  1. Maybe the Feds arrested the people running the pharmacy where he gets his juice. ;) he just turned 40
  2. I dunno. I picked the Cubs to win 74 games last year, which was the most pessimistic of anybody. Was that trolling? I've also been known to say that certain members of the organization suck.
  3. may not be fair, but he's never going to overcome the "non-clutch" label until he plays well in the playoffs for them.
  4. we know we're in trouble if abuck stops by this thread to say that our predictions are overly optimistic
  5. Even though I was too late to get my entry in - on account of getting hammered Wednesday night and passing out until 3 PM Thursday - I would like to put my Cubs predictions in here so I can see how I would've done. 1. Number of Cubs wins, 2007 84 2. Number of Cubs wins, Cardinals season series (16 games) 8 3. Number of runs scored, 2007 774 4. Number of runs allowed, 2007 722 5. Final Placement in the NL Central Division Second Player Stats & Scoring 1. Number of DLee Home Runs 35 2. Number of Soriano Stolen Bases 38 3. Murton's Batting Average .295 4. Aramis' RBIs 112 5. Carlos Zambrano's Wins 16 6. Jason Marquis' ERA 4.75 7. Rich Hill's Ks 215 8. Ted Lilly's Innings Pitched 180 1. Which will be higher: Z's batting average or Z's batting average against? BAA 2. Which will be higher: Aramis' HRs or Marquis' HRs allowed? ARam 3. Which will be higher: Cesar's OBP or DLee's batting average? Izturis 4. Who will have more HRs: Barrett or Murton? Barrett 5. Who will have more wins: Hill or Lilly? Hill 6. Who will have a higher K/BB: Zambrano or Hill? Hill Bonus II Questions (30 points each) 1. Most HRs: Soriano 2. Highest OBP (min. 350 ABs): Lee 3. Lowest ERA (min. 150 IPs): Hill 4. Most saves: Dumpster The Annual Tiebreaker: Michael Barrett's OPS .822
  6. He's actually been pretty hot to start the season. He's hitting .316 with a homer and 4 rbi, are you confident that he goes back to his usual self? Even though there are lots of other options at SS, I still am confident that Adam Everett will be the awful hitter that he's always been.
  7. Top 5? What are you, nuts? Only the Milwaukee Brewers have ever even heard of Rich Hill. I must be nuts too, because I'm picking him for top 5 as well. The real question is whether Zambrano can get himself back in the top 5. if ZiPS is right he'd get a few votes and possibly make top 5... if Bill James is right he'll certainly finish top 5 and have a shot at actually winning the award. And as for Zambrano, I'm picking Hill to have the better year... actually if I had to pick one for my fantasy team before the year, I'd have taken Hill. I'm sold.
  8. or gets incarcerated after another dui... maybe you're accounting for that with "moves on" though
  9. Top 10 isn't bold. Top 5 is. Come on. Go for it. I just might. yeah, I just realized that only 8 guys got votes last year. Fine, I'm in. If healthy (he's a Cub, always have to include this disclaimer), top 5 in Cy Young voting.
  10. Rich Hill will finish in the top 10 of NL Cy Young voting. There, I said it.
  11. in other news, apparently the Rams decided to forfeit their second round pick... or maybe i'm just really confused. Why'd the Rams pick 13th in the 1st round and now they're 20th in the second round
  12. oh wow, can i trade up? there's a guy i'd be thrilled to get this late.
  13. Did he get to a 3-ball count on anybody last night? I don't remember it happening. I always liked him, but I never imagined that he's have the type of control he's had since coming up the second half of last year. I always thought that if he made it in the majors, he'd get his BB/9 rate down to the reasonable range (4-4.5), keep his H/9 down around 7.5, and strike out a lot of guys. Instead, his control is actually better than the average pitcher. I guess the control issues really were a mental thing.
  14. I'll give our 5th starter a chance to actually start a game before I bury him. But Guzman might be better.
  15. Who then? well if you asked me before the year started who would be the cubs' best starting pitcher, I'd have said Rich Hill. Certainly don't feel any differently now.
  16. what's weird is that i don't consider carlos the ace any more
  17. fan cam is "worth it" a lot more during hot day games at wrigley
  18. he's all right... hopefully he can pitch better the next time out though :o
  19. oh well... hey it's the first game of the year, even though he wasn't tiring, they really don't need him any more. Great start to Rich's 2007 season.
  20. don't think floyd would've scored? he would've been out by 40 feet.
  21. ARam is a great player, but foot speed sure isn't his strong suit
