  2. @CubsWeather Obsessive this one is.
  3. I always voted in tandem for Rizzo and Porcello. Can't stand Sale.
  4. Sammy all-time. As for now, Rizzo picked up the baton today. ARam had it last.
  5. Clay County, Ky. is mine. Nice to see that Cincinnati chipped in for us.
  6. WTF? I understand him not being allowed to pitch, but why not just have him suit up in A's garb and sit with his teammates?
  7. The game sold out, so it seems they were making sense.
  8. He's been Tweeting for a while about how good he feels and how ready he is to get back on the mound in games. I think when he was first shut down, the timetable had him coming back in July, so maybe we'll see something pretty soon. The last tweet from him referenced a late July return.

  10. I still think the A's should return to Philly.
  11. WBBM 780 AM features excellent skywave propagation - very comparable to WGN 720 AM and maybe better for some folks. The hinterlands rejoice.
  12. Selig, the McCaskeys and the Ricketts were introduced at the 100th Anniversary game and were not booed. Sosa would have been fine.
  13. Once upon a time, one could tune in to WGN and feel as if Chicago was just outside their door no matter what part of bum [expletive] America in which they lived. The Bozo Show, WGN News, stuff like the Bud Billiken parade and of course the Cubs every damn day in the summer. That service began to deteriorate in the early 1990s, a slow process that will now conclude this fall. I used to adore this superstation, knew the channel number by heart at all my relatives' homes and it was the first thing I checked upon getting into a hotel room. Now I can't even tell you where it lands in my satellite lineup - I always watch the feed via MLB.tv. I suppose I'm trying to say that this was a terrific arrangement in days long past and its expiration should come as a surprise to no one. Might have to have a Bud for Harry and actually tune in to WGN for the last game.
  14. I'm no longer bitter about the Soz' success in 2005, but I still harbor an irrational hatred of Reinsdorf.
  15. Interesting to compare this with the TV territory map. Close correlation for some clubs (Atlanta) and almost none for others (Houston.) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/59/MLB_Blackout_Areas.png
  16. Neat article spurred by this map: http://www.chicagomag.com/city-life/April-2014/Baseballs-Metropolis-How-the-Cubs-and-Cardinals-Conquered-the-Midwest/
  17. What a missed opportunity. There was so much goodwill out there yesterday - Selig, a McCaskey family representative and the Ricketts clan all received benign, if not warm ovations. There will never be a better chance to ease Sosa back into the clique. I agree that the lineup of ex-Cubs seemed terribly incomplete, with entire eras ignored. Surely a few of these people could have been coaxed into the park: Bruce Sutter, Bill Madlock, Dave Kingman, Bill Buckner, Rick Reuschel, Rick Sutcliffe, Dennis Eckersley, Leon Durham, Jody Davis, Shawon Dunston, Don Zimmer, Jerome Walton, Mitch Williams, Mark Grace, Randy Myers, Gary Gaetti, Randall Simon ... most of these people occupied fleeting moments of notoriety as Cubs, but all came to mind as I tried to visualize the seasons from 1975-2003. If Dempster is suitable, then certainly any of these would have been also.
  18. Maybe they decided to throw a bone to the CubsNet stations. It's not the black hole implied - besides WCIU, they blanket much of downstate Illinois and the Cubs' traditional enclaves in Indiana and Iowa. Another potential factor - the Reds' presence knocks out a swath of the audience that would have seen the Cubs feed on EI and MLB.TV given the shared territories to the east. Just grasping at straws, it is unusual but I can't imagine that the negotiations are a factor.
  19. Seems that it featured an extended rain delay, but the box doesn't mention it. Probably thinking of a different game.
  20. If recollection serves Lewin worked all the out of town games in '97. It seems reasonable that Caray could have made exceptions for the STL (friends) and ATL (family) trips, but I don't think he would have made the effort for Cleveland.
  21. Random historical note: I count eight ballparks still in use in which Harry Caray worked: (1) Fenway Park (2) Wrigley Field (3) Dodger Stadium (4) Angel Stadium (5) Oakland Coliseum (6) Kauffman Stadium (7) U.S. Cellular Field (8) Coors Field Turner Field was open in his last year, but I believe Josh Lewin worked all the games in Atlanta.
  22. Nine years in and that Sox run still pisses me off. The glow of a single title would last a lifetime, though I would (as others have said) start thinking about the next one as soon as the new season begins.
  23. Junior Lake still trending in my Cubs-addled twitterverse.
  24. lol what the [expletive] Only one of the top aviation/aerospace universities in the [expletive] world.
  25. Been at this for decade(s) now. The losing does not impact my fandom and Ricketts knows it.
