  1. good lord. for the money i sure hope so I'm better than Freddy Bynum.
  2. Paul Byrd has a no-hitter through 4 in that Indians game, too... I think they'll get the game in.
  3. ah i love to see rich hill staked to a 4-0 advantage without throwing a pitch yet
  4. You still have until midnight Pacific time tonight to drop him like a hot potato. :D I have faith in his lack of real skills and abilities. I do too, but the two other guys I considered there - Pierre and Taveres - have had awful starts. I decided to switch to Taveres because he's already 7 points ahead, and Coors doesn't offer much of an advantage to hitters any more - and especially not to hitters who can't hit the ball more than 150 feet.
  5. "According to Indians director of media services Bart Swain, the Tribe is requesting that it be allowed to have one or all its players wear Doby's No. 14, which was retired by the club in 1994, on the anniversary of that event. The Dodgers will all be wearing No. 42, which was retired throughout baseball in 1997, the day of Robinson's anniversary." http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070405&content_id=1880875&vkey=news_cle&fext=.jsp&c_id=cle Thanks. That's good to hear. Yeah... Doby may not have been first, but he certainly did not have it easy. He also was the second black manager in MLB history. He will never be known the way that Jackie Robinson is known, but his contributions should be remembered, and I'm glad the Indians are taking steps to ensure that he will be.
  6. Bump for good luck on Rich's first start of the 2007 regular season!
  7. It doesn't. But where are the white guys on the list? Hafner instead of Barfield? Mourneau instead of Hunter? A real statement would be to do what the Dodgers are doing and have every player, manager and coach wear #42. well yeah, but what if a team has black players and white players, and a couple of black players want to wear it with the reasoning that they're in the league because of him? It's not like white players can say that. I think the black players should be able to wear it first, if they want to. It'd be nice to see someone from the Astros and Braves do it though.
  8. boy am i shocked!
  9. Rich Aurilia is off to a fine start for me... Darren Erstad had better cut this good hitting crap out though.
  10. Right, but he was also one of the Expos' more highly-rated prospects, and a guy on whom they'd spent $2M to sign him away from playing football at Washington. He always had great tools and most people though the power would come along as he got more experienced. And, unlike other five-tool prospects turned bust, he always had very good plate discipline. Baseball America spoke very highly of the three prospects the Indians acquired in that deal, back when the trade was made.
  11. Montreal Expos trade Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, and Lee Stevens to the Cleveland Indians for Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew. this has to be one of the worst trades ever made. One of the best CF in the game, a pretty good lefthanded starter and an adequate 2B for 17 games of Bartolo Colon. Then again, Travis Hafner for Einar Diaz is just as big of a heist.
  12. good choice... I think Bears fans should be happy if this were to actually happen
  13. In real life, I don't think Olsen gets to the 27th pick. I actually considered him, but safety is a bigger need since we already have L.J. Smith, and Griffin is a real good player. There was also a WR who I considered... surprised he's not off the board yet. I could definitely see whoever drafts for the Chargers grabbing him.
  14. Sorry... what happened to PM'ing people after making your pick? I have to look at who's been taken... I should be able to go in the next half hour or so.
  15. I really didn't want to see another Florida-Ohio State championship game.... so I'm boycotting and watching "24" instead.
  16. roids might've had something to do with those 28 HR too...not saying we know that, but when a guy gets power seemingly out of nowhere, you have to ask the question
  17. Details please Was going to take a nap before work last night, but wasn't super tired, so I wanted to have a beer before going to bed. It was a bottled that wasn't twist off, so I used the bottle opener and right away as I opened the bottle, my finger started pouring out blood. I ran it under water for a while and bled on the kitchen floor, while trying to convince myself that it wasn't bad enough to go to the hospital. Eventually I realized that the bleeding wasn't slowing down and drove to the ER. It needed 8 stitches. Apparently the bottle opener is bad and it broke the top of the bottle as I was opening it, and the sharp glass sliced into my hand. The doctor pointed to the tendon before he stitched the cut... if it had been a tiny bit deeper I'd have severed the tendon and would've needed surgery.
  18. well, so much for winning $250 ... really could've used it to pay for my trip to the ER to get my hand stitched up last night. It's been a great weekend.
  19. there's oden's fifth! oh wait, they didn't call the blatant charge on him.
  20. The Gary Scott Memorial All Stars: C: Brad Ausmus 1B: Rich Aurilia (call it a hunch) 2B: Willie Bloomquist 3B: Geoff Blum (hope he gets PT, because boy is he a bad hitter) SS: Adam Everett LF: Scott Podsednik CF: Darin Erstad (please stay healthy!) RF: Randy Winn P: Wandy Rodriguez P: Jamey Wright Oh by the way, it's amazing how many San Francisco Giants I considered for the team. Their offense is going to be awful.
  21. wow, shortstop is such a tough position to pick. Cesar Izturis, Royce Clayton, John McDonald, Jack Wilson... Tony Pena could be a gold mine too. In the end I went with Adam Everett, who's consistently awful and almost guaranteed to play every day.
