  1. Yeah, we can bat him behind A-Rod on the days that Schmidt pitches.
  2. Wasn't McCarver openly rooting for the Yankees in the '04 ALCS? Whichever Red Sox batter hit the homer that hit the foul pole in Game 7 and it made a very audible "CLANG", he said something along the lines of "that's the worst sound I've ever heard."
  3. Conventional wisdom tells me the Mets are screwed.
  4. along with God hating you. Apparently God loves me and has chosen to spare me the pain of watching the Cardinals win the pennant by sending his second flood If God loved you so much he wouldn't have made you a Cub fan.
  5. Half a depleted farm system for one of the two best shortstops...ever. Where do I sign? I use "half the farm" as a blanket term. I'm just afraid we'll trade some of the young Major League talent for him as well and grossly overpay.
  6. Say the rumors are true and the Yankees are looking to deal and they know the Cubs will be "agressively pursuing" A-Rod. Doesn't that mean Steinbrenner and Cashman will be dealing from a position of strength knowing that we're desperate to make some big-time moves and win, and therefore drive up his price? I just hope Hendry and the Trib don't panic and trade half the farm for him just to say "Look! We got A-Rod!"
  7. Dusty will find a GM job and then offer Jose Macias a 6/30 contract, trade 3 top prospects for Neifi, and make Freddy Bynum his cleanup hitter.
  8. One of Hendry's few strong points is that he can make a good 3 or 4 team deal.
  9. Agreed. Seems like he always crushes us, especially at Wrigley. Might be my imagination, but I would have liked to see him sign outside the NLC. Maybe Hendry could throw a token bid his way in order to drive the Astros price up?
  10. I think the Mets, if they win, would give the Tigers a go. Tigers in 6.
  11. See, I don't understand this line of thinking. WHO CARES if a WC makes/wins the World Series? They were obviously a good team to begin with, and if the other teams were truly better, they'd prove it. Second place teams win championships in the NFL, NBA, and NHL. Why is it such a travesty when it happens in baseball?
  12. Take away a home game? What? What's the point of putting them at a disadvantage? My guess is that they want winning the division to mean more so they want to put the WC at a disadvantage. Like in the NFL, the wildcards have to play one more game than the top division winners. In baseball, the wildcard has no real disadvantage. I'm not necessarily for it, but it's not a bad idea either. I think the best thing they could do is have the WC winner play the team with the best record period, whether its from the same division or not.
  13. I'll hold off judgement on Lou until about midseason or so. I'm cautiously optimistic. The one thing I am encouraged by, and something that I've been clamoring for for quite a long time is that Lou is a guy who will kick a guy in the butt if needed, not coddle them like Dusty did. If he does it too much it'll blow up in his face, but if he holds guys accountable (gasp! a foriegn concept) and lights a fire under some guys, I think it would do us a world of good.
  14. Let's just say this isn't the first time a plane has overrun the runway at Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena. It's one of the least safe airports in the country, and they can't expand it because the folks who live nearby whine too much about it. Good thing our SS for next year is safe and sound. :) Keep dreaming.
  15. Sounds like Piniella is probably going to land here. Negotiations start Monday. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2625334
  16. The rotation is too inconsistent there. Z is the only given. You'd need Zito or Schmidt or something in there to solidify that.
  17. Looks like Joe Morgan isn't the dumbest one on ESPN anymore.
  18. A breakout year in a contract year should always set of red flags.
