes me smile.... You have smelly dog farts... Oh, you really wowed that rep from Cincinnati last week."
  14. A Rueben sandwich. And you're going to make one for me out of the kindness of your heart. I'm really hungry.
  15. Don't tell me to settle down, I'm actually quite calm. You've been doing this ever since you got here, and as you can see, I'm not the only one that's noticed. You'll make your little cheap shot here and there, and then try to cover it up with comments like, "oh, but I'd love to have Prior on my team."
  16. Fight the good fight, Amy. I've done my best, but you'll never get past the ERA thing. :) Not when Clemens' ERA is three quarters of a run better while seemingly every other category (minus wins and IP) is either a draw, or favors Clemens. Then no, you won't get past the ERA thing. I honestly believe that Carpenter is going to win the Cy Young. But this isn't a discussion on who will win it, it's a discussion on who should win it. And there are 32 pages of statistics proving that Clemens is having the better year (minus Carpenter's innings pitched and K Town's conspiracy theories on why Clemens doesn't throw complete games) K-Town: Yes, you are trying to bait people here by saying that. It's like your Prior comment from yesterday. There was absolutely no reason to say it other than to try and get people riled up here, but you said it anyway. Then when you were called on it, you backed down. But back to your question: If the ERA gap is only .3 by the end of the year (that is if Clemens goes up to 1.8 or 1.9 while Carp drops to 2.1), then Carp will probably deserve the award. But there is a huge difference between a .3 gap, and a .75 gap.
  17. Yeah, I heard it. I was impressed. The Wrigley ad was geared more toward the tradition of baseball, which was really cool. I got chills hearing it too. The Sox ads with the dad from That 70's Show on the other hand...
  18. I agree. It's sad that many voters base some of these awards on the team's performance. I think the Cubs being this bad has completely cost Lee any shot at the award. Even though without him, I'm not even sure the Cubs would have 25 wins right now. But sadly, that's the way it goes.
  19. You know what, yep, you win. Chris Carpenter (Or should I call him Christ Carpenter? Is that more fitting?) is the greatest pitcher of all time. The St. Louis Cardinals are the best thing ever to happen to this planet, and anyone who doesn't agree will not make it to heaven. Roger Clemens is a horrible pitcher who doesn't even deserve to catch the home run balls that Carp throws up. You win, congratulations. Lets forget about the previous 30 pages where people consistently proved your stats wrong or meaningless. And we'll just all go back to watching cartoons in my basement while eating Apple Jacks.
  20. Well, considering that even you've called yourself a homer in this thread on many occasions, yes, you are a homer. Yeah, Clemens pulled himself out of a game... AFTER 8 SHUTOUT INNINGS. You keep forgetting to mention that fact. And no, you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA why Garner pulls Clemens. You have your opinion of why he does. Stop trying to pass that off as fact. Your arguments here aren't very valid. You back nothing up with stats. You base all of this Clemens stuff on your OPINION. And the worst part is that you're really starting to get on many of the regular poster's nerves. If you want to talk about this race, that's fine. But don't pull stuff out of the air. At least have some reasonable information to back it up.
  21. What will it take?.... an act of God.
  22. And you know all of this for a fact? Wow, I didn't know they let Cardinal fans into the Astros dugout. CPATTERSON20: This argument is getting out of hand. It's obvious this guy won't listen to stats. He'd rather make half baked accusations about Clemens being out of gas all the time, or bring up the fact that Clemens pulled himself with a bad back a few weeks ago... but fail to mention that it was after his 8th shutout inning that day. He's a homer, and he won't listen to anyone else's rational opinion as long as a Cardinal is involved in the race for the award.
  23. That was one of the funniest moments I've seen in baseball. Prior probably would've been killed by Barry if he charged the mound, but he stood his ground anyway. Prior needs to get that swagger back. Agreed. I gained so much respect for him that day. He wasn't trying to hurt Barry, he was trying to establish his zone, and keep Barry from crowding the plate. The fact that he had the guts to do it to possibly the greatest hitter of all time, and then stand his ground about it, was awesome. Even better was that he went up to Bonds at the all star game and explained why he did it, and said there were no hard feelings.
