  1. Why were we so quick to sign DeRosa? Why not hang back a bit and wait on Durham? Was the market for DeRosa so great that we had to sign him right now?
  2. I believe A-Rod when he says he doesn't want to be traded. Everything I know of him tells me he's a competitor and wants to prove to the Yankees and their fans that he belongs there.
  3. Pass. If Zito actually gets 7/105 I shudder to think what Carlos Zambrano will get. Which is why he should be signed to an extention immediately. He has one more good year and he may price himself out of range. He won't be cheap, but he'll be cheaper if you do it now as opposed to next offseason. Can you imagine the money people would throw at him if he'd hit the open market?
  4. I have a feeling that will come down quite a bit.
  5. ESPNews reported it as $42 million as well.
  6. if they are going to move theriot to ss i would like to see them go after catalanotto to play 2b (unless they think epat is ready to start of course). I'd be all about Catalanotto. Sign me up!
  7. as were the cards this year. it shouldnt take too much more to win the central in 2007. Just land a couple really good FA or trades and we will be BETTER. Is it really that much of a goal to aim to be better than a 96-loss team?
  8. I could rant for a very, very long time about corporate naming, but I won't. Seriously. CitiField? Gag me.
  9. 5/$73 i think. with a 6th year team option i think? ESPN said that was a mutual option.
  10. Great. Now we get to hear ESPN perform verbal fellatio on him for an entire week.
  11. Kudos to you, Aramis. You are now my new favorite Cub, hereby replacing.... nobody. I'd have been the first rat off this sinking ship, myself.
  12. It's just a matter of time.
  13. I feel sick, guys. Really sick. If Aram doesn't get re-signed I'm giving up on 2007. We have NO chance without him, unless by some miracle we trade for A-Rod.
  14. Thanks for the memories, Aram. Have fun wherever you're going. Maybe you can actually play for a winner.
  15. Power hitters seem to die in Detroit. It's a pitchers paradise. The Tigers should be acquiring speedy guys with power in the gaps. Babe Ruth himself would have trouble hitting a lot of homers in that park.
  16. This is why my wife says I have no sense of taste. I thought they looked ok. In fact when I play MVP 05 those are the uniforms I choose.
  17. Funny thing I always thought it was a glove never noticed the MB, but then again I nver really looked closely at it. I think we could use a uniform change, too. Keep the pinstripes of course and the road greys but change the alternate home jersey. Get rid of the walking cub logo its lame. Go back to the dark navy shirts with the "C" and the bear with the bat or the brown pinstripe that they have worn in the past. Yes! I hate hate hate the blue alternate jersey that the players seem so fond of. I never understood what the big deal was about those. I guess I'm one of the few who likes them.
  18. Isn't that bad? It would be one of the best offensive OFs in baseball assuming Sheffield's production doesn't drop off the face of the earth and those guys don't get injured anymore than their average. Can Soriano play RF? Why not put him at 2nd? He'd probably be happier there. Second base is a harder hole to fill than the OF. Keep Murton in left, move Soriano to 2nd, and get another bat for the OF (Lee?). good idea, let's sign every top free agent Ok, smartasses aside..... We can afford it. It probably won't happen, seeing as this is the Cubs, and Jim Hendry is in charge, but it's fun to talk about. Besides, say Pie has a phenomenal spring and Murton is hitting. Then you have a logjam in the OF with Pie, Murt, Drew, Jones, and Soriano. If you move Soriano to 2nd, you can throw Pie in there and ditch Jones or trade Murton for pitching. i was just giving you a hard time. how expensive would soriano, drew, lee AND ramirez be? i honestly don't know. sign those four, and maybe we'll just take our chances pitching-wise. Soriano, Drew, Ramirez, and maybe we could take a chance on a lesser FA or pull off a trade? What about Frank Catalonatto?

  21. Nomar 2004 81 games played 2005 62 2006 122 Drew 2004 145 2005 72 2006 146 And like was mentioned, Drew's injury in '05 was a broken bone in his hand, that doesn't exactly lend itself to future problems. Compare that to Nomar, who ripped his groin away from the bone. You and your damn stats.... But, this is the Cubs. He'll come here, play five games, then simultaneously break both his tibias and fibias, tear both ACL's, MCL's and Patellar tendons, and dislocate both ankles dving in the outfield.
  22. And people have concerns about Nomar being an injury risk. Nomar is friggin Lou Gehrig compared to JD Drew.
  23. I miss him in the booth. I wish he was back.
