  1. Mariotti creates controversy just to create controversy. He bashes every Chicago team (even the White Sox who are in first place). He blows everything Dusty and Ozzie say WAY out of proportion. And he constantly contradicts himself. He'll write a column saying why a team is losing, and what they should do to win. And when the team does what he says, and they still lose, he criticizes their choice. (even when he suggested it to begin with) He's classless, and Chicago hates him for the most part. But he's like Howard Stern. Those who like him read his stuff to see what he'll say next. Those who hate him read his stuff to see what he'll say next. And as long as he's selling papers, he'll have a job.
  2. That was one of the funniest moments I've seen in baseball. Prior probably would've been killed by Barry if he charged the mound, but he stood his ground anyway.
  3. I don't think Bonds cares about his value or declining skills. If he wants to DH next year, I don't think you'll find a team in the AL that wouldn't want him. Deminished skills or not. I think he just wants to get back onto the field. If he doesn't come back now, he'll have to wait 6 more months. That's 6 more months that can be added on to the total of him not facing live pitching. He's not going to be the Bonds of last season. He knows that, and I'm sure most of the baseball world knows that. But even a bad Bonds will help out the team. And what happens if by some chance he comes back and manages to lead them to a miracle playoff birth? Has anyone ever gotten the MVP for less than a month of work? (For the record, I'm just joking about the MVP.)
  4. I can't stand when people put money ahead of people's lives and homes. New Orleans was home to many many people. You HAVE to rebuild it. I hope Hastert's home burns down, so people can say, "nope, we shouldn't rebuild it."
  5. They rebuilt Chicago didn't they? Sure, it would cost a fortune to do so now a days, but you can't just let a city like New Orleans be wiped off the map like that. It would be a dishonor to those that have lost their life not to rebuild and try to go on.
  6. Mentally, or physically? Because somehow I think his brain is far behind in its development.
  7. Cy Young also leads the majors in career losses. Plus, he had 19 seasons where he lost over 10 games, including 12 where he lost 15 or more, and 3 where he lost 20 or more. So what's your point? I know guys pitched a lot more back then, but many of his seasons were not very stellar. The award isn't based off of his stats. It's based off of the best pitcher in baseball. They just named the award after him as an honor.
  8. If Dusty were to take the blame for this team not succeeding, he'd basically have to admit he's wrong. And I honestly believe Dusty doesn't think he's done anything wrong since he's been here.
  9. :?: That area has taken off. (not just because of Wrigley either) It is one of the most popular spots in the city for night life, restaurants, etc. Moving Wrigley would just open up more room for new bars and restaurants. I'm almost positive they can't put it on the lakeshore. There is a city law that states no more buildings will be put on the east side of lake shore drive. It's the original Daley's plan to preserve the lakefront. And moving the team to the suburbs would break every Chicagoins heart. In my opinion, you give it landmark status like Fenway is trying to get. And then you just fix what's broken. You don't replace it.
  10. [-X Hmm, can you get busted for posting under the influence?
  11. I'd just inform him that people over here would probably take him more seriously. And he wouldn't have to sort through all the troll posts since our moderators are quite good at keeping this board clean and respectable.
  12. I think if someone told him about our more distinguished members that are in the business (Bruce Miles, etc), then maybe Len would consider posting here, or at least doing an interview for the site. I think it'd be great to have him on the boards, even if it was just for a chat session or something.
  13. Yeah, I usually like to enjoy my beer too. But this was one of the last nights of college, so it was basically, "get as drunk as you can as fast as you can". The people that weren't doing the century club were taking shots of hard liquor all night. After I puked, a couple of us went outside to have a home run derby in the park across the street. Only problem was, it was 11 at night, and the lights were off in the park. Thank God they were tennis balls, because the pitcher couldn't see the batter.
  14. Either way, that'll be one hell of a game to watch. I missed the last one, and that turned out to be a battle. This one should be even better.
  15. If they trade Barrett, I'm going to be very angry. That is unless they can get someone with his or Varitek's production at the catcher position. And I'm sorry, but Mike Piazza is over the hill, so that player doesn't exist anymore.
  16. Which actually means a 2 man bench, since you never pinch hit your 2nd catcher and leave yourself without a backup. Kasper and Brenley have actually pointed this short bench out on several occasions Eh, Zambrano could always pinch hit. Actually, I'd prefer if Zambrano pinch hit instead of those guys.
  17. I noticed this too. That might be one reason why the Cards have the best record in baseball, and Dusty was using guys as loogeys that aren't really loogeys.
  18. Yeah, I don't consider myself a chugger either. I'm more of a power sipper. But once you get to about 40 shots, they start going down like water. And that's when things got ugly. Don't know why we busted out the video camera for that night, but it's definitely entertaining to watch. 8 or 9 of us starting out just wanting to do the century club on one of our last nights of college. When 6 guys got to 100, we decided to see who could last the longest. Only me and another guy made it past 120. He was 6'4", rougly 240 pounds. I'm 5'10", roughly 155 pounds. I got to 142, he made it to 150 and then gave up because he didn't want to keep going by himself. He was in the bathroom five minutes later, and he didn't come out until the next morning.
  19. Last year I did 142 shots of beer in 142 minutes before I threw up (17.75 cans of beer in 2 hours 22 minutes - we used real 1.5 ounce shotglasses, not the smaller cheap ones.) The only reason I threw up was because there was no where else for the beer to go. I was completely full. And later, I was almost completely blind. The century club is 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes. Power hour is 60 shots. College kids have been doing it for years. It's a good cheap way to get hammered. The milk thing has been around for a long time. It's almost a sure thing bet for everyone NOT to be able to do it. Drinking it in an hour is not a problem, but keeping it down is. Your body cannot process the lactose fast enough, so it expells it from your body. Doesn't matter how big you are, or how tough you think you are. I've seen tons of people try it, and not one has succeeded yet. That's why I posted that I'd bet Mike Aller that he couldn't do it. I could use the money. :D
  20. Dusty is slowly becoming the Mike Tyson of baseball. Every interview he does is a joke. At least Tyson's quotes are humorous though. Dusty's are just plain sad. Burn Dusty burn!
  21. Alright, seriously, with the Cubs 7.5 games back on August 25th, and Aramis and Nomar likely hitting the DL, it's time to shut down Kerry Wood and get the surgery done. The Cubs need to be realistic enough to know that they aren't going to pass 6 teams in the wild card standings, and that it's not doing Kerry any good to be out there throwing as hard as he can for one inning every three games. Sometimes you just have to learn to realize when a season is over, and start making plans for next year.
  22. If Penny is that upset about it, I wouldn't be surprised if he paid the kids salary for those 6 games. Or at least gives him the $500 he would've won from the bet. It only seems fair, you get a guy suspended when you're both goofing off, you cover for the other guy.
  23. I'll bet you $200 that you can't. This is ridiculous. He got a longer suspension for drinking milk than Farnsworth got for tackling Jeremy Affeldt.
  24. Score just reported a moderate to severe quadricep strain. There's a good chance both Aramis and Nomar could hit the DL on the same day. They're going to evaluate him today and make a decision I guess.
  25. Yeah, they consider it litering the field. I have friends who were ushers there. They said most of the time, they'd let it go. But if someone was being obnoxious and they threw a ball back, he was gone. They said it was the same as throwing a cup onto the field. They'd get tossed for that, so a ball is the same thing.
