    I believe that in general, the talent disparity in the NFL is not that large with the exception of QB, and that the Bears have enough talent to be close to .500 if they had a better QB and coaches. Poles sat on his hands, which was stupid, and then didn't target the right players in FA, but individually I don't think they are as bad as they look as a team. You simply cannot have guys blocking their own players in week 1 of the season, etc.

    lol, their game with Washington was 35-36, this one could be 45-47, but it more likely will be a 27-14 game. I could see the Bears slowing the game down with a lot of running plays to keep the defense off the field.

    In order of likeliness: Gomes getting 2 hits to reach 100 and 1 HR to reach 10... (not the HR) Horner 4 Runs scored to reach 100... Merryweather gets 5 more Ks for 100... Happ getting 1 HR for 20 and 2 RBI to reach 80... Wicks to get to 5 wins, not a good bet on the ERA Team can get at least 3 wins for 85 and make the playoffs. Steele to finish with ERA under 3 (3.00)... Morel to get his Slug over 500 (.492) and OPS over 800 (.799)... Bellinger hitting 4 HR to reach 30 and 5 RBI to reach 100, to go along with his 300+ Avg and 20+ SB....

    I think the real question is do they have an offense that can score points? Washington put up 35 on them and Miami put up 70. They seem to have a lot of issues. It could be a good day for Fields if they learned anything. I don't think there is much hope for the defense holding them under 21 points.

    If they would stop their practice of trying to create a bullpen during the first month and a half of the season, that would be good too.

    Yeah, they are stuck with Poles for the next few years at least.

    I think good QBs find a way. Look at Matthew Stafford and many others in the history of the NFL. It's the reason why Archie told Eli not to sign with the Chargers. But there is nothing in his game performance to suggest that Fields is a competent QB.

    I think we could all postmortem the Fields situation forever. The Bears drafted a kid who had an up-and-down record as a passer but possessed tremendous athletic ability. They knew the flaws he had. What we don't know is what efforts were made to correct the flaws and what Poles et al. knew about those efforts after they took over. In the NFL if you don't have a QB, you are not going to win. If they thought they could correct the flaws and improve his play, they missed badly. If they didn't think they could correct them, waiting for the right time to draft a QB is NOW not two years later.

    There is a lot of measurement error in defensive metrics. Perhaps there will always be a large error. He makes good throws and knows how to cut the angles in Wrigley to get to the ball on a bounce. he's not a particularly good route runner or fast. I put him in a bin of LF that are passable to average. There is a tremendously small standard deviation in that group (most are clustered around average). You have to be a noticeable outlier one way or the other.

    a must-win game? When is the week before the 1st bye? That would be an excellent time to find a coaching staff and give them two weeks to implement a new plan to change things. It's what I would do as a GM if I were trying to save my job.

    I agree. But on the other hand, they pay a lot for mediocracy. And now Freeze has two or three years to skate before people start to understand he's not good either.

    Hugh Freeze has it about as good as anyone in college football right now. No matter what Auburn does the fans are blaming Harsin. Should be a good couple of years until things get hot.
