  1. DL bradley, call up fox, play fox at 1B and hoffpauir in RF. God-awful defense but they'll at least score some runs.
  2. mojopin was a 13 year old girl in 1998.
  3. vitters' numbers scream "second coming of howie kendrick" which might be nice for a middle infielder, but not so much for a 3B. his numbers forbode a career progression stalled by injuries? well he's been getting hurt a lot since the cubs drafted him, so that could work.
  4. i like how everyone is described as a clone of an established nfl player, minus that nfl player's negatives. if these comparisons were valid, 90% of the guys in this draft would become starters in the nfl.
  5. i feel like the eagles have improved themselves hugely the last 2 weeks. they gave up their second first round pick to get a very good LT (jason peters). Maclin is a nice grab at 19 and will help the KR as well. they traded two 5th round picks for ellis hobbs, who at least will at least be a very good nickel back behind samuel and brown (who they shouldn't trade). i like mccoy a lot and think he might be the second-best RB in the draft after moreno. Ingram in the 5th round was a steal, as was Macho Harris. Most mock drafts also had Fenuki Tupou going a lot higher than the 5th round as well. Brandon Gibson was pretty highly-regarded last year but not so much after playing on a wretched Wazzu team. Lots of good picks and two nice trades.... looking forward to next season.
  6. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... what?

  8. The NFL really needs to change the way rookies are paid. I'm sure this is going to be a major reason why the players association and owners might not come up with a new CBA after this season. maybe, but i bet a lot of current NFL stars who weren't top 10 picks would be happy to introduce a system that places controls on the way that the elite draft picks get paid. elite OTs are not happy with a system that lets jake long be paid more than them without playing a down, for example. you are right that the system does need to be overhauled, though. it's gotten to the point where nobody wants to trade up for a top 5 pick because you have give up draft picks and then sink so much money into a guy who could just be a bust.
  9. unfortunately they lost so now cyno will tell us it's proof that avery is the best role player in the nhl.
  10. eagles need some speed off the edge so i'll pick connor barwin, DE/OLB, Cincinnati
  11. or no more cotts pitching for the cubs, i could get behind that idea.
  12. hopefully singles machine josh vitters can hit a few more tonight.
  13. FYP no, in 'n out burger is awesome. it's one of the few fast food burgers you can eat without a feeling of self-loathing followed by a half hour of diarrhea. Pooping within 3 days of eating fast food is not diarrhea. pooping with half of the burger still in your hand is diarrhea.
  14. i'm pretty sure he couldn't do that, because it would mean that his suspension was served during his DL stint.
  15. little baby prior and his torn labrum.
  16. Meh. The games in April are just as important as the games in September. My guess is that St. Louis will ultimately be the Cubs biggest challenge in the Central, so strengthening our bullpen prior to a series against our most likely challenger isn't "really stupid." it's probably not strengthening. samardzija isn't as good as you think he is, and vizcaino actually has value in his ability to get RH batters out. plus when harden and zambrano get hurt, who is going to start? not gaudin, apparently not samardzija... j.r. mathes maybe? terrific.
  17. i liked malkin running and then high sticking richards and then crosby cross checking him in the last minute of the game when down 3 goals... fortunately they don't play for the flyers so they won't get criticized for taking liberties when the game is over.
  18. i don't know what you were expecting. it's a fast foot burger. i don't think anyone has said it's the best burger, but it's a lot better than other fast food burgers you can get at that price. plus, like i said, their food seems a lot less greasy than other fast food options.
  19. Actually, if that's what you are basing it on, you should really rethink it. Latroy was supposed to be unavailable that game. He wasn't going to pitch. Dusty brings in Dempster, who let two guys on base, then rushes Latroy into the game. So he wasn't going to use him as the closer until he let the other guy put 2 guys on base first. That's setting a guy up to fail. oh yeah, dempster walking two bad hitters ahead of that was really pathetic too, but dempster has at least redeemed himself. hawkins had this terrible tendency to get ahead of hitters and then groove a fastball on two strikes. he gave up a pretty deep fly to a bad hitter before victor diaz' AB, and then did it again on a 2-2 pitch to diaz. he did it a couple of games later against the reds - had austin kearns in an 0-2 hole and threw him a terrible 0-2 pitch that got drilled for a double. i don't know if there is a "closer mentality" but if so, latroy hawkins certainly did not have it.
  20. most of it is pretty intuitive, but some of the two-strike results surprised me. i was very surprised by how poorly hitters do in a 2-2 count, and expected better results from the hitters in a full count. they do get on base a lot, not surprisingly, but the low BA and SLG shows that most hitters still swing defensively in a full count.
  21. the only game i ever saw at shea stadium was the victor diaz game. i drove up for the game with my dad. that gives me plenty of excuse to boo latroy hawkins as long as he's an active major league baseball player.
  22. if you think latroy sucked with the cubs, you were the one that wasn't paying attention. he had 29 saves and 13 blown saves in a cub uniform... that is horrendous. his inability to close games was a disaster, and i blame dusty for continuing to use him in a role that he wasn't comfortable with, but that doesn't mean that i won't boo latroy too.
