  1. Yeah it's not like going into 2004, when we had 4 very good, healthy, young starting pitchers, a solid lineup and a good closer. We could be certain of success that year. If you had the option of having the 2004 team back at the 2004 talent level, would you turn it down?
  2. As if we've never gone into a season with a bunch of "ifs" before. I don't appreciate the eyeroll. Yes, we've gone into seasons with "ifs" before, but I think we're all setting ourselves up for a massive dissapointment. Soriano alone won't fix the lineup. We're status quo with Ramirez (but that's a good thing), and we added Lilly and Cotts to the pitching staff. Wowie. But looking at all these posts.... "IF Prior is healthy" and "IF Hill can pitch like he did in the 2nd half" and "IF Wood's shoulder can hold up" and "IF we can do better than Izturis and SS"... just far too many unknowns to be absolutely certain of any type of success this year.
  3. This year worries me. There are too many "ifs" with it.
  4. My thoughts exactly. It has the potential. Lilly in the 4 spot= very good. At #2=Blah. But $10 million for a 4 starter? Yikes.
  5. That trade would both make sense AND kick ass. Which is why it won't happen.
  6. Maybe the Best guy doesn't want to come here? I can dig up quotes where Schmidt has stated that he has interest in St. Louis and Chicago. When I hear that Schmidt turned down 2 years/36m, then I'll believe he just didn't want to be here. Lilly and Meche are lucky to be 8m a year pitchers. The offers for those guys are getting closer to 11m. Instead of giving these guys 3m, add it on to Schmidt's deal and see if he still wants to pitch on the West Coast. If I don't hear that Hendry offered 18m, I'll be convinced he didn't do enough to get him. If St. Louis gets him for between 15m-18m, I'll guarantee you I'll be thoroughly pissed. Isn't it also true that he can be saying he'd go to the cubs or the cardinals to merely help drive up his price? So he really has no intent of coming here but he wants to get as much money as possible out of the Dodgers, Giants, and Mariners. That could be true. But I'd like to hear just one confirmed report that we made an offer to Schmidt. Just one. So far we haven't yet. And I don't consider anything Jason Whitlock says a "confirmed report".
  7. I agree. I clicked on this thread because I was thinking it had something to do with my favorite player of all time.
  8. Good luck to him. I wish him all the best.
  9. If he does, keep him the hell out of the NL Central. Sexson is Cub Killer numero uno.
  10. And yet we haven't made an offer to Schmidt, but Hendry couldn't sign Lilly fast enough. *sigh*
  11. Feh. Also, IBL. Thankfully, not IBS. That can be painful and gross.
  12. I don't think Bonds cares if his teammates like him. Yeah but wouldnt Z and Prior care if he's coming? >_> What if we got both Bonds and Sosa. Sammy's done. He can't hit anymore.
  13. 1) It's not a 100 percent guarantee Alou catches that ball. 2) If Gonzo turns the DP, we go into the 9th up 3-1 and could have brought in JoBo to shut the Marlins down. 3) Dusty is a fool. Game 6 causes me much pain, so this will be my only post in this thread.
  14. He was paid for the play in the minors, correct? So how is he eligible to play college football?
  15. We haven't offered a contract to Schmidt, yet Hendry is falling all over himself to get Meche? I really want to kick Jim in the head.
  16. There are many better uses of a roster spot than Randall Simon. There are worse ones as well.
  17. Gammons sees Schmidt to Seattle or Cubs as a "real possibility." He didn't say too much other than that.
  18. Nooo. Lugo Bad for going to Red Sox. Were we ever serious contenders for Lugo or was that all just rumor?
  19. I wish I were reading the Cubs on that list of involved team... Do you think Jim will slide in there and make an offer? I doubt it. MAYBE, and I do mean MAYBE he could swing it in a 3 or 4-team deal, but straight up I don't think we have what it takes to get him.
  20. 3141 hits = HOF in any era. .388 career OBP .338 career BA Is there really any reason he shouldn't get in? let's not forget his EIGHT batting titles, either. That too. Tony Gwynn is about as much of a guarantee to get into the HOF as there ever was. There's no reason he shouldn't be unanimously selected on the HOF ballot.
