  1. His spring training OBP is .415, not sure why you'd be surprised he got on.
  2. A: Ryan Howard B: Andruw Jones, Adam Dunn C: Carlos Lee -> Prince Fielder, Nick Swisher, Justin Morneau D: Morgan Ensberg -> Jimmy Rollins, Miguel Tejada, Brad Hawpe, Chris Duncan, Jonny Gomes - Adrian Gonzalez WC: Holding off to see if a certain guy wins a starting job :D WC: Carlos Quentin -> Carlos Pena First Half Transactions: Second Half Transactions:
  3. Well since all my Elite 8 teams are left, I'll stand by those picks... that means I'm picking Florida, Oregon, Kansas, UCLA, UNC, Georgetown, Tennessee and aTm to win the Thurs/Fri games.
  4. even though he's not hitting much and it's only spring training but he does have 8 bb in 29 ab's so far along with a .405 obp. if he stays healthy i dont see why he couldnt put up .350 & .450 for a .800 ops in 2007. Obviously it's all guessing right now, and I'm rooting for Derosa, but he just looks like he's ready to tank. IMO. Because he's had 29 "poor" at bats this spring (even though his OBP is .405)? Or was this a prognostication by your Jump to Conclusions Mat?
  5. I wasn't saying right now, I was saying down the road. DeRosa will be the starter at the beginning of this season, and probably for most of this season, as long as he plays OK. Next year, I'd expect there to be more of a chance for Patterson or Theriot to earn the job, unless DeRosa really has a big year.
  6. btw, DeRosa isn't a great, established starter, so if Theriot or Patterson prove they are good enough to start, they'll be starting before DeRosa's contract is up. If/when that happens, he'll go back to being a utility player, a role in which he can still earn his contract and be valuable.
  7. Probably because the last time the Cubs made somebody a starter after watching him have an anomolously good previous year, they got to watch Ronny Cedeno play a full year as one of the worst hitters in baseball. It's not like Derosa has a long pedigree of success either, though. he's been an adequate major league second baseman for most of the past seven years. Ryan Theriot has been an average minor league hitter for most of his career.

  9. in other words, everybody else in your league is incompetent
  10. Yadier Molina. ah, we're expecting Blanco to be our playoff hero this year?
  11. Soto's hitting well in limited work this spring. Someone remind me of why the Cubs spent $5+ million on a backup catcher with a career OBP of .290...
  12. sweet, my midwest bracket is perfect so far
  13. And yet you picked Oregon to win. I think Oregon is really good too... and they're playing close to home. I've been on the Winthrop bandwagon all year and if they had been matched up in brackets with Pitt or Washington St, I would've picked Winthrop.
  14. told you guys winthrop was really good
  15. well i had Tennessee and have UNLV, so far so good... I also have Tennessee beating Ohio St, and really wish that OSU hadn't pulled that game out of their butts yesterday
  16. You hate Winthrop just because they beat your team? Jeez. I sure don't hate Southern Illinois.
  17. btw, one of my best friends is a winthrop grad, i'm going to do her a favor and stop rooting for winthrop so that they have a chance to keep winning
  18. what pisses me off is that if we played like we did against Bucknell in the PL final, we definitely could've won that game. Is SIU the best defensive team we played all year? You bet. But does that mean we should be making idiotic turnovers and missing wide open jumpers? Hell no. I mean, our two big guys went a combined 10-13, while the rest of the team, shooting mostly jumpers, went a ridiculously bad 4-29. That's the worst part - knowing we lost to a team we could've beaten if any of our perimeter players had actually showed up. But then again, it's a team I root for in the postseason, so I'm not sure why I ever bothered hoping that they might win.
  19. solid start for me... 14-2 with all sweet 16 teams intact. I have more upsets picked today, including Holy Cross, Albany, Arkansas and Illinois. Plus, I won some cash as Indiana-Gonzaga easily made the under (142 points). The only annoying part is that the two other games I really wanted to bet I would've had right (Butler -1.5, BC -3) but the guy wasn't getting to Vegas early enough to place those bets.
  20. A friend from work is headed out to Vegas and is placing some bets for me tomorrow... thoughts? Purdue +2.5 Oregon -8.5 Holy Cross +7.5 (hey, I have to) Purdue-Arizona: Under 138 Gonzaga-Indiana: Under 142 I also wanted BC -3 and Butler -1.5, but he won't be out there in time to bet those.
  21. pretty close to what I have. And hopefully people don't have Southern Illinois going too far, since they'll be out in Round One. :D
  22. What are some of your best calls in recent years? Mine... 2002: -Maryland winning it all, and 3 final four teams (KU, Maryland, OU) right -10 seed Kent St to the Elite 8 (probably my best pick ever) -12 seed Mizzou to the Sweet 16 (eventually made the Elite 8) -11 seed Southern Illinois to the Sweet 16 Needless to say, I won my pools that year. 2004: -UConn winning it all -8 seed Alabama beating 1 seed Stanford -7 seed Xavier to the sweet 16 -10 seed Nevada to the sweet 16 Think I did pretty bad the last two years... I tend to run either very hot or very cold.
  23. Well, the good news Raisin, is that I've picked UCLA to win it all. The bad news is that in years that I've won my brackets - Maryland in '02, UConn in '04, UNC in '05 - I knew who I was picking even before the brackets were released. Years when I haven't been too sure, I've done pretty badly. And this year, I didn't decide until today who I was going to pick.
  24. Truffle hasn't seen it yet. :D Now I have seen it, and I'm mad as hell!!!
  25. I always like to see people in my pools picking with their heart
