    starlin castro could sustain a .340 babip when his line drive rate was 20%, his soft contact rate was like 15% and his hard contact rate was over 25%. now he's pulling weak ground balls all the time. yeah no [expletive] his babip has dropped. it wasn't purely lucky before and it isn't purely unlucky now. by the way, bryant's soft contact rate is 14% and his hard contact rate is 37%, so yes his babip should be high.

    even if almora can provide really good defense and mediocre offense - like leonys martin or kevin kiermyer - that's still a very valuable player at a league minimum salary. given that the cubs don't have an obvious long-term options at CF, i'm hopeful that almora can get there.

    i admit to being surprised when ross was on bereavement list for a grandparent passing away, but then i remembered that ross is only a year older than me and i have a living grandparent. i guess the difference is that i look about 20 years younger than ross.

    wow this guy sure is good at stating the obvious. if pittsburgh and st louis keep winning then the cubs won't gain ground? if the cubs lose and those teams win, the cubs will lose ground? if the cubs had won some games that they lost then they would be higher in the standings? thsi guy is a [expletive] genius.

    i felt like the giants' bubble gum and dreams thing was over in 2013, and then they won the world series the next season.

    the phillies are 15-5 in their last 20 games, which makes me feel somewhat better about having been swept by them recently. the marlins now have the worst record in baseball, to go along with the worst owner.
