  1. Derrek Lee seems to be playing a lot like last year just before his daughter was diagnosed with the eye disease. He just doesn't look right at the plate.
  2. I was so excited for Hank Aaron I had a hard time getting to sleep the night he surpassed the Babe. I could care less that Barry Balco homered last night.
  3. Ohman is under contract for next season at $1.6 million. More Hendry nonsense. He's had some success, so I wouldn't go so far as to DFA him. But I also wouldn't pay him $1.6 million for a season, wither.
  4. Last night Pat Hughes talked about this possibility. He said a pitcher might get called up for a spot start. I wouldn't be surprised if Gallagher got a start against Colorado. Of course, this move would have made sense a little sooner with the Cubs near the tail end of a stretch of 20 games in 20 days. Ohman's suckiness probably sealed the deal.
  5. Mke that 2-1 since the tirade. Obviously Yost's message didn't make it to the bullpen.
  6. Don't you know anything? 90% of baseball is half mental! Yogi, is that you??? It's not me. But even if it was, it still wouldn't be me.
  7. Don't you know anything? 90% of baseball is half mental!
  8. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/images/fan_forum/y2007/ads/800x600_cws_contreras.jpg Funny that the guy in that poster has an excellent chance of losing 20 games this season. Really, how many guys have lost 14 games in JUST FOUR MONTHS?
  9. Now that the whole "first place" thing has sunk in a little bit, are you as surprised as I at how quickly the Cubs turned their season around? Exactly two months ago, Lou melts down on the way to the Cubs 6th straight loss. They were nine games under .500 and 8 1/2 games (approximately) behind the Brewers. Now they're tied for first. I'm trying to recall a Cubs team in my memory going back to the early 70's that's had such a turnaround. Can't think of a single one. Amazing.
  10. First post for the first place Cubs! (even if it is by just percentage points!)
  11. That's what I'm thinking, too. They won the battle. But it'll be a blow to the war effort.
  12. Maybe he pees on his feet, too. Maybe it's the beer. Maybe it's because I'm tired. Or maybe that really was funny! LOL :D
  13. Relax, it's not Edmonds. Not enough eye shadow.
  14. I just saw Damina Miller's line of .264/3/18 and a pang of jealousy shot through me.
  15. Like you all, I'm hoping for a Mets win, too. In the 20th inning.
  16. I haven't really been paying much attention, largely because I don't want to get my hopes up and then be crushed when he suffers another setback, but is that velocity pretty consistent with where he's been the past couple weeks? I think Kerry Wood could probably throw 30-35 pitches if necessary. I also think if that happened we wouldn't see him pitch again for a week.
  17. So anyone in Cincinnati see either Griffey or Dunn get on the Cubs team bus back to Chicago?
  18. I really appreciate Jones' attitude the past couple of months. He hasn't gone to the media to complain about playing time or how he's being treated. And he's made the most of the consistent playing time he's had the past week or so. With that said, if you can trade him for someone even better, do it. Otherwise, keep him.
  19. Sorry, I was too engrossed in the new series, "The Bronx Is Burning" to notice.
  20. I think the Cubs go to 12 pitchers after today's game, so Piniella can get a little mileage out of Marmol and rest him for a few knowing he will have another arm in the pen.
  21. Somebody brought this up in another thread (and I have no idea which one) but under the proposed deal the Cubs would be paying all but the league minimum (or around that figure) while the Marlins would have picked up the rest. But the Cubs would still have to pay another player to take Jones' position on the roster. So essentially the player replacing Jones would have to make the league minimum for the Cubs to not take on any more salary than they would already have by keeping Jones. The player the cubs would most likely add when they remove jacque will most likely make the minimum. Not if the CUbs get Griffey!
  22. Which again begs the question, "Will the Cubs be allowed to DFA Jones?" The proposed trade to the Marlins was as close to DFA-ing Jones as it gets. Would Selig prevent the Cubs from cutting Jones to keep "incurring more debt for the new owner?" Can he?
  23. So does that mean the Cubs would not be allowed to DFA Jones? It would basically be the same thing as trading him, minus the Cubs getting some fringe prospect in return. Because no doubt Jones would be picked up after the ten day layoff and the CUbs still would have to pay him.
  24. For the next 26 hours, Jason Marquis is my hero!
  25. Well, if you're going to end a seven game winning streak, you might as well end it with a resounding thud. Did the Brewers ever go down 1-2-3 today?
