yeah no kidding. what, do we need teagarden there to coach schwarber when ross is catching jon lester?

he's a terrible hitter who is the third catcher. he'll start, at most, once every five games and offers nothing with the bat or on the basepaths. carrying welington castillo was a liability, but at least he could come off the bench and give you a decent at bat. it's basically a wasted roster spot, miraculous hit yesterday notwithstanding.

i like his wikipedia listing: what an odyssey. 10 major league teams, 17 minor league teams, 4 winter ball clubs, and a stint in taiwan. hey regardless of how bad he is and how many homers the cubs can hit off him, after playing pro ball all those years i bet he will retire with plenty of $$$$ in the bank.. well according to baseball reference he's made only $8.9m in major league salaries. i'm sure he got more than the average minor league player in the 5 or so years while he was trying to get back to the majors, but once you take out taxes and paying his agent, i really doubt that he's got much of a nest egg set aside.

Aren't his rates amongst the worst in MLB? Looks like he's about equal to Wellington Castillo so far. Didn't mean to suggest that he was good. Just that he's not outlandishly bad and there are guys catching in the major leagues who are worse. Right, it's to enough to hope for improvement to somewhere close to average. Hopefully some of the framing skills of Ross, Teagarden, and Montero rubs off on him. let's hope that teagarden isn't on the team long enough for any of his skills to rub off on schwarber.

do you think they'd give schwarber more time in LF than at C next season? i tend to think that they'd want him full time at catcher if that's where they see him long term, just so he can get the reps and keep improving.

i don't see how you can start a sentence regarding baez with "outside of Baez's strikeout issues." yeah outside of mariano rivera's cutter, he wasn't a very impressive pitcher.
