  1. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/columnists.nsf/jeffgordon/story/254820590ABB5A26862571710058A538?OpenDocument So if Pujols sneezed and threw his back out, you think he'd still play? In traction probably, right? That's pretty silly. I agree, sneezing is a comical way to hurt oneself, but it's not as if Sosa was the only one to ever hurt his back that way. The thing about backs is they can get hurt doing almost nothing. Sometimes they just seize up, and it's next to impossible to play through that. ANd before people bag on Sammy for being injured his last couple of seasons, they should remember he routinely played 162 games throughout his career, and he was quite durable until he got old.
  2. Yes. Next question. Is TO going to play in Philly again. Yes, Dallas travels there week 5. Next. Will the Cubs ever win another World Series?
  3. Kudos to Jacque. He handled that well. And I'm outraged the lady wasn't arrested.
  4. I would argue it is a pretty medicore starting lineup that is hurting us.
  5. all that proves is that everyone else has been equally or more awful. When relating his current numbers to his own career stats, you have to realize his career--especially the last two years--has been pretty mediocre/bad. So the fact he's improved relative to his own suckiness doesn't mean he isn't bad. That said, I agree that Jones--relative to what we'd hoped he might contribute--hasn't been our biggest problem, and it probably isn't fair that he's received so much of the fans' anger.
  6. Jones has been awful, but the way some of the fans are acting these days is embarrassing to me as a Cubs fan.
  7. I'm not sure if this was sarcasm or truth, but Springer does deserve to be suspended. Does the fact Russ SPringer's heater isn't capable of hurting anyone mitigate the crime any?
  8. There's just no way Koronka's numbers remain that good. That guy's stuff was astounding in its mediocrity.
  9. I'd give up Hill or Williams, but not Gooz. I still think he'll be good.
  10. Despite the fact Ronnie leads the team in BA at .288 ( ), his .310 OBP does not merit a permanent leadoff slot.
  11. There was something cathartic in reading that. Thank you. I agree. Excellent post.
  12. Sadly, that's probably the kind of quality hitting instruction he's already getting from clines/sarge.
  13. Hilarious. don't we already have their #1 next year?
  14. Definitely a mystery to me, too.
  15. He's still the hitting coach for most of the veterans. Clines is the hitting coach for most of the younger players, I believe. Really? I didn't know that. And I'm simultaneously stunned and outraged. And incontinent. Matthews proved his infinitesimal worth already. Why contnue to let him instruct hitters. The Cubs are so bad they're making you urinate on yourself? Really, that's just beyond ridiculous, something has to be done immediately. You're telling me.

  17. I would rather get hit by a speeding train than watch anymore Cubs baseball.
  18. If they fire CLines, they need to fire Matthews, too, or he'll just reassume his role as Hitting Coach. Really, they should fire everyone except Speier, who appears to be an excellent 3rd base coach. I still can't believe Hendry got a contract extension. Staggering.
  19. Problems: 1. Mediocre team to begin with. 2. Several key injuries. 3. Playing horribly, even for them. 4. Idiot manager. It's the Perfect Storm.
  20. There is no way this thread was done with good intentions. Excessively lame, IMO. We're all well-aware Pujols is good; it's not like I was on the fence and needed to see some video evidence. JDE knew that and knew the last thing Cubs fans want to see is a Pujols montage. Yet he/she registers, presumably specifically to post that. Profoundly lame. We've lost 12 of 14, we suck, and this he/she pulls this? For some reason, I'm really irritated. I'm trying to think of a comparable retaliation, but I don't think a montage of Pierre rolling out to the 2B would have quite the same effect on a cards fan. Weak weak weak. Weak. I'm irritated. Go back to cards talk.
  21. yikes. i just saw that bonds K. nasty.
  22. Do we need a more competent manager? Yes, of course. More importantly, though, we need better players, and we need the good players we have to stay healthy. We're not losing right now because of Dusty. We're losing because the team isn't very good.
