  1. The box score is amazing. Both the 8 and 9 hitters for the Rangers had four hits, 7 RBI and 10 total bases. Every starter had at least two hits and only one failed to score more than once. And I agree... that Wes Littleton was awarded a save is absolutely ridiculous.
  2. OT; Wow! 16 straight losses for the Brewers when Chris Capuano starts. Just two shy of the ML record set back in 1912. Yikes!
  3. About time they called it. Radar looks ugly. A wave of showers and thunderstorms is moving toward Chicago from northeast Wisconsin. Another line is developing just west of that one. WOnder how quickly they could build a dome over Wrigley? It's times like this when a roof really comes in handy.
  4. I believe Andy MacPhail had a hand in the hiring of Dusty Baker and had a rather large say in payroll considerations. But I think he left much of the roster work to Jim Hendry. MacPhail did a lot of work for Major League Baseball (seemed like he was Bud Selig's right-hand man for a while there), leaving him little time to deal with many of the roster moves Hendry pulled off. While Hendry has done a pretty fair job trading, he's made more of his fair share of head-scratching roster moves. I think if we took a look at the rosters over Hendry years, we'd find a lot of players who played for the Cubs, then never wore another major league uniform (Jose Macias and Freddie Bynum come to mind). To me, if you have players that no one else wants when you're done with them, they pretty much had no reason to be on your roster in the first place.
  5. It's not working. Looks like we'll need the commercial-grade image.
  6. Anyone have that "Do not feed the trolls" image? I think it'd come in pretty handy right now.
  7. Derrek Lee seems to be playing a lot like last year just before his daughter was diagnosed with the eye disease. He just doesn't look right at the plate.
  8. I was so excited for Hank Aaron I had a hard time getting to sleep the night he surpassed the Babe. I could care less that Barry Balco homered last night.
  9. Ohman is under contract for next season at $1.6 million. More Hendry nonsense. He's had some success, so I wouldn't go so far as to DFA him. But I also wouldn't pay him $1.6 million for a season, wither.
  10. Last night Pat Hughes talked about this possibility. He said a pitcher might get called up for a spot start. I wouldn't be surprised if Gallagher got a start against Colorado. Of course, this move would have made sense a little sooner with the Cubs near the tail end of a stretch of 20 games in 20 days. Ohman's suckiness probably sealed the deal.
  11. Mke that 2-1 since the tirade. Obviously Yost's message didn't make it to the bullpen.
  12. Don't you know anything? 90% of baseball is half mental! Yogi, is that you??? It's not me. But even if it was, it still wouldn't be me.
  13. Don't you know anything? 90% of baseball is half mental!
  14. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/images/fan_forum/y2007/ads/800x600_cws_contreras.jpg Funny that the guy in that poster has an excellent chance of losing 20 games this season. Really, how many guys have lost 14 games in JUST FOUR MONTHS?
  15. Now that the whole "first place" thing has sunk in a little bit, are you as surprised as I at how quickly the Cubs turned their season around? Exactly two months ago, Lou melts down on the way to the Cubs 6th straight loss. They were nine games under .500 and 8 1/2 games (approximately) behind the Brewers. Now they're tied for first. I'm trying to recall a Cubs team in my memory going back to the early 70's that's had such a turnaround. Can't think of a single one. Amazing.
  16. First post for the first place Cubs! (even if it is by just percentage points!)
  17. That's what I'm thinking, too. They won the battle. But it'll be a blow to the war effort.
  18. Maybe he pees on his feet, too. Maybe it's the beer. Maybe it's because I'm tired. Or maybe that really was funny! LOL :D
  19. Relax, it's not Edmonds. Not enough eye shadow.
  20. I just saw Damina Miller's line of .264/3/18 and a pang of jealousy shot through me.
  21. Like you all, I'm hoping for a Mets win, too. In the 20th inning.
  22. I haven't really been paying much attention, largely because I don't want to get my hopes up and then be crushed when he suffers another setback, but is that velocity pretty consistent with where he's been the past couple weeks? I think Kerry Wood could probably throw 30-35 pitches if necessary. I also think if that happened we wouldn't see him pitch again for a week.
  23. So anyone in Cincinnati see either Griffey or Dunn get on the Cubs team bus back to Chicago?
  24. I really appreciate Jones' attitude the past couple of months. He hasn't gone to the media to complain about playing time or how he's being treated. And he's made the most of the consistent playing time he's had the past week or so. With that said, if you can trade him for someone even better, do it. Otherwise, keep him.
  25. Sorry, I was too engrossed in the new series, "The Bronx Is Burning" to notice.
