  1. I pray that this all holds up, and this whole "trade Mark Prior" saga ends. Good news though, very good news.
  2. It might just be me, but "great clubhouse guys" don't demand a trade and publically knock the team they play for.
  3. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned any of this (this thread is too long for me to sift through right now), but I don't see any way that this Tejada deal will be good for the Cubs if we have to give up Mark Prior. First of all, if Hendry wanted a quality shortstop, he should've overpaid for Furcal in the first place. If we have to give up Prior, it's costing us WAY more than just giving Furcal an extra mil or two. So Hendry's inability to sign a shortstop could possibly ruin our rotation, and turn one of the most promising pitchers I've ever seen over to the best pitching coach I've ever seen. Second, Tejada is not Barry Bonds. Tejada is not Albert Pujols. The fact is, he's an above average shortstop that has been linked to steroids, has been linked to lying about his real age, and can't pitch like Prior can. Third, Bedard is two or three years OLDER than Prior is. He's 28 and from what I've seen is still in his development stage that he might never get out of. Four, Hendry has said all along that this team is built on pitching... and now he wants to give away a guy that has become one of the faces of the organization? Give me a break. Just my two cents. Now I need to head out of here.
  4. Didn't Manny just come out and say that he isn't leaving Boston this year? If he did, count Floyd out. And I'm still praying that Hendry doesn't pull this Prior/ Tejada deal. I'd give anything to keep Mark Prior on the Cubs.
  5. I'd be all for Tejada joining the Cubs... as long as it doesn't take Prior or Zambrano to get him here.
  6. As mentioned, I think the only thing you can use to question his durability is the injury that caused him to miss time at the beginning of 2004. Considering that it hasn't flared up again, I don't view it as something that will be a recurring problem. The Giles collision and the line drive could have happened to anyone. I can't question his durability for missing time when a baserunner ran into him at full speed and when a line drive hit him squarely on the elbow. To be honest, I think it's a testament to his durability that he was able to come back from the line drive as quickly as he did. =D>
  7. ... and that is why college sports will always be better than professional sports (except baseball). Just my opinion. What an amazing game.
  8. I don't know too much about contracts or arbitration, but if I understand correctly, this might be a brilliant move by Mark Prior. This could lead a team to negotiate a new contract with him to avoid arbitration. And if he didn't want to be traded, he could ask for a NT clause in any deal he might get. Do I have this right? Is any of this legal? Like I said, I know nothing about that stuff. So if I'm completely wrong and look like an idiot, well, at least you know why.
  9. I think we finally know why Hendry wants to move him to Baltimore.
  10. Well he's going to make more money next year now I'd assume. I just pray it's the Cubs that give it to him.
  11. Clutch is how you react in pressure situations. I believe that some guys react better in high pressure situations than others. And some guys fall flat on their face when faced with pressure. It's been a part of every team I've ever been on. There is no metric to figure out how clutch someone is.
  12. I can live with that as long as it keeps Prior pitching for the Cubs.
  13. Yeah, after his 4th or 5th Cy Young, he'll come back to win his 350th game here... and I'll die a little inside
  14. PLEASE PLEASE PLZ. do this! DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!! Do it....C'mon... DO it. Doit. Please don't let another Greg Maddux get away from us...
  15. No, but I wish Notre Dame would go away.
  16. Not sure if anyone mentioned it because I just glanced over this topic, but did anyone mention Brant Brown?
  17. That would be the best Christmas present I've gotten in a while, but I'm positive it'd have to involve a third team for that to happen. Hendry pulled off a miracle on the Nomar deal when I didn't want to trade Clement. Hopefully he can pull off a similar deal with a similar type of player (all star ss).
  18. I just want to know at what point Pie became untouchable, and Prior became expendable. Logic seems kind of flawed to me. Or maybe Hendry really does want fans to blow up his car and burn down his office. Cause that's about where I'm at right now. (Kidding!.... or am i?)
  19. You give Prior 1 or 2 seasons with him, and you can have him fitted for his bust in the Hall of Fame. I couldn't live with seeing another Cubs pitcher go on to have a hall of fame career with another team. Hell, it's hard enough to watch Dontrelle turn into one of the best in the league. I'm praying this was just all talk and there is no real merit to it. But Hendry doesn't seem too eager to shoot down any rumors.
  20. I've been thinking about this as well. There's always speculation that Prior will leave as Free Agent after the 2008 season and I can't imagine hearing his name floating around in trade rumors will help convince him to stay. Hopefully he handles it like a professional like everything he always has. It is something every athlete has to hear. I imagine they are coached to deal with this type of stuff during player development. I'm sure he's not happy about it (If he indeed wants to stay a Cub), but Prior seems intelligent enough to realize that it's out of his hands. All he can do is hope for the best.
  21. I look at it this way: The two teams that were in the World Series this year had sub par offenses. Their pitching was amazing. Give me Prior any day of the week. I'd rather win a game 2-1 than lose a game 6-5.
  22. Amen. I couldn't disagree with you more. Tejada's an above average hitter, but how many above average hitters are on teams with average pitching, and are consistently sitting in the back of the pack. Sure we have Lee and Ramirez, but I'd take the pitching over Tejada right now. Ramirez is an injury risk, and Lee has had one amazing season. As much flack as I might take for this, we still must consider the possibility that last year was a fluke. (I hope to God it wasn't). Now look at the White Sox. They won the World Series with their pitching. Their offense was alright, but not that great. Zambrano is all of 23/24 years old (I think just 23). He's already proven he's a top tier starter, and he's the only guy we can count on besides Maddux to hit the mound every 5th game.
  23. Rotoworld has it too. Even if he did say it, I really don't think he's going to be traded this year.
  24. Seattle has made Ichiro untouchable. He isn't going anywhere. ditto with pie as far as the cubs are concerned. Hendry also said he wasn't going to offer any five year contracts. So I'd say nothing is set in stone. And isn't the general GM motto "No one is untouchable if the right offer comes along"? Either way, does anyone else feel like we're this close to having an even worse outfield than we had last year?
