  1. ✊ I've always said baseball is a microcosm of life. But really, this is about Boras using the only tools he has to try and get his people the best contract he can. But as I've said previously, he's not the villain in this story.
  2. if Milroe can learn to throw the ball, he's going to be a top QB. But I don't think it's going to happen. Alabama has really good coaches and he didn't progress at all during the year. If it were 30 years ago and they were still running the wishbone option, he'd be devastating at the college level.
  3. I think the Ricketts and Jed are in lockstep. However, I think that the QO thing is more of a Jed issue than it is a Ricketts issue. i have a hard time believing the kids are that invested in the draft and draft philosophy.
  4. I suppose we are talking about different degrees of competitiveness. I should have specified that. The McPhail/Hendry philosophy of competing within the division is not what I'm talking about. It's also something I hope they aspire to rise above.
  5. I would not be a bit surprised if Belichick's next gig is with Fox, CBS, NBC, or ESPN. or there is no next job He's 71. When I'm 71 I hope to be fishing and hunting as long as my body will let me.
  6. I think they think they are a year or two away from competing. But even when they think they are there I wouldn't expect them to break the LT threshold for multiple years. The Cubs have a lot of "nice" players in the minors. But their farm system is a lot like their major league team. They are lacking impact players. Maybe Horton, Shaw, and Alcantara will be those guys. Shaw has hit everywhere but we don't know if he has a position. Horton has been lights out, but he's not pitched many innings. Alcantara is already on the clock and has a lot of development to do. I can't speak for anyone else, I'm cautiously optimistic and also at the same time pessimistic, if that is possible. What I mean is that they do have a lot of apparent talent coming up from the farm, but perhaps not enough to be a perennial playoff contender. And they have demonstrated no willingness to want to be a perennial playoff contender through free agency. Maybe it will change once they think they have most of the pieces in place, but then they have to have the right players in FA.
  7. First Alabama’s money guy Senator retires. Now Saban. The state is in for some rough times. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if one of his old coaches like Kiffin or Sarkasian takes the job.
  8. Puts Eberflus in the position of drafting a QB and then getting fired, The Bears are on the rinse and repeat cycle.
  9. Bellinger/Champan is an either-or situation. They are not spending that kind of money short or long term.
  10. If after three years we are still asking these questions, the answer is, probably not. This is the meta-problem with the Bears. They don't have the high-level leadership in place to make the changes to make them a contender. In our lifetime, the Bears had one real contending team that was from, 1982-1985.
  11. I’d be interested to know how much juice Warren has to make big changes. I thought he was brought in to help with business of getting them new digs.
  12. Yes, for the foreseeable future, I'm done being skeptical of the pitchers they target either in the draft or FA. All the other frustrations with them aside, they seem to have that part down as much as any organization in baseball. It would be nice if they had some targets though.
  13. I don't think owners care one bit about that sort of thing. Dan Bernstein had a rant yesterday about the Bears' organizational expectations. Although he's kind of a douche, he's right about their expectations being way too low. But I'm also not saying that losing to Green Bay is any worse than losing to Detroit or Minnesota.
  14. I agree. He would have a hard time being overruled by a guy like Poles in player decisions. I cannot say I would blame him. If he makes the jump, he's going to go to an organization where he has more control over the operation. Not to mention the salary he will command. However, I think he's going to stay at Michigan, he's king and his personality is more suited for college football. His rah-rah stuff will get old quickly as it did in SF.
  15. Maybe I'm biased, but Skeens appears to me to be overhyped.
  16. I think a trade is much more likely. My bet is that Montgomery goes back to the Rangers.
  17. He's a lefty so they always look a little odd, but his footwork and body alignment looked awful. He has the size and arm strength to become a project for an outstanding QB coach. In the right situation, he could develop.
  18. Washington guard just got run over
  19. They lie all the time.
  20. This could be the year Dallas finally wins another one. I also like the Ravens.
  21. I'm fine with a Jesus Luzardo trade, just not what was speculated before. No one in the top 5. Morel + Wicks + Triantos/Canario.
  22. too much energy is already wasted on this is personal stuff. Kyle is allowed to have an opinion, even if you think it is off or weird or whatever. Let us let this die, please. I'd rather talk about the Bears' dysfunction than ours.
  23. they got to fire the guy already in the seat. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
