  1. Doesn't seem necessary to ridicule BringStoneback because he subscribes to a different baseball philosophy than you.
  2. This isn't about the Wolf. This is about the tire spinning that is this thread. i was just messing around.
  3. I concede that K-Town is wrong. Are you happy?
  4. Big surprise. They're giving away pinkie rings in Texas.
  5. Sorry to bust your bubble, but the BEST way to show your disapproval of the GM (and ownership) is to STOP GOING TO THE GAMES!! I have a bubble? :? Now that I've moved 500 miles away from Chicago, I have stopped going to games. But I don't at all agree that not going to games is the best way to show disapproval. If one person stops going to games, the Tribune Company will not notice because demand for tickets is very high. If 1000 season ticket holders gave up their tickets, they would be snatched up by people on the waiting list. As long as the public is enchanted by Wrigley Field (and I like it a lot, for the record), and as long as ownership puts a team on the field that's not absolutely wretched (Royals, Pirates, etc) the Cubs are going to sell tickets. The best way to effect change is to express displeasure publicly. If we have a GM who makes decisions based on fan reactions, then we have the wrong GM.
  6. When I was twelve I told my dad my favorite Beatles song was "Daydream Believer." He got kind of huffy and said, "That was the Monkees." I responded, "Whatever, same difference." I don't think he ever forgave me for that.
  7. I love Walker. Other than the bullpen acquisitions, I'd say the non-trade of Walker was our most successful offseason move. I think over time you will see a few more fielding problems, though. Removing a gold-glover has to have an effect eventually. He'll have a few, but it will be nowhere near some people were suggesting. Plus, his bat makes up for any defensive shortcomings. Even more so at 1B than 2B, because less range is needed. . I disagree. The reason his O makes up ofr his D at 2nd is that he outproduces the majority of 2bmen around the league. not so at 1B, where his numbers wouldn't suffice over the course of a season. If he were a full time firstbaseman, he'd have to be better w/ the glove to be of real value, a la Mark Grace. That said, I haven't had any problems with him so far at first. I'd stil rather see him play second and move Mabry to first if we're not going to make a deal. (Or move hairston to 2nd and keep walk at first. Basically keep Neifi out as a starter.)
  8. no expectations. Corey had a ton of them, and rightly so given his tools. Jacque's history doesn't warrant expectations, but he was one of our main acquisitions, signed a long deal, and plays a corner outfield spot, so many fans see him as a big bat. I often wonder why Burnitz never got the same treatment. he certainly sucked last year.
  9. I hate him now because of your posts.
  10. The red pistachios freak me out.
  11. The Monkees
  12. No the possibility of that is why Pujols said what it said. It wasn't some bold, classy move on his part. It was the realization he was probably going to face Perez plenty of more times this year and beyond, and he didn't feel like getting earflapped for his temporary punk moment. Yeah right. I must not have read between the lines as thoroughly as you did, but I don't recall seeing anything CLOSE to an apology from Pujols. If anything, he's leaning toward the arrogant side. Trnaslation: please don't plunk me or my teammates. Translation: please don't plunk me or my teammates. And finally, just because the bolded part is embarrassingly lame: http://yourenotagolfer.mlblogs.com/
  13. He IS a classy guy, but he's human. A guy showboated him, and he showboated back. Personally, I don't want a guy who hides under a rock. Like I said, Zambrano was showboating last night, and it wasn't even in retaliation for anything. He was showboating just for the sake of it. You are making no sense. Holding a grudge for a year is less pathetic than gettingp umped about big strikeouts that keep your team in the game? Absolutely ridiculous. Admit Pujols is an ass for doing this or just stop talking. I'm not saying that either one is "pathetic". All I'm saying is that both Zambrano and Pujols are human (although Zambrano tends to be "more human" ). One or two posters here suggested that a ball should be thrown at Pujols' head because of this incident. The possibility of that happening is why Pujols said what he said. It wasn't some bold, classy move on his part. It was the realization he was probably going to face Perez plenty of more times this year and beyond, and he didn't feel like getting earflapped for his temporary punk moment.
  14. we were wrong. everytime Pujols acts like a jackass, it's really someone else's fault. Some people might say that waiting a full year to retaliate, then backtracking later when you get bad press is silly and pathetic, but they'd be wrong. Because Albert Pujols is perfect, and when he does bush league things like throwing his bat 75 yards or "shushing" the crowd at Wrigley after a homerun, it's a justifiable, classy thing to do. It's ALbert's way of defending the integrity of the game for us. So stop criticizing Albert, people. He's perfect. He is God. People should throw away their crosses and buy little Pujols pendants instead.
  15. It's always relevant. yeah, she was at the wives' auction thing in mesa. and she is hot. it's not like she stopped being hot when koronka got traded. :D I dunno...big hair...pleather sequined vests...those jeans with no back pockets...Texas can do a lot of bad things to a woman.
  16. I would too if I got a 2.5 million dollar raise for sucking last year. I would, too, if I were Rubby Perez's brother.
  17. At Wrigley the Cubs haven't done much against the D-Train. He's 2-0 with a 1.01 ERA in his career. Frankly, I don't care if they beat him or their bullpen. Just win. I love the Cubs Huh. I thought we hit Willis pretty well. We do. He's 2-2 with a 4.64 ERA, .299 BAA against the Cubs overall. But he does have nice stats in Wrigley. Your recollection, however, might be even more influenced by the beating he took from us in the 03 playoffs.
  18. I don't think it's possible to be a worse fielder than Erubial Durazo. Don't know where the Choi hate comes from. He's not a great ballplayer, but he can get on base and provide a little pop. Decent with the glove, too. Everyone is under the assumption Tony Clark will come on the cheap, but I'm not sure if AZ will just give him up. He's valuable, cheap, and we're bent over a barrel. Choi doesn't ahve Clark's rep, so he might come easier.
  19. Well, that's not gonna make them go any easier on him. Personally, I think he's right, but he probabky should've kept quiet and tried to play through it.
  20. ..and to think I was hoping we could get a swimming pool or a 20 ft cow in the middle of the outfield. But do you have a train that comes out for home runs? I don't think so.... :P Actually I think the outfield wall made out of toasted ravioli is a great idea! I picture a giant cuckoo clock that a big red cardinal pops out of everytime there's a homer... I think every time there's a homerun, Hard Hittin' Mark Whiten should eat a fan of the opposing team.
  21. If memory serves, Koronka's wife was hot. Not sure if that's relevant.
