  1. The John Sterling/Waldman combo is the worst by miles. Hard to believe they hold down the booth that once belonged to Red Barber and Mel Allen.
  2. These unis look so much better than the dime store blue tops/Eastbay special gray pants combo. The trim makes all the difference.
  3. CJ Edwards retweeted: Jared Parnell ‏@j_parnell10 2h Go ahead and give @CEdwardsSBS new team a follow @smokiesbaseball #MovingOnUp
  4. I loved Dawson and Sandberg as a youngster, Wood, Aramis and Big Z later on, but the [expletive] that has been thrown on Sosa puts me firmly in his camp. The more they try to make me hate him, the more I support him.
  5. This Mets-Jays game from Montreal is surreal.
  6. Yep. Who could have guessed that he would outlast Wood, Prior and Big Z?
  7. Broken jaw here. Kid pitcher hated me for some reason and threw at my face.
  8. Time to argue semantics. Cubs team = third base dugout at Wrigley. Cubs organization = everybody else. I argue the component most likely to "bust" is the hypothetical patchwork of ill-advised free agent signings the meatballs called for all winter long.
  9. The early 2000s say hello. I never approached those days with the kind of confidence I have now. And I'm as jaded as they come.
  10. Call me a Ricketts/Theo sycophant - I had a blast last year at Daytona and Knoxville. The team made a conscious choice to tank the season once again and trade serviceable veteran talent for excellent young talent, and to exchange face for draft position. I made a conscious choice to avoid in-person encounters with the big league club. The Cubs have a legit, deep organization for the first time since the mid-80s. NSBB has clamored for this for 11 years, and now that it's here, I'm enjoying it.
  11. Game is live at Cubs.com.
  12. Random musing: Jim Abbott had two hits and three RBI in his life, all against the Cubs and off Jon Lieber.
  13. 2003 NLCS Game 3 - Cubs 5, Marlins 4 (11 innings) - 10/10/2003. Complete FOX-TV broadcast includes pregame and postgame shows. First time on YouTube AFAIK.
  14. Just watched it again. WTF
  15. Here's an obscure contest: Padres 7, Cubs 4 from July 14, 1989. Tape starts in the 4th (just in time to see the play of the game.) Terrific commercials and Cubs promos intact. Part one: Part two:
  16. It's the first of several games from my hoard of cassettes that I intend to upload. For those like me who geek out over stuff like this, I've set up a Twitter feed to announce my uploads as well as promote other available games - @MLBonVHS.
  17. The April 16, 2004 11-10 slugfest vs. Cincinnati that ended with back-to-back homers by Sosa and Alou. Part II
  18. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XctLwpBkexk Thirty year pennant drought!
  19. I can only assume that is the result of over 20 years of recording and re-recording on a VHS tape in EP mode. Marvelous.
  20. Looks to me like they're getting rid of the CF LED board altogether. I'm thinking the green sign board (Budweiser) won't be static. Time will tell.
  21. Spectacular. Very nice work on the upper bleacher tier, the only section left untouched by the 05-06 expansion. They're adjusting the rake to allow for more headroom and a patio under the scoreboard, and to make room for a new LED board at the base in a manner that won't result in obstructed views.
  22. The bad PR brought on by litigation would have to pale in comparison to the ill press generated when they put up the privacy screens in 2002, and that barely registered if memory serves. They were ugly as hell, but the fanbase didn't react at all.
  23. One of the buildings is publicly for sale right now, and others may be available given the financial hit the gang has taken due to the rotten teams of the last few years. Ricketts could start there and pick them off a few at a time, with the entire cabal collapsing once the end of the contract is within sight. The Cubs' leverage improves with each passing day.
  24. This. FOX would never accept a huge market like Chicago being out of play in prime time. Edit: when new stuff airs, as Goony implied.
  25. On a semi-related note, I haven't watched BBTN since I got MLB Network, and I so don't miss it. Same here.
