  1. Are you gonna complain about the announcers the whole time? perhaps
  2. God, now they're talking about which golf announcers they like.
  3. probably a tornado, but it can be a severe downdraft (strong winds that get carried down from aloft with the heavy rain), in which case it's just strong winds (which would sound like a tornado). Usually when they do their tornado survey they look for certain signatures in the damage pattern, like things being blown down in a non-uniform pattern. if things are blown down in one line, that's more indicative of straight-line winds.
  4. fukudome looks like he has a good idea how to be a professional baseball player... good to hear, DJ
  5. lol they just said "sometimes if you've got an instant run producer like rickey henderson, you've just gotta let him bat leadoff," and were comparing him to soriano. yeah i'd say that the .400 OBP or the ability to steal 80+ bases a year also made him a good candidate for the leadoff spot.
  6. hawk interviewing ozzie now... a real meeting of the minds here
  7. two steal attempts and a 3-0 green light against a guy who's struggling to find the strike zone. smart ball, indeed. oh yeah, can't wait to hear more brilliant analysis from hawk & dj on why this has been a "good camp"
  8. fans heckling rich hill with "airball" after he throws a bad curveball... uh wrong sport there pal
  9. good throw by soto, no chance though. good to see that rich finally threw a strike though.
  10. yeah moo better hope this doesn't go to overtime
  11. ahahaha flyers blow yet another game. tim thomas stops about 15 2-on-1 breaks in the third period, bruins score (andrew ference's first goal in 40 games) with the goalie pulled and 27 seconds left in regulation, thomas stops a clean breakaway in overtime, then aaron ward, another guy who can't score, puts in the game winner from the blue line about 10 seconds later. i'm so sick of this team finding ways to lose; please just miss the playoffs and let the misery be over with.
  12. I'm pretty sure the Reds may have as much talent as the 2003 Cubs. Not all loaded into the front end of the rotation like the 2003 Cubs, but more overall, and certainly as far as young offensive players go. But you are right about the Reds being maybe the worst possible fit. Dusty likes to abuse the pitchers, and that is where the Cubs' talent was. But Dusty will do everything in his power to plug vets into the lineup. Bruce, Votto and company have an uphill battle. they also have a lot of hitters who are patient, and that doesn't go over well in dusty-ball
  13. am i missing something here
  14. i propose that this post be deleted or moved to oblivion.
  15. i was lukewarm about the lieber signing, but the more i think about it, the more it seems like a really astute move. marshall is always an injury risk, dempster isn't good, marquis is at best an average pitcher, and may be significantly worse than average if he reverts to 2006. meanwhile lieber has never relied on power pitching to be effective. while he lost some command last year, he has a pretty long track record with a low BB rate (he actually has the lowest walk rate of any active pitcher with 1000 IP). as long as he throws strikes, he should be okay... the cubs' defense projects to be well above average this year. it's really imperative that lou keeps him on a short leash though; even if he's throwing well, he shouldn't be allowed to go much past 100 pitches, given his age and health history. the cubs should have a strong pen and an adequate long man (hart/marshall?) so they won't lose much by lifting lieber in the 6th.
  16. no, nobody wants dempster. 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K for lieber. am i correct in assuming that he probably wasn't even scheduled to pitch today? if all went as planned, it would've been dempster for 4, then relievers the rest of the way? or was lieber supposed to go today too?
  17. I have been preaching Cueto over Homer for well over a year now, and people are finally starting to come around. He has pinpoint control as well. The only reason he wasn't getting more hype then Bailey is because he is only 5-11. Edinson Volquez was making the Yankees look silly (8 Ks, 0 BB in 4 IP) with his heat (upper 90s) and change the other night. He's a step below Cueto though because his curve/slider is a work in progress. I think the Reds(save for Baker) are headed in the right direction. They have some really good prospects. I wish we had a Jay Bruce-type prospect in the wings. cubs were "headed in the right direction" in 2003, we all know how that turned out. They ended up 5 outs away from the World Series? yeah then they missed the playoffs with one of the best teams in baseball in 2004, then mediocre in 2005, then one of the worst teams in baseball in 2006. and all that from a team that had what was regarded as the best starting rotation in baseball, four guys in their 20s.
  18. another very nice outing for lieber, 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K.
  19. he's never going to be unhittable, but if he can get his walk rate back down to around 1.5 or 2 BB/9 IP like it was during his good years (and really up until last year), he could prove to be a very good signing. of course, health is probably the biggest issue with him, given the way things have gone since his TJ surgery.
  20. wait obama has a black father and a white mother, right? if so, i'd say he's most similar to derek jeter.
