Why would who we draft in the second round have any effect on how we handle our current CF? it's not one specific player, it's that - of the cubs' top 10 prospects - at least 5 (almora, mckinney, happ, dewees, jimenez) are outfielders, and then there are a number of other options (hannemann, zagunis, szczur, maybe alcantara if he stays in center, schwarber if he can't catch) as well. if soler is in RF then there are only two outfield spots for the talent coming through the pipeline. not that you avoid signing a player like fowler for a few years, but if you've got a lot of cheap young talent at positions on the field, you may be more likely to sign a stopgap CF (like what we're doing with coghlan/denorfia right now) rather than making a long-term commitment to a free agent who will require a 4+ year deal.
