  1. I visited ASU once, and I too was impressed with the girls there.
  2. if the redskins do this deal, it confirms that daniel snyder is indeed a complete idiot when it comes to football
  3. oh yeah, the cubs should draft little murt next year :D
  4. Stan Heath brought Kent State to their best season ever, and then took over a pretty lousy team and did this: 2003 9-19 4-12 2004 12-16 4-12 2005 18-12 6-10 2006 22-10 10-6 2007 21-14 7-9 I think Billy Gillispie is a fine choice and I don't blame Arkansas for canning Heath if they think Gillispie is available, but I actually thought Heath did an okay job at Arkansas. After back-to-back NCAA tourney appearances and some highly-rated recruiting classes, I think he deserved a shot to coach what looks like a strong team next year. Hope he gets another job and can prove Arkansas wrong for firing him.
  5. I'm pissed that I have to wait until game 4 to see Rich Hill. As for Marquis against the Cards - (1) they played with him last year, so they know he sucks, and (2) if they have a batting practice pitcher, they've probably seen his repertoire already. Let him pitch against the Pirates or Nationals, he might be able to beat them.
  6. Just like Shavlik Randolph? is this sarcasm? Shavlik Randolph is a decent bench player who can give you 10 minutes of rebounding and defense, but I sure as hell don't want to be picking a Shavlik Randolph clone in the top 20 of the NBA draft.
  7. In the Cubs' defense, they've given Murton a chance and he's proven to be worthy of the starting job, and they also gave Cedeno the chance last year, but he flopped badly. The only "overpaid and overrated" veteran you could be referring to this year, at least as far as position players, is DeRosa, and most people have said that there are significant questions about Theriot (pretty weak hitter through much of his minor league career) and Patterson (defense). The bigger problem with the Dodgers bringing in Pierre and Gonzo is that Kemp, Repko and Loney all have had time at AAA and don't have a whole lot more to learn in the minors. Loney and Kemp are also more highly regarded than the guys the Cubs have left in the minors in lieu of veteran free agents.
  8. Sort of like Kevin Youkilis... great discipline, great college hitter, but doesn't have great power and isn't a great athlete. Still, I have a few problems with the way you've analyzed him, Mephistopheles. First, he has 16 HR in about 680 PA, but because of his great patience, about 20% of those PA end up with him not swinging the bat. You can't penalize him for that. So really, he's got 16 HR in 530 AB, which isn't bad at all for a college player. The other main problem is that he did hit well for power last year. According to his bio, at the time he got hurt in 2006, he was leading the team in HR with 11. Add to that the fact that he's a good base-stealer and a very good defensive CF, and I'd say that he looks like a very good prospect.
  9. Because our record with developing catchers is so much better? :? when was the last time we drafted a catcher in the first round?
  10. He could turn on the radio and listen to dead air for four hours, that's about the same as listening to Jim Rome.
  11. In 2003, the Cubs came within 5 outs of the world series. In 2004, the Cubs signed Todd Walker away from the Red Sox. The Cubs collapsed down the stretch and have never been the same. The Red Sox, on the other hand, won their first World Series in 86 years. Is Todd Walker the culprit? This argument brought to you by Joe Morgan.
  12. I'll draft for the Chargers... my pick is Marty Schottenheimer, and I'm also granting Norv Turner his unconditional release
  13. He's going to be so awful this year. Worst signing of the Hendry era...by far He blows..Prior and Miller both in the rotation would be hell out alot better. yeah but given their track records, you're lucky if one of them is in the rotation and pitching pretty well I don't have a huge problem with taking a flier on Marquis, if you believe that Rothschild has found some problem with his delivery. I do have a problem with 3 years and $21 million. The number of years is the biggest problem - if he really is as bad as he was last year, you've still got 2 more years of sinking pretty big money into a guy who is completely worthless.
  14. don't understand this... If he has one good pitch and a couple of marginal pitches, and good pitching presence (whatever that means), how does that translate to relief "at best"? The guy just turned 21; there's time for him to continue to develop his change and breaking stuff.
  15. When are the next outings for Rich Hill and Mark Prior? That's all I care about at this point in the spring. Not that there's any drama left about Rich Hill, but he's awesome.
  16. I'm all for a high ceiling, but with the #3 pick in the draft, I want someone who's as close to being a sure thing as possible. Samardzija was fine, because that was a 5th round pick and the "safe" 5th round pick is probably just a fringe major leaguer. There's a very good chance that Wieters and Price will be at least decent major league players... I wouldn't say the same about Brakman.
  17. Now it's some sort of super-megaglut. Really, what team needs Clark when it already has Gonzo, Pierre, Ethier, Kemp, Loney, and Repko? Even with Repko down, they had five guys who can play in the outfield, and three of them can conceivably cover center. Loney has raked this spring; Repko hit pretty well as well. I don't think it's a bad trade for the Dodgers just because Dessens sucks and it doesn't matter that they won't have him. Just seems like a pointless trade to me... the Brewers do need relief help but they have enough bad relief pitchers already.
  18. You're right - so does that make Ronnie our backup-backup middle infielder?? In what situtation do you see him playing?? hopefully never
  19. we have a backup infielder, his name is Ryan Theriot and he's better than Clint Barmes
  20. Having a team in this league is like shooting fish in a barrel.
  21. kent has been "kind" to a lot of people
  22. Best piece of info from that whole thing: please, please, please be true
  23. Maybe... I just don't see how anyone in their right mind can forecast a batting average over .300 from a guy who strikes out nearly 200 times. It assumes either a big change in his ability to make contact, or a ridiculously high BABIP. For what it's worth, the four of the most prominent forecasts (Bill James, Marcel, Chone, Zips) predict an OPS between 905 and 923.
