  1. The convention is fantastic. Don't pay attention to the meatballs, and don't waste the day away in line for autographs that you'll never look at. I'm not sure who I'm ranting to.
  2. I have tried to capture decent shots of the seat availability as of this afternoon. I am sure that seats are available in Section 402, but for some reason the camera won't pan over that far. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/southfork76/1357590238970153_zpsfcd15c78.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/southfork76/1357590238970193_zps6420f377.jpg

  4. It's astonishing how easy it is to become a member of the BBWAA Yeah, he was on the Cubs beat for a year or two. Phil Hersch has a vote, he's covered the Olympics for the past 25 years. Greenstein was also on the Sox beat for several years. Not that it justifies the vote, however ...

  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxA9LnricLU&feature=relmfu Cubs vs. Pirates from April 1986. Called due to darkness. Am I wrong to assume that Leyland is the last active manager to have had a game lost to darkness before lights were installed at Wrigley?
  11. Matthews is also a known quantity, having worked the Philly games for years. He is terrible.
  12. I wanted to see the rainbow sleeves, but they are present (albeit in modified form) on the BP gear.
  13. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/02/the-astros-unveiled-their-new-logo-and-uniforms-tonight/ I like them. http://nbchardballtalk.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/a6vdk_cciaawlnn.jpg
  14. Brilliant move. One more Jimbo deal off the books.

  16. Very deflating to see the season close. It is supposed to snow here tomorrow - very fitting. On to 2013.
  17. Gritty McGritterson is going to have two rings in two years. Looks like the Giants have their own Jimmy Anixter - the guy with a SF hat and bright orange Marlins jersey was in back of the plate in San Francisco for Game 2, and he has similar seats tonight in Detroit.
  18. The ratings are proportional to DMA size. A 1.76 in Chicago represents a far bigger audience than a 1.9 in San Diego.
  19. Disappointing news. I hope they take care to hire a competent analyst - the Joe Carter days are all too fresh even yet, and MLB is full of horrible on-air "talent." Kasper and Brenly were terrific.
  20. Unbelievable. I have no ill will toward the man making a living, but why on earth would a team like the Reds - big contracts, limited window - give this butcher two more years?
  21. The gargantuan club section at new Yankee Stadium looks empty even when it's full. The energy that thrived in the old park has been lost.

  25. I remember the howls from Giant fandom when Big Jim signed Dusty. Who could possibly miss the missteps that marred their 1993, '97, '98, and 2000 seasons? When Cincinnati signed him, I was astounded that a team within the division - an organization that was across the diamond when he batted out of order and had a front row seat for the lunacy of the last days of the 2004 meltdown - would sign up for the hell we had been through. Surely Baker has managed his last game in Cincinnati. Who will be the next bunch of suckers?
