  1. yes we do :P We might have to get that beer soon. Teh Cubs could score 5 runs tonight. While you are out pick us up some chips and fill up the car with gas. chop, chop.
  2. I can't believe I got sucked into this one. usually I just enjoy CubinNY handling it. The Ignore button helps keep me sane. I'm a behavior analyst, I should know better then to reward unwanted behavior so I just use the ignore button a lot more than I use to.
  3. Jim's never ending quest to re-create the 2003 Marlins :D
  4. See, that is the problem. Repeated mental errors. The same repeated errors over and over again, year after year. Once or twice blame the players. Repeated errors blame Dusty. In addition, twice Dusty has left a young starter in too long. The first instance with Marshall, it didn't cost the Cubs a game. They went on to win 2-1. The second was last night. Hill should have never been out there for the 7th. Before that inning the game was still close. Those are just two examples. Here is a third, batting JJ ahead of Murton simply because he is left handed or something. I don't really know why. Dusty hasn't shaken up the batting order significanlty in during this entire loosing streak. Just for one game. If it were me I'd try this batting order and see what happens. Murton Walker Barrett Aramis Jones Cedeno Pierre Hairston/Neifi Pitcher EDIT: I posted this before reading Bruce's post. Thanks Bruce.
  5. On the radio today I heard that the Mets are hot and heavy after Dontrel but the Fish are not ready to deal. And when they are ready they will want Lastinings. At this point the Mets don't want to trade Lastings. Stay tooned. If the Mets can somehow swing Willis from an in-division rival they will have to be the odds on favorite to win the NL.
  6. My mom is a survivor too. Go Jim and David.
  7. Then you just have to do that. And put Cabrera in right field. But I think you're wrong, that wouldn't get their attention at all. Agreed, I think they would probably want a Murton or Pie, plus a mid level position prospect, and maybe a Jae Kuk Ryu. I would trade any three pitching prospects for him including Marshall, Hill and Guzman.
  8. Shmidt was coming off of a complete game shutout in his last start. I pointed this out in the game thread but it bears repeating here. Shmidt is one of those rare pitchers that you have to be somewhat agreesive with. You have to look for a hitable fastball early in the count and hope you don't miss it. The reason is his change is so devistating. Moreover, he rarely walks people, although this year his walk totals are up a bit from historic levels. The Cubs offense is real bad, but Shmidt was on last night for the second start in a row.
  9. Nope -- but we are nearing terminal velocity. You can calculate the Cubs terminal velocity here: http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/termv.html
  10. Shmidt is one of those rare pitchers that you have to be somewhat agressive with. You have to look for a fastball early in the count b/c his change is so devistating. And he typically doesn't walk people, although this year he has walked more than usual.
  11. I was just going to start one. When is it time to panic? How long can the Cubs go without making some big changes?
  12. I have Winn on my fantasy team but he is on the bench. :x
  13. Me either. And I have to work in about 6.5 hours.
  14. The Cubs are in free fall. They can't do anything right. And it couldn't come at a worse time. On a westcoast road swing with no off days. I'm not making excuses for them but it has to be tough to be in that clubhouse right now.
  15. No he doesn't. Hill is a rookie pitcher who has just thrown more pitchers than ever before and the top of the order is coming up. It is a no brainer.
  16. Will the last person in this thread please turn out the lights on the way out?
  17. I agree. But overall I think Hill is going to be a pretty good pitcher. He just needs to get some more experience in the bigs.
  18. It is just painful to watch JJ's swing. He flys open too soon and because of that his swing is even longer. He just has a terrible approach. ----------- That Neifi/Hill/Walker play at first base has happened all too often under Dusty's watch.
  19. Did Neifi change his pants? I could hav sworn he had the low riders on in the first inning.
  20. That ball damn near popped out of his mit. But as we learned on page 13 and out's and out, boys.
  21. That ball was gone in most any other park.
  22. Take a night off of moderation. Yes I meant the double entendre. :D
