"According to Indians director of media services Bart Swain, the Tribe is requesting that it be allowed to have one or all its players wear Doby's No. 14, which was retired by the club in 1994, on the anniversary of that event. The Dodgers will all be wearing No. 42, which was retired throughout baseball in 1997, the day of Robinson's anniversary." http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070405&content_id=1880875&vkey=news_cle&fext=.jsp&c_id=cle Thanks. That's good to hear. Yeah... Doby may not have been first, but he certainly did not have it easy. He also was the second black manager in MLB history. He will never be known the way that Jackie Robinson is known, but his contributions should be remembered, and I'm glad the Indians are taking steps to ensure that he will be.
