    The Cubs have been more or less successful employing a risky strategy. Last year it didn't work out. Bullpens outside of outlier examples are volatile, but if/when they think they are ready to compete for a world series I hope they are more willing to mitigate risk.

    It looked to me like both Wicks and Steele ran out of gas last year. I expect they’ll be ready for the grind. I think Steele will have a harder time replicating the results than Wicks will. But I’m bullish on the Cubs starting rotation.

    Totally agree. The job here is getting the BPA. You aren't doing that if you are going over the coach's head.

    If the choice is Bellinger vs. Chapman, the choice is easy. Bellinger, he's younger, plays a premium defense and a premium position, and is a better hitter. He's more versatile. I honestly, don't know what the debate is about.

    I'd love to have had Soler. Also, Davis hated Chicago. I think he's kind of a dickhead.

    I hope the Bears do their homework before they draft, that's all I'm saying. There is nothing wrong with changing plays if you have the talent to make it work. Peyton Manning is probably the pinnacle example.

    Lovie was fired after a 10-6 season, but they missed the playoffs.

    Rinesdorf is 87. He bought the White Sox for $19M!!!!! in 1981. I think he only owns like 20% of the team, but it's the largest majority. Crazy stuff. That's all I have to add.

    That's an oldie, but a goodie! Honestly, minor leaguers are like scratch-off tickets. If you are hoping to get rich, you're bound to be disappointed. I'm as high on Shaw as anyone, but the Cubs are not a strong enough team to hold a seat for anyone. And more to the point, we don't know if Shaw can play 3B at a high level.

    I'm interested in what happens when/if they sign Bellinger. I know there are a lot of ABs to go around in a season, but this would seem to at least make the Cubs listen to offers for Armstrong.

    Do you think that Horton is going to get a long look in Chicago this year? I would love that, but Hoyer has a prove-it mentality when it comes to minor leaguers where they almost have to force the issue. I suppose if he starts in AAA (is that likely?) and dominates...

    The Cubs have the makings of consistent offense. They have guys who can get on base, they have high-contact guys, but they don't have the sluggers. This isn't new information or some sort of behind the numbers type thing. I understand all teams go through hot and cold stretches and a lot is dependent on where the opposite team is in their rotation. But it seems strange to insist that the offense was consistently good last year.
