  1. Yea, like he has done for the past two off-seasons. Instead of correcting problems he's either magnified them or utterly rejected that they exist. Jim, Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life.
  2. Just going by Hendry's reported comments on WGN radio, I think Baker will be around at least until the ASB. I believe Hendry said something about giving him a chance to work his way out of it, or something like that. Anyway, using the old faithful injury excuse, the Cubs haven't been able to put their best team on the field. So when Lee, Wood, Prior, and Miller get back I think Hendry will give Baker some time to turn things around. As far as I'm concerned this is a win/win situation for the fans. If they don't play better Bakers will likely be fired. If they do play better maybe they can get back into the playoff picture. However, my worst fear is if they play better and get three or four games above .500 by the end of the season. Then all the sportswriters will be lauding Baker and he will likely be back, if he wants.
  3. The pen is spent. Do we really want to ask guys to go out and throw every other day? I don't think the pen is spent. Every game thread TT posts the innings of each guy and there is plenty of work to go around. This whole season is a compete debacle of a disaster. It is a FUBAR of a SNAFU. Everything that could possibly go wrong has.
  4. A player? Not at all. Every player? Yes. Can you cite any examples. I'd really like to know if there is hope.
  5. Cedeno is kind of a pre-steriod, pre-Arod/Tejada/Nomar/Jeter throw back. I think he will be a good-not-great SS for a long time. Both He and Murton have more than held their own so far in their first full season. It's about the walks right now for Cedeno. His BABIP is pretty high, but not completely unsustainable. He put up a .050 IsoD for his minor league career, if he gets it up to .040 he should be around a .330 OBP and around a .740 OPS, which would be pretty fine for his rookie season. I would love if Ronny developed more selectivity at the plate. He is still young but I don't know if he will ever develop much patience. That brings up a question I've had for a long time. Is it out of the ordinary for a player to develop plate discipline in their first few years in the bigs?

  7. Not trying to pat myself on the back or saying I told you (rhetorical) so. But... I did.
  8. Judging by Jim Tracy's track record, I'd have to say his refusal to play Choi against lefties is no indictment of Choi's ability. IMO, he is one of those players who never really got a fair shake.
  9. (a) No they're not better - that's the point. (b) Explain the losses to the Pirates, Diamondbacks, and Giants in the same time-frame. If they Padres are hot it is because they've played six games against the Cubs. It is all relative.
  10. Vance, Can you send that to 1060 W. Addison St, Chicago IL, 60613 and address it to Mr. J. Hendry?
  11. I just can't believe that they would even consider extending Baker's contract. I cannot berlieve it. It is unbelievable. do they watch this team? I am refusing to believe this until it actually happens. I mean, let's just say the Cubs go on to lose 7 of their next 10 and then 6 of their next 10. That would make them 22 and 35 and take them to mid June, How could they extend him?
  12. I agree. When the Cubs got home from LA they played a three game serise against the Marlins. After the Marlins serise in which they had 14 or 15 hits in three games and still won two out of three, I made thread "Dark Cloud or Good Sign". This slide started there and they haven't had an off day since. In retrospect, it wasn't a dark cloud but a Category 5 hurricane.
  13. Let's wait and see how he pitches first. The loss of velocity is a concern. Slow. Gun. Multiple slow guns? I don't think so. How many times do you have to read that it was in the 40s and rainy? How can anyone possible think a pticher could have his best stuff on a night like that.
  14. And a week ago he sucked. It's called regression to the mean. It can go in both directions. But I expect he will be pretty close to his three year averages at the end of the year. How stupid will this thread look in a week if he goes back to old ways? One thing I've noticed is that he has been a littler more paitent during his current streak of mediocrity.
  15. http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-chris14.html Get used to it.... As soon as the Cubs have a decent good luck streak, of say, maybe 5 games....the Cubs will extend Baker for anoter 1 to 2 yrs. :evil. It is inevitable that Baker will be extended.  :x I thought all this re-signing Dusty was just crazy talk from the frustrated fans, but to read it in the paper? I cannot believe that they would even think about re-signing him when the team looks this bad on a daily basis. And have since 2004. I just cannot believe it. It is beyond belief.
  16. Please somebody help us.
  17. Time to go mow the lawn. I think I will stick my foot under the blade. I would be much more fun then living and dying with every Cub game.
  18. Hey, hey, ho, ho, Dusty Baker has got to go Hey, hey, ho, ho, Dusty Baker has got to go Hey, hey, ho, ho, Dusty Baker has got to go Hey, hey, ho, ho, Dusty Baker has got to go Hey, hey, ho, ho, Dusty Baker has got to go Hey, hey, ho, ho, Dusty Baker has got to go Hey, hey, ho, ho, Dusty Baker has got to go
  19. It's actually funny in a sick sort of way. Just when you think it cannot possibly get worse... it does. I fully expect Pulojs to hit 8 HRs and save the game. Then some Card fan will post a video for us in case we missed it.
  20. Make no mistake. This loss IS on Dusty. Edit: If the Cubs lose.
  21. Santo hasn't said a word since the home run.
  22. Even simple animals know that when you try to get some cheese and get shocked, you stop trying to get the cheese. But goddarnit, variable rewards systems, like gambling, tend to grab people. So Dusty sees some good results from bunting , you know what he's gonna do? BUNT SOME MORE. Of course spread over the course of a season its gonna have a very negative effect, but he wont worry about that. i'm curious to see what these "good results" are. It seems like whenever we bunt, that run never scores. There are complicated inter-related contingencies operating. Not the least of which is the private verbal behavior one engages in with relation to the social contingencis in operation. ------ And the Cubs find a new and more hurtful way to blow a game.
