  1. I am too... sadly it's not going to involve the Cubs.
  2. I'm with you, only instead of everyone getting fired, everyone will get three year extensions. Oh, and the Cubs pay to have Macias and Neifi declared unquestioned rulers of the world. Dusty rejoices. BleedCubbieBlue cries.
  3. FURCAL. 1) He's better. 2) Why give up prospects for a player five years older that you would probably have to give Fucal-like money in a year to keep? Doesn't make sense. Lugo is only two years older than Furcal...not five. Wasn't Furcal one of the guys that had their true age found out a few years ago? So at one point, he might have been five years younger than Lugo on paper. I'd take Furcal over Lugo in a heartbeat. Slightly better at the plate, better on the basepaths, better defensively, WAY better arm (probably the best in baseball)...
  4. Hahaha I cant wait to see what new idiot athlete or management type ESPN hires. I mean, geez, who can beat John Kruk, Sean Salisbury, and then morons like Steve Phillips. By far the worst, in my opinion, is John Kruk though. I can't stand him. Scoop Jackson. I don't think they ever put him on tv, but his racist ESPN.com articles make me want to hurt small animals. Oh, and they use Mariotti on Around the Horn. Kruk is annoying, but tolerable compared to those two.
  5. Don't be silly. This is the Cubs, that'll never happen. [sets worthless Burnitz baseball cards on fire]
  6. That is absolutely hilarious
  7. Is Nomar's house in Wilmette done being built yet? Mia likes it here. That could play a small role in this whole decision. If the Cubs want to lowball him, they might be able to get away with it. It's better than overpaying for Furcal in my eyes. We can use the Furcal money to get an outfield. I wouldn't mind paying Nomar 2 or 2.5 for one year with incentives based on production, plate appearances, etc. Just cover your back in case of another injury.
  8. I saw that picture earlier. I love that Ozzie is catching the camera out of the corner of his eye. According to Yahoo, that's Ozzie and his son. Either way, that's one strange family, and that picture could end up haunting them for along time.
  9. Agreed. I wore my Cubs hat to work today again (like I always do), and people started giving me crap. They'd sit there and tell me how great it was to support a winning team, and how great it feels to be a world champion. (Then there were the customary words that I can't put on here) When I looked at them with a straight face and said, "Congratulations, they played really well." You could tell that they were getting mad that it didn't bother me. In reality, I wanted to strangle them, but the mental torture of them finally realizing the Cards are our biggest rival and not them was much more satisfying. By the way, for all of those not living in the city... you're lucky. The physical and verbal abuse is getting out of hand. I feel like we need the Bears to win the Super Bowl so the whole city will be united again... at least until the spring.
  10. For the first time in a long time, I actually agree with Ozzie on this one. Screw the police, let Biggio take care of it. I know if I were married, I'd want to have a word with someone that went after my wife.
  11. I guess he's become a "Chicago fan" now too. What is the world coming to? http://www.cusack101.com/johnsing2.JPG
  12. Two more worth throwing out there: Frankie Muniz: LA Clippers Billy Crystal: LA Clippers Anyone who doesn't find it embarrasing to call themselves a fan of the Clippers is a true fan. John Cusack lives and dies with the Cubs. He goes to many games each year, and he usually refuses preferencial treatment. He likes to sit in the bleachers, or anywhere he can be with the fans.
  13. And it appears that no one is safe. Not even players wives. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=26052
  14. I wore my Cubs hat to work today. While I was walking from my office next to the board of trade to union station, I had someone throw two plastic bottles at me, and one guy literally jump in my face and start yelling. Add that to my bar incident from two nights ago, and it paints an interesting picture. Like I said, if you don't live IN THE CITY during this, you don't understand. Living here a few years ago doesn't count, nor does simply living in the midwest. The White Sox weren't in the World Series a few years ago, and the majority of their fan base is located within the city and the surrounding south suburbs. Let me get one thing straight. I don't hate the White Sox. Normally, I could care less if they won or lost. But when it's to the point where things are being thrown at me when I'm walking down the street, I'm going to root against them. It'd be different if it were just a few bad apples, but until you're in the city, you have no idea how many Cub haters are out wondering the streets looking for someone to mess with.
  15. I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but after living in the heart of Chicago during this whole postseason, and seeing the abuse (both physical and verbal) and overall low class treatment being handed out by the large Cub- hating section of Sox fans, I would probably root for the Cardinals if they had made the world series.
  16. After viewing it on a large HD television, it clearly hit the bat, no matter what angle they show.
  17. Exactly. The fans are getting worse though. I wore my Cubs hat out last night (I live on the northside, and I ALWAYS wear my Cubs hat), and I was having things thrown at me in the bar by a group of Sox fans. One of them even started harrassing the girl I was with calling her a "working girl" (i cleaned it up quite a bit... family site) because she was with a Cubs fan. The bouncer politely escorted them outside, where they were seen harrassing an older man wearing a Red Sox hat. If the Sox manage to win the world series, I'm moving. Many of the fans won't care that their team won the world series, they care more that it gives them a reason to mock Cubs fans. And last night was not an isolated incident by a few fans. It's spreading throughout the city.
  18. Yep, anyone that grew up in Chicago knows that you can't have it both ways. You're either a Cubs fan or a Sox fan... or you just don't follow baseball and are along for the postseason party. There is no such thing as a "Chicago fan" when it comes to baseball.
  19. Mayor Daley must've paid a fortune to the umps this post season, cause this is getting pretty ridiculous.
  20. So he's Chicago's version of Ben Affleck and Boston.
  21. Local H is from Zion. Chevelle is from Grayslake. Billy Corgan's mother lives a few blocks from Wrigley (or at least she did). Eddie Vedder's mother lives in Evanston. I forgot the website, but there was a very good site that listed every celebrity from Chicago, and as much background info that could be found (high schools, etc). I'll try to find it again and post it. Oh, and back on topic, I threw a nacho at the tv when I saw Bernie Mac in a Sox hat. "Root, root, root for the champions" my a$$. I wonder if he still has that Cubs jacket. Anyone from Chicago knows that if you're a fan, you're a fan of one team. There is no such thing as a "Chicago fan". I won't root for the White Sox, and if the situation was reversed, I wouldn't expect any Sox fans to root for the Cubs. That's just the reality you learn growing up in the city. Bernie Mac has become a bi-Sox-ual.
  22. Not as long as the Astros are still in the race. If the Sox are playing the Cards, I'll root for the Sox, but won't watch the series. If they are playing the 'Stros, I'm going to root for Biggio and Bagwell to finally get a ring. I work in an office full of Sox fans. I never say anything bad about the Sox around them, even when the Cubs beat them. But these guys have been more focused on ripping Cubs fans lately than they are on the World Series. I couldn't live with a full year of that, my headphones just aren't loud enough.
  23. I honestly don't think Clemens has a prayer anymore. From all the sports talk I've heard, and articles I've read, he blew it once his ERA came back down to earth. Plus, many people have actually said that Willis could get a lot of votes simply because he's 23 and Carp is 30. I don't know if I buy that, but you never know what will happen.
  24. The only thing the Sox have going for them playoff wise is that the Red Sox and Yankees are going to beat each other up, so the wildcard is within reach. It's sad that I don't even consider the Sox to be the front runner in the wild card race... and they are still leading the central. Yeah, the tv ratings is more of people who are watching the historical collapse than those that actually tune in to watch the Sox. At the bar last night every tv had on either the Sox game or the Indians game. And people were laughing the whole time. I really don't hate the Sox, but this collapse sure is fun to watch. I think it'd be fun no matter who it was. (well, except the Cubs of course. But they'd actually have to be good to be able to collapse)
  25. He really is coming on strong. It's looking like the Marlins will finish out of the playoffs - and unfortunately, that may hurt him. I think you have to give him consideration - to be fair. Unrelated to this discussion - did you happen to notice he batted seventh last night? He went one for four. I think he's going to get more than just consideration. He's right on Carp's heels in many of the major categories. Plus, he's fighting for a playoff spot which should give him two more tough starts. Carp's already in, so I can see LaRussa giving him a lot of rest coming up.
