  1. in the top of the third he grounded out to first, pitcher covering. then he was subbed out in the bottom of the inning. so either he got hurt on a close play at first, or he was loafing and the manager got pissed off.
  2. donovan tate (#3 overall pick by padres in 2009 draft, $6m bonus) has been suspended for 50 games for a second positive drug test.
  3. jeffrey baez (17 years old, $350k bonus) seems like a guy worth keeping an eye on... hitting over .300 now with 18 SB and just 2 CS in 27 games.
  4. why the heck would the cubs have given $150k to easterling? he's a late-round draft pick as a college junior. unless he was an nfl draft prospect there would be no reason to pay him six figures.
  5. if anyone would like a better outfielder, i'd like to deal markakis for a mid-round pick. i also have kyle drabek pitching terribly in AAA. he was a top 30 prospect coming into this season and is only 23 years old, so if anyone would be interested in taking a flier on him, i'd listen.
  6. brooks raley has been less terrible recently. still don't like the low K rate, but if he keeps his walks down maybe he can be a back of the rotation guy. daytona are getting crushed... wallach was terrible. justin bour has two errors to give him 10, which seems like a lot for a first baseman.
  7. Fukudome would be a fit. I dont know about Aramis. Hed be an upgrade over whats his face with the mishapen head, but theyre paying him pretty well. My bet is that the guys the Phils would really want would be Marmol or Marshall. Marmol for Dom Brown anyone? placido polanco? i'm not even sure aramis is better than him, considering that polanco is an excellent defender and aramis doesn't hit for much power any more. domonic brown won't be traded unless the phillies get a reasonably good replacement for him.
  8. or the red sox could just trade for an outfielder and leave their awesome first baseman at first base.
  9. don't get your hopes up on starlin castro
  10. no in-season changes... leave the DL rule the way it was and then we'll discuss it after the season. as for the commissioner issue, people seem fine with keeping adam in the league (he can be grating, but he manages his team well and negotiates fairly) so if brian can't be commissioner or even participate in the league with adam continuing, then that's his call. frankly i find it pretty poor form to just unilaterally take away a manager's ability to manage his team.
  11. he never should've been sent down to daytona last year. his very poor tennessee numbers were largely due to a very poor babip in a small sample size (sub .200 babip in 71 AB). the cubs are morons and don't understand sample size or babip, so they sent him down to daytona and left him there for the rest of the year.
  12. Going by this season alone, Flahertys one of our top 3-5 prospects, and thats not really a good thing. that's why people don't evaluate prospects like that.
  13. we got a guy i really like with the pick we got for carter, so I'm pretty happy with that deal. the richards deal I'm not so sure about. depends on how good schenn turns out to be. with giroux, jvr, schenn, voracek and simmonds we are loaded with young forwards, but they need to take charge quickly.
  14. having pujols on my team is not particularly helpful right now
  15. WSR has somehow managed to spell lemahieu's name in about 50 different ways without stumbling upon the correct spelling.
  16. you can't be sure if the Indians are tied for first or have sole possession of first? Seems to me that's the type of thing that would be pretty easy to be sure about.
  17. His HR call is whatever comes to his brain. Give me that over the staged crap that Michael Kay, Hawk, Gary Thorne, the Mariners' announcers, et al. pull out of their mouths any day of the week. fyi, pat hughes has a home run call. harry kalas had one too.
  18. reading that quote makes me wish koyie had stuck his entire arm into that saw.
  19. I see 5, where were the other 3? batting practice
  20. that's not a bad contract to bryzgalov. the carter deal i understand - we were very deep at forward, van riemsdyk and giroux are becoming established as top-flight forwards, briere was really good, etc. voracek and the #8 overall pick was a nice return for carter. the one i don't get is richards, even though simmonds is a good young player and schenn is one of the top prospects in hockey. they could've kept richards and fit bryzgalov under the cap. there had been rumors about chemistry issues with richards and my only guess is that they were legitimate concerns. that being said, i now feel like the flyers' core is an old defense, a 30+ goalie and then forwards who are too young to win, so by the time the forwards improve enough to win (hopefully), the defense and goalie won't be that good any more.
  21. that's a pretty embarrassing answer by law
  22. [expletive] you holmgren
