  1. I wonder if the low dollar figure per year is because Piniella has some sort of out clause that allows him to go to the Yankees. I hope it's not the case. I'm indifferent to Piniella's hiring. I hope Henrdy surrounds him with enough talent that Piniella's managerial flaws are hidden. Time to get some good players.
  2. I'd be very, very surprised if the Cubs gave Piniella any sort of "out" that allowed him to take a job managing the Yankees. If he's committed to win here, it'll definitely be because he's committed to staying here. What kind of "win now" mentality could you get out of a guy who would always be looking to get out?
  3. With the Yankees out, the World Series just gained another viewer. Now we just have to put up with all those "What's wrong with the Yankees?" and "How to fix the Yankees" stories.
  4. John McDonough is certainly talking the talk. But who's the last guy to come into the organization and say, "Our goal is to win championships." I'm happy about the changes, but I'll hold off on the optimism until I start seeing some results.
  5. Bears looked pretty good again today. Although this business of giving up a touchdown has got to be addressed.
  6. It's really annoying how much press that horse's patoot gets. I can think of at least a half-dozen receivers I'd rather have than TO.
  7. It felt GREAT to finally be able to watch a favorite team of mine have a pretty good performance on the field. I almost forgot how to cheer!
  8. Pretty lengthy interview in Sunday's Chicago Tribune: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060909brenly,1,1616800.story?coll=cs-home-headlines He's saying a lot of the right things, but I'm still not completely sold. Although he can't be any worse than Dusty Baker. Your basic kitchen appliance can't be any worse than Baker.
  9. I'll bet Glendon Rusch is really bummed Neifi is gone. Now he moves up to the number one Whipping Boy spot on the Cubs 40 man roster.
  10. If you can give me a good reason why this should be a subject of discussion, then by all means, let's have at it. Wait, tell me why we're skipping a spot in the rotation again?
  11. I think this may very well be the most irrelevant thread in the history of Northsidebaseball.com. Worst sports organization ever? Who cares?
  12. i agree with you..i will tell you why.... cause the Cubs are STUPID. And you know the CUbs have not asked about Tejada.... how?
  13. I think he started brushing up on his English ever since he needed an interpreter to speak to the congressional committee on steroids.
  14. I wouldn't trade ARam either. Unless you're getting ARod in return. Then you do it before the Yanks come to their senses.
  15. It saddens me every time I check out NSBB. But that's the masochistic part of being a Cubs fan. I just keep coming back here for more.
  16. Depends on what Hendry does before the trade deadline. If he jettisons a bunch of players and gets talented, ML ready youngsters in the process (fat chance, I know), then can Dusty July 31st. But if there aren't any significant roster changes, it really wouldn't matter to me whether he's fired or not, because there'd really be no point to the remaining two months of the season. Just so long as he's on the first plane out of town October 2nd.
  17. Donald Trump said the same thing to Mike North on Friday morning. Here was the really funny part; he said the Cubs have a good management team in place. But it's just that the Cubs have had a run of bad luck. Yeah, that explains the last 98 years. Just a really, really, really, really, really, really long stretch of bad luck.
  18. Guess who also has a bad BA and ranks last in runs? To use a pretty worn-out phrase, firing Gene Clines now would be like rearranging the deck chairs of the Titanic.
  19. I don't think the Cubs are a 100 loss team. But it's no playoff contender, either. There's enough talent around that the club doesn't need to be blown up. But some pretty drastic changes are in order. By the way, from your topic title, you make it sound like it's Bruce Miles' opinion that the Cubs don't need to be blown up. Actually, he's quoting Hendry.
  20. Actually the Cubs having no All Stars would be appropriate, but the rules are the rules, they had to pick someone out of this mess. Head groundskeeper at Wrigley is having a heck of a year!
  21. Ever read a quote and think to yourself, "Boy is this going to get the posters at NSBB all riled up!" Scott Williamson apparently had this to say on the Score the other day: "They have their guys they like for certain reasons,'' Williamson told the Score. "I don't know why. They go to them, go to them, go to them. It's good to be that guy. If you mess up, you get back out there. But the bad part is if you're not one of their boys and he doesn't have confidence in you, then you wear it. "For me and some other people, we don't get opportunities to get in there and stay fresh and keep it going. It's been hard. If you are just one of the players on the outside, it's hard because you feel like you're under a microscope and walking on eggshells. If you have a bad outing, you don't feel like you're going to get back in there for a while. They've got a Bob Howry, so there's no need for me. Hopefully I do get traded. "I feel terrible for Murton. I feel a lot of stuff is not going the right way with him. This kid is going to be a superstar, a franchise player. He's a kid with a great work ethic. They didn't let him play and get his at-bats and fight through struggles.'' He later backed off these statements. Here's the whole story in today's Sun-Times: http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cub03.html
  22. I really didn't like the plate appearance he had in the fifth (I think it was the fifth). He struck out, taking three big swings during the at-bat. Each time he was hacking away and putting a lot of torque on his back. Not necessary.
  23. Sell high. His value may never be higher than right now. He's hitting a little better now, too. Sell high, though you won't get much with his impending free agency. DFA'd by August 1 if there are no takers. Nope. I'd keep him. A goner. Wish it was sooner rather than later. Trade him for anything. ANYTHING! Give the poor guy a shot with a contender. Please. Can't do any worse.
  24. Morrissey nailed it. On a side note... Morrissey shows you can have a very strong and very negative view of a local sports team without being so inflammatory. Unlike his counterpart at the Sun-Times who shall remain nameless.
  25. And as long as people are wearing paper bags, they should sit silently with their arms crossed. They should only get up to use the bathrooms. And they shouldn't buy any concessions: no food, no drinks--even beer (did I just say that?), or souvenirs. Stand for the national anthem and the seventh inning stretch, but don't sing Take Me Out To The Ball Game. When you leave, put your paper bag on the seat back.
