  1. supposed to be torn up this winter. they were built in the '78-'79 offseason.
  2. watching the astros tonight; they installed LED lighting at MMP and it's practically daylight in there. have to believe the cubs will retrofit the existing standards for LEDs when the two new outfield towers go in next year.
  3. That ball went directly over my head. Incredible. [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo] I was way back in the LF corner. ears were still ringing hours later
  4. I signed up for the waiting list in '04. Finally bought tix in '10, got crushed in the market (I live ~600 miles away) and let them go. Immediately got back in line and now I'm at 33,556.
  5. appears that they didn't bother to retouch the photo - you can see it is in a state of demolition. for some reason this design reminds me of the mesa facilities
  6. back in ye olde times the marquee was in prime position to be seen from the streetcar. you get the same effect now from the clark bus. imagine seeing "playing here" and jumping off to buy tix.
  7. i never really thought of this, so i was a little confused by this comment at first. however, i did find this http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_N0qDKRsrWVo/SWQCddkLm7I/AAAAAAAAAIk/GD3ivBjb2z8/s320/Wrigley+Home+Of+Bears+1939.jpg did they replace the entire marquee? that was the best pic i could find best I can tell, they had two sets of panels. "HICAGO CUBS" and "HICAGO BEARS." (the photos from today show the first "C" was static.)
  8. Plainly demonstrates how easily they would have swapped in the "CHICAGO BEARS" panels back in the day. Seems that would have been very innovative for its day.
  9. best places to stand are in the back of 200 at the corners where you are clear of the overhang
  10. mr. and mrs. rocket are good people, I will yell about len and kent in public with them anytime, anywhere!
  11. may this be the last time we get jobbed by aaron harang
  12. bullpen night is now, haren is tomorrow wood to start
  13. My suggestion is to turn your tv onto Fox That is what I thought too, but Fox is showing the Blue Jays vs. Yankees. I'm only 50 miles south of Chicago and haven't ever seen the Cardinals or Reds blacked out before. Strange. FOX is only showing St. Louis/Cincy in local markets because it started later than the Yankees/Blue Jays game because of the suspended game completion it made no sense, should have been handled just like a rain delay ... start with the out of market game, join the in-market once it starts
  14. @DanteTheDon is the house dj
  15. Huge for the pen - no one of consequence was used.
  16. What the [expletive] is he doing
  17. Direct sunlight into their position in high CF.
  18. Sosa, Sosa, Sosa, Sosa. the "our Cobs won't win" rant mined for truth
  19. The Reds make an effort to stage all Saturday games in April during daytime hours. No rain in Cincinnati for the last two hours. Radar clear now. Appeared that Maddon was not pleased with the field, but it's a state-of-the art setup that drains very well. Since it was the Reds' call, it appears that they wanted to bypass the Marquis start more than they wanted to keep the huge gate. It would have put the screws to the fans, but they could have safely played with a 7 p.m. (Eastern) start IMHO.
  20. MISSED IT BY ONE DAY
  21. I took him saying Russell is at 2b because of how thin they are there as a sign that he'll be up very soon. If he was going to be in Iowa for a few more months it wouldn't really matter if they had 2b issues in the majors or not. Of course I am guessing, but I think there's a really good chance he is a Cub this week. Alcantara clearly isn't earning any playing time from Maddon right now. I'm expecting Russell up, Alcantara to Iowa soon, then La Stella can replace Herrera when he returns. Yeah. I wouldn't be shocked by him being in Cinci. Wouldn't be shocked by him coming up on the 4th in St. Louis, either. Maybe he'll join Starlin and Jorge by debuting in that [expletive] hole though. Castro and Soler debuted in front of paltry crowds. As of now, the Reds have nearly sold out the whole weekend series. Don't know if that factors into the decision, but the park won't be a ghost town. 11:35 AM CST in Pittsburgh might do the trick.
  22. They just changed the script on the front from CHICAGO to CUBS last year didn't they? That's the road alternate. CHICAGO is still the standard.
  23. Nice look at the details of the 1979 jersey here: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/10281-1979-game-used-autographed-dave-kingman
  24. 1988 version on the left, 1994 on the right. The 1988 polyester is much thicker, much more coarse.
