  1. Its like that other places too. Some people feel if you haven't been " on the job" long enough you do not have a right to an opinion. But for some strange reason it was ok for both Prior and Zambrano to stand up to Bonds? I mean afterall he is an established player and they weren't at the time. Oh that's right, nobody likes Bonds so it was ok. Well, for one, Zambrano and Prior never sucked as hideously as Hill has for as long as he as at the ML level. Prior especially looked like a superstar almost out of the gate. Carlos eased into it, but comparing them to Hill is absurd. Hill is new and he's awful. In a game like this, you're going to get eaten alive if you run your mouth, and he did. He has nothing fall back on in a battle like that, so the smart thing to do is shut up. It's not like Ozzie went after him...Hill slammed his player and Ozzie got pissed at the scrub doing it, and Hill thusly got PWNED. So if Hill were playing well it wouldn't be a problem? It is to laugh.

Oh that's right, nobody likes Bonds so it was ok. Any time someone stands up to a cheater it's a good thing. No. What is happening in this thread is hypocricy at its finest. If Hill were 4-0 with a respectable ERA I suspect some of the opinions in this thread would change. I don't like what Barrett did, but I think Hill was trying to defend a teammate. Since when is that a bad thing? Oh, yeah when the player is playing well. Go figure.

  4. Not a totally embarassing weekend. JJ is growing on me a little.
  5. Erm, the most basic rules of probability? No, what I'm actually saying is that you don't understand basic probability. There are no facts that show that he won't. I've never even said that I don't think Prior will go on the DL next year. But what I have said about a million times now is that there are no facts that show that Prior will go the DL next year, and that therefore you regarding it as guaranteed is ridiculous. Do you really not know what a fact is? Because just about the only fact that would guarantee that Prior would go on the DL next year is "Mark Prior underwent Tommy John surgery on May 22nd 2006" or something along those lines. Now unless you've got devastating information you want to share with us, your statement that Prior is guaranteed to go on the DL at some point next year is just nothing but entirely, completely, utterly, absolutely wrong. You can't be serious. When something keeps happening, it's a trend. Until the trend ends, it's most likely to continue. I never friggin' guaranteed anything. Stop letting your bias toward Prior because you like him as a pitcher or he signed an autograph or had a great 03 get in the way of your view of reality. Until he goes a whole year without going on the DL, we should expect him to. It's not absolute, but until something different happens, it's very likely to happen. Why don't you quit while you're behind. Each post you make only makes things look worse for you.
  6. I would take Mariotti over hawk anyday, and way to go barrett!!!!!!!!! I have always been pretty indifferent about Mariotti. All I know about him is what I see on ATH, but now just knowing that Harrelson hates him, well, that makes Mariotti one of my new favorite people. I dislike Harrellson more than anybody else in baseball. He's such an idiot. agreed Marriotti is all about self-promotion. He is in the Mke Lupica class of sports writers, much more concerned with the witty pun then actually making a point. He columns are pedantic and thoughtless. Hawk doesn't like Marriotti becuase they are exactly alike. When he looks at Jay he sees himself and he doens't like himself.
  7. What exactly did Mariotti write about today? By the way, I find it funny that Hawk bashes him on the air. This is the only case I agree with that idiot. In a round about way he said AJ got punched because of his reputation for being a punk.
  8. The worse thing about Hill is his age. Mizzou, go look up Randy Johnson or Kurt Shilling's numbers in their first few seasons. Most pitchers go through a learning process when they get to the bigs. Forty innings is nothing. It is also extremely difficult to pitch when you know with one or two bad outings you are gone. Look at the Cubs track record. It's no wonder why they haven't produced many major leaguers from the minors. They do almost everything in their power to sabotage their success.
  9. Boy, oh boy. Bad tactics (hit and run) then bad swings at bad pitches. That's just... bad.
  10. I thought he was asking for a ball personally. The ump threw one to him right after that. Z was yelling at AJ even before AJ was half-way down the 3rd base line. How did you see that. Are you watching WGN.
  11. I really hope not. Don't the Cubs look bad enough? Let them talk.
  12. Murton is not the problem. In fact, he is one of the bright spots along with Marshall and Cedeno. Probably the only bright spots right now.
  13. Micah was on Minors and Majors today on XM 175. What a great interview. When the guy asked him about playing a position behind Lee he said it's great and terrible. he said he doesn't worry about too much about it becuase he cannot control the situation. Words to live by. Seems like a real good kid.
  14. Every team in sports has injuries. Good teams can over come them, especially with a good front office who prepares for them. Let's look at the other side of town. Last year, Thomas hurt and Orlando Hernandez sore, resign Everett and bring up McCarthy. This year, Contreras gets hurt, oh, there were 6 capable starters on the team anyways. At some point you also have to look at the coaching staff. There's an issue when the same guys keep getting hurt. Do you look at the specific coaches, trainer, GM for putting so much stock in these guys, or GM for not getting backups in the offseason (the pitching didn't knock your socks off with everyone healthy anyways, unless you like 4 man rotations, plenty of starters were out there). It makes it worse with a guy like Wood who has never really proven anything (remember when someone found his scouting report in the clubhouse and it was one of an average pitcher. He's making a living off of one game) and when guys not affiliated with the team or city are pointing out mechanics problems Derek Lee was a freak accident, but this Cubs bench is horrible, you need some suitable backups! Welcome to the forum and great first post.
  15. Didn't Sullivan indicate that it wasn't him who leaked the story? Regardless, I can only ask why? Why would either Hendry or MacPhail feel the need to do this? I mean, what where they thinking? Everyone who reads Sullivan know he's more gossip columnist then beat writer. And on top of all that, why should they care? If Jones is that fragile, if I'm Hendry I'm looking to get him out Chicago on the next flight to KC, Miami, or Seattle. holy smokes, this is bad. Real, real, bad. But it does explain a lot about the Cubs. Sullivan didn't say who leaked the story, but Sullivan wanted it to stay in house. He did say he always got along with Hendry and thought he did with MacPahail, but is still mad at MacPhail now. What were they thinking? They didn't want the company that owns the Cubs ripping the Cubs. The Score ripped this apart today. What purpose do you have as a writer if you can't be objective? You can't get rid of Jones. He is the Cubs hottest hitter, even though that aint saying much. Remember Sullivan misquotes Jones. Jones isn't as fragile as Sullivan made him seem. Walker is. The Tribune and the Cubs are only related because they are held by a sinlge mulit-national, billion dollar corporation. The tribune isn't Cubs.com. The job of Hendry and McPhaill is to put a winning product on the field. The job of Sullivan is to write about that product. I suppose Hendry & Co. have a right to their opinion but people in their position shouldn't do what they did. This is like Stonegate all over again. They are only making it worse for themselves. From your statement, I can only assume that you do not work for a large company, quite possiblby you work in the public sector or are in school. The relationship is far deeper than you describe, the Trib is a media company in the entertainment business and to have some contract worker hack ripping apart everything, everyday, well it just isn't good business. The Board will look at a 500 mill asset vs a $50k writer or editor and decide which is the more valuable asset to protect. It sure won't be Sullivan or McGrath. Just as Stone and Chip thought they were the product and found out that wasn't the case, so will Sullivan and McGrath. LOL, BREAKING NEWS: Sullivan rips Jones in Trib. Stock Drops 50 points. If the Trib want to protect their 500 million dollar ass(et) then the best thing they can do is get rid of Hendry and McPhaill and not worry about some hack writer trying to sell copy.
  16. With 5 out of 8 everyday position players batting right handed. So much for right/left splits Dusty.

  19. They're going to need some more balls. Nice compact swing, and from the left side. He looked a little off ballance on a few of those though, probably because of the camera. He's big for a SS.
  20. Another inspried effort by the boys from the north. Oh, boy it's going to be a long year.
  21. That's assinine. We don't run the Cubs. But anyway, I can't speak for anyone other than myslef, but if Hendry were justified in calling a reporter on the carpet that would be one thing. But with the state of the currentl club, it is quite another. And I am in no way defending the hack Paul Sullivan. His sportswriting is just bad, but then again that is not what Hendry was complaining about.
  22. It's funny because it's true.
