  1. People obsessively condemn CubsBullsBears for obsessively condemning white sox fans for obsessing about the Cubs. Pretty awesome.
  2. If this is the case, do you have lower expectations for Pie than most? It would seem to me you're suggesting what we see now (approach-wise) is what we'll get. Or is there room for optimism that he can improve his BB rate/OBP?
  3. This all depends on how Hill looks for the rest of the season. For argument's sake, I'll assume his performance is comparable to Marshall and Marmol's. Next Year: Marshall Marmol (I think he looks just as ready as Marshall) Hill Gooz Trade: Hill Marmol Marshall Gooz LTV: Marmol-stuff not as good as Gooz, but I'm not sold on Gooz's health. Gooz Marshall Hill
  4. So this is a more general question, but it seems like a decent place to ask it. Can plate discipline really be taught to players at the minor league level and up? My brother believes players are too ingrained in their approach by the time they reach professional baseball (minors on up) to undergo radical change. I don't follow minor league baseball enough to know if low OBP guys commonly learn to take walks, or if that's a rarity.
  5. ? It's a combination of fulfilling and forfeiting. By using that word, Northside's prediction will be accurate regardless of whether they flop or are successful. Shrewd posting, Northside.
  6. Randall, with a career avg. of .283 never had trouble actually hitting. He just didn't walk and didn't have enough pop to be a 1B. Personally, I think he'd be a valuable PH.
  7. As far as potential goes, I'd rate Marmol the highest of the three because he has the best pure stuff. He's followed closely by Hill. As for the BBs, I believe someone pointed out in a different thread that it's common for pitchers to have some control probs when jumping to the bigs. They're facing better hitters with better K-zone judgement, so tempting pitches off the plate get chased less frequently. Hopefully that's what's going on w/ Marmol.
  8. pretty silly if he's not in the hall.
  9. Regarding the absence of Maddog:
  10. amazing if true. that's incompetence at an all new level.
  11. I didn't really mean you, Erik. Soccer10k asked the question, and people have been acting like it's the case.
  12. I can't believe he's only 29. He's been in the league so long, I thought he might be older than Julio Franco.
  13. His relationship is running hot right now... If ARAM leaves if Dusty leaves, I say bye bye ARAM. I hate to say it, but as much as I dislike Dusty...(and I REALLY REALLY hate him, as a manager, at least) I'm not sure if I could say that. Terrible managers will lose you games, to an extent (and I think Dusty might just be pushing the envelope on that), but not nearly as many as a lack of talent will. If we lose Aramis, our offense and our 3B position (not many out there) is REALLY screwed. So are you advocating keeping Dusty if it means keeping Aramis? Why does anyone think ARAM will leave if Dusty goes? Because he said he liked him to the media? Isn't that pretty much a standard soundbyte from any athlete?
  14. was it brenneman or levin that harry didn't like?
  15. There's just no way Schmidt and his giant face would stay healthy in a Cubs uniform.
  16. You know, I guarantee, if management said to Gooz, "We want to give you thursday's start, but we just can't figure out how to get you from Nevada to Chicago in time," Gooz would offer to buy his own plane ticket.
  17. I hate to say this, but if Albert keeps up this pace he's gonna be the best to ever play the game. Babe Ruth.
  18. This is true and I have proof! It is a strange planet called 'National'; here they are in their native garb watching the mother ship land: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/2006/07/10/mwF5xYhk.jpg To show how big zambrano is next to a mere mortal, it should be noted that Yadier Molina is standing in front of the 2. Awesome.
  19. you couldn't be more incorrect. The real question is do the Cubs currently have any outfielder that's actually better than Jose Cruz Jr. What were Pagan's numbers like in thne minors?
  20. I know he tried to steal someone's stuff. Jeter sounds right.
  21. Yeah, I was shocked when I read that yesterday. Then a little more shocked when I read that Mateo had been promoted. Tell me a bit about Mathes. Don't know him.
