    That's basically my exact story... except I got hooked earlier on in that season. I was more of a Sox fan (except I didn't really care about sports) prior to 95. The Jordan comeback got me really interested in sports and after the Bulls lost to the Magic, I needed a new sport to watch. Eventually, I was watching the 95 Cubs...They were way outta the division race.. Cincy had it in the bag.. But they were in the wild card race till that final weekend. I remember having tickets to the last game of the season, and I had made a sign that said GO GIANTS, because we needed the Rockies (I think) to lose to the Giants... When we were eliminated, I was so disappointed that I almost didn't go to the game. That was an awesome September that you never hear about anymore. That stretch run was so dramatic that it moved Harry break down in the booth on the season's last day, and motivated Sandberg to get back into the game. If only we hadn't sleepwalked from June-August. It was Wrigley, WGN, Dawson, Harry and the Superfriends for me, not necessarily in that order.

    Chicago Cubs (1902-present) Chicago Orphans (1898-1901) Chicago Colts (1890-1897) Chicago White Stockings (1870-1889) The Sox picked up the Cubs' old name in an effort to glean some of the fan affection for the successful late 1800s ballclubs.

    Dang! The Cubs look like they had a near dynasty in the 30s. Cubs NL titles prior to 1918: 1876, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1885, 1886, 1906, 1907, 1908 and 1910. Must have been fun, though I bet people were pissed about that 20-year drought from 1886-1906. Its not to have all those winning years but it isnt like there were that many teams back than either. Only a Sox fan would talk trash about stuff from the 1800s.

    Of course you'd have way more reason to be sad about Wrigley. Busch isn't exactly the baseball mecca that Wrigley is. Busch isn't as old, but probably holds more memories than Wrigley does. Please explain.

    My local weatherman is a Cub fan, and he greeted the disaster that was the World Series in the same manner as most of us here.

    Indignity of all indignities, this debacle went down on my birthday. As a youngster I mused that my late-October birthday could easily fall on the day the Cubs finally win it all ... as an adult, I'm convinced that the baseball Gods despise the Cubs in general, and me in particular.

    What Astros fans saying period? ESPN radio today was all about Cubs/Sox; you'd think the Astros weren't even involved.

    I respectfully disagree, Cuse. The bastard is a columnist on a legitimate, major sports site. Discussion of his ramblings gives us valuable insight into the heart of a Sox fan and the sham that is ESPN. For those reasons, it's worthy of consideration, IMHO.
