  1. Home changes were subtle to be sure. The walking bear showed up in 1997. The last of the Cub "faces" debuted in 1994, and that set featured a thinner pinstripe and lost the sleeve trim. 1990 brought belts and buttons, the first real changes since 1979.
  2. That script is this closest this wordmark ever came to appearing on the field. http://www.arcade-museum.com/images/129/1294318434.jpg Very popular on T-shirts and Wrigley giveaway caps of the era. Seemed very out of place to my eyes at the time. The modded version of this came out in 1991 and lasted until "Cuba" showed up in 1994. The 1997 edition got the "Chicago" much closer to that used pre-1982. Hard to believe that the Cubs' standard home and road designs will be 20 years old two seasons from now.
  3. The Reds are celebrating the 1990 championship team. We're just being good sports.
  4. You could barely read the "CHICAGO" on the TV sets of the day. It was changed the next year to be more legible.
  5. Big walkup gate is all but assured, and the game is on WLS-TV. Crane is a happy man.
  6. lol what? Told the Reds' audience at least twice that the RF bleachers would be closed until next season. Waiting for him to go there again tonight.
  7. BUT THOM SAID NO RF BLEACHERS OR BOARD UNTIL 2016
  8. Here. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/schedule/broadcast/index.jsp?c_id=chc
  9. The existing upper deck was completely rebuilt in the early 1970s after the Bears left, and that was all done in the offseason. Of course, that was a build in-place, and this time they will also be adding the external concourse. David is correct in saying that the steelwork necessary for the new concourse has been completed on the 3B side. Massive "x" beams are visible in the photos at BCB. They will have to tear up portions of the 3B concourse to build access from the Cubs' dugout. Looks like they will go in underneath the new gate.
  10. paging borgie
  11. Makes sense now. That would have caused havoc at any big game pre-renovations.
  12. Word on Twitter was that ushers were handing out gate passes and telling folks to hit the McDonald's or 7-Eleven. Simple math should have prevailed. Lower bowl sections should have been closed and tickets refunded if they couldn't maintain at least last year's level of service.
  13. Still not exactly matching the existing scoreboard font, but it's soooooo much better than the mess they had before.
  14. Interesting that they're going with the postseason arrangement on the CF board for Sunday night. The Cubs and Cards are the only teams represented. Typically the rest of MLB would be up there with "NO GAME" notices.
  15. Seems the banners will be a staple until the chain link fences are replaced.
  16. Seems to me that MLB is moving to establish contingency plans to ensure that the ESPN telecast can go forward, just in case of an accident or some other unforeseen complication. Nothing going on in the upper deck other than the ribbon boards and the video control room. Photos from the 3B side show a fresh pour of concrete and the framework for walls. They're very close. Worst case can't be more than a matter of days - toilets and concessions aren't that hard to erect.
  17. Seems a real possibility that the new video board won't be ready, but that wouldn't force them to relocate. The concourse must still be in shambles.
  18. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/19/this-is-awesome-every-game-on-the-final-day-of-the-mlb-regular-season-will-start-at-the-same-time/ I like it. Probably should do the same for the last Saturday.
  19. Schwarber in the game.
  20. Same here, be very careful if you're canceling. You can cancel on the website but that's ONLY to cancel NEXT year's auto renewal. If you want a refund for this year you have to call them and ask. I'm moving only 8 miles south from downtown Milwaukee and now can't get the Cubs on mlb.tv. It really [expletive] sucks that I'm moving into the Cubs viewing area and will add CSN Chicago to my cable lineup but will be able to actually see 50+ less games than I could get on MLB.tv. Any chance at WGN and WLS over-the-air?
  21. Seems Rahm would have insisted on keeping the revenue in town given his leverage with the Wrigley plan.
  22. The Windermere thread, followed closely by the "carton of thick onion gravy" bit.
  23. 4/18/1998 Kerry Wood's first start (and win) at Wrigley. Part 1 - Part 2 -
  24. Potential effect on TV revenues I'd guess. I'm not sure how all that works so I can't make any educated analysis though. The solution he mentioned was to make an exception that would allow for the Cubs to be seen via MLB.TV/Extra Innings in the affected markets.
