  1. Since when? Good question JR. Maybe it happened in that parallel universe where Ozzie is a classy, open-minded genius. According to the figures I have, the Cubs have outsold the world champs by 35,849...in 4 less games. The Cubs average about 4 thousand more per game. stats
  2. Yeah, he's really spoiled playing in that half-empty, historic, vibrant baseball mecca known as the Cell. Speaking of which, have I missed 2006's Mullet Night?
  3. Walker's errors would have been the 2nd and 3rd outs in that inning, so anything after Walker's 2nd error is an unearned run. If the Novoa GS came after that 2nd error, that would explain it. (I can't remember the chronology.)
  4. Trade Barrett? Go for a more defensive minded catcher? With THIS offense? Thanks for playing, Phil.
  5. i don't know which is better...the 'he just got here' line or basically saying that playing theriot will cause the team to lose. the 'he just got here' line makes it seem like he needs a few days off to unpack his suitcase, get his haircut, get used to his new pants, etc. so that's pretty good. but then you have the 'we still have to win' crap, which is so idiotic it's comical because a) the cubs won today (despite theriot's efforts to sabotage the win with his stupid double and triple) and b) the cubs haven't exactly been piling up the wins by playing the non-kids. It's probably because Theriot took a walk and saw 26 pitches in his 5 pa. There's no place for that on dusty's club. I'm surprised Dusty didn't start hyperventalating during Theriot's 9 pitch ab and Murton's 8 pitch ab. you're assuming he was awake
  6. And he's acknowledging that. Despite what some want to say, this isn't the way things usually go with him and he's owning up to it. He had an extra crappy day on a team having a crappy day. Yeah, but I wonder if there'd be all this nsbb knob slobbing if, say, Neifi had done the same thing and then owned up to it. Did Neifi ever say anything when he bunted with two outs to the end the game a number of weeks ago? it was a hypothetical. i didn't mean to imply neifi has/would own up to sucking.
  7. It seems like he's gotten a free pass this year when he's been pretty bad, too (by his standards). Still, he's the best option we have, and I'll be irritated if JH just gives him away.

Yeah, but I wonder if there'd be all this nsbb knob slobbing if, say, Neifi had done the same thing and then owned up to it. Like that 2 error play vs the Braves? What I'm trying to say is, Walker somehow got onto this NSBB manlove list where he can do no wrong, even though his OPS is near the bottom for NL secondbasemen. (11th). Aside from his obp, he really hasn't been that good this year.

  10. Morgan's weird, lucid moment tonight reminded me of when Will Ferrell beats James Carville in a debate in Old School. I could totally imagine Morgan shaking his head dizzily after that and muttering, "Wha happened? I think I just blacked out."
  11. I like Todd, but he looked awful out there. I realize it's one game, and I realize this team blows, so it's meaningless, but he looked downright bad.
  12. Maybe someone can help me with something - I remember a game back earlier in the season against the Dodgers and since I have MLB extra innings, I was listening to Vin Sculley. And I remember clear as day that he said that Murton has lots of power, that he had won a few home run derby's in the minors - but that it had not yet been seen in the majors yet. Anybody else hear that? Very interesting from one of the best... It's been pretty well documented that Murton can put on a show during BP. The problem is, that power hasn't crossed over into game action, at the major league or minor league level. maybe he just hits 65 MPH fastballs well. Thanks for the info too bad rusch pitches for us
  13. If Walker can't handle being publicly criticized (Something many wish Baker would do MORE of) then he has no right to publoicly criticize other players. This team not only sucks, they suck at sucking. I'm so tired of them, and w/ Hendry running the show, we're pretty much guaranteed of 2 more years of bad ball.
  14. The cubs needed the extra day to get all their all-stars from Pitt to Chicago.
  15. Well there's something you don't hear every day.
  16. abreu in CF? Can he handle that position?
  17. That was a good attempt, but I think it took the only shattered batting helmet I can recall in recent history to really start the downward spiral. Yah, Sammy was never the same after Saloman Tores (SP???) gave him that shot to the head.... I hate that man... Yep, Sammy was actually hitting in the .330's in 2003, I think, When Tores decided that Sammy's helmet would look better in 30 pieces. 1. Salomon Torres 2. It was April when Sammy went down so his .330 could be deceiving. Not enough AB's yet. 3. Yes Torres is a bum. I blame him for the downfall of Sosa. I seem to recall the beaning happening on mother's day.
  18. there are no indications management values him enough to do so.
  19. Boy, Dusty sure does love that horses metaphor. I'm pretty surprised he got asked those tough questions. I thought I'd never say this, but kudos, Sullivan.
  20. I hate to say this, but I see Jason Schmidt going to the Mets. Sabean has a recent history of STUPID trades (AJP for Nathan/Bonser/Liriano, Williams/Aardsma for Hawkins, and Hawkins for Kline), and I could see Sabean trading Schmidt for Bannister (or Heilman) and Fernando Martinez, BASED on his recent history. I am saying based on Sabean's RECENT history, not what the Giants. My guess is...Sabean will NOT get enough for Schmidt, if he trades. You are never going to get enough in return if you trade somebody who will be a Free Agent at the end of the year. If Schmidt had another year left on the contract, then you could get more in return. But nobody is going to overpay to rent somebody for three months. If an extension is reached, that would change everything. It's hardly unprecedented.
  21. No. I understand we want guys who get on base, and dejesus is a nice little player, but he's not worth three of our top young players. We don't have much left to trade after that. And what little we do have (Ryu, marmol, Hill) we might need to shore up our rotation.
  22. It was Arizona, I think. and if memory serves, he hit is second career GS a day later. As for Cedeno, I think it's funny how often Baker gets blasted for having a quick hook on rookies, but many on this board want to give up on a 23 year old SS after half a season.
  23. I'm alarmed by the absence of Jones on that list. He could be a very valuable piece right now.
