I would give the edge to Pierre, simply because GMJ can provide occasional pop, and a great glove. Whereas Pierre lone attribute is his speed. So, I would incline to say Pierre got the worst contract during the 2007 offseason, heck you can even say his contract is the worse in the past 15-20 yrs. Mike Hampton and Carl Pavano say hi. those contracts were a disaster because of injuries, though the pavano contract was especially indefensible given his injury and performance history. that being said, i think pierre's really is worse. he has consistently been a -15 glove due to his noodle arm, and his only value is in his batting average, which hasn't been particularly good the last couple of years, and isn't likely to get any better because he's on the wrong side of 30. he doesn't steal bases efficiently enough to make that a positive aspect of his game. his performance last year was basically not far off what his PECOTA projection was, and he was not much better than a replacement-level player. PECOTA projects his value over the next 4 years to be at about $8M - TOTAL - which is less than he's being paid PER YEAR. there is absolutely nothing about that contract that is completely awful.
