If we don't get Lugo, I would hope that JH would realize that Cedeno/Walker would be the best middle infield combo left. Walker isn't the greatest 2B around, but at least you know what you're getting offensively. I would love to have more speed at the top of the lineup, but Walker/Murton, Walker/Bradley, Wilkerson/Walker, or Pierre/Walker would certainly give more RBI chances to Lee and Ramirez than last year's Patterson/Perez. Unfortunately, Walker has become this year's Sosa and JH is obsessed with getting rid of him.

Perez will play in at least 150 games if he is healthy with Baker as the manager. I would like to see the Cubs aquire Lugo and put Cedeno at second while batting Lugo in the leadoff spot. Here's a team I think the Cubs might assemble and Dustys lineup:

Lugo SS

Perez 2B

Lee 1B

Huff RF

ARam 3B

Wilson CF

Murton LF

Barrett C

But unlike Sosa, Hendry should have no trouble dealing Walker. Low salary + excellent production. Wait, we could use some of that......

I'll never understand the logic of wanting to move Walker and sometimes I wonder if there isn't something else that bugs the Cubs about Walker that doesn't have to do with ability to play baseball.

If we don't get Lugo we'd be reduced to pursuing 3rd tier talent at SS. Once you get that far down the talent ladder the exercise beomes pointless unless your in-house options are totally awful. May as well go with the guys we already have. Perez is going to get a ton of playing time regardless of what happens, so the idea of just getting any warm body to keep Perez in a utility role is not smart thinking.

I agree. He seems to have rubbed the wrong people the wrong way since they signed him. Which is why I don't undersdand why the resigned him. Some team is going to get a steady if not spectacular 2nd.

I bet auggiedoggy is happy somewhere out there in Cubland :D

I hate you (only because you are right).

Also, I agree (as most have said all along), trading Walker is stupid from a baseball perspective. There must be some other reason for the Cubs wanting to get rid of him. I don't get it.

Based on what CP20 replied on another thread, it might be more like Cedeno at SS and Lugo at 2B.

Why would Lugo go to second after Furcal just signed a 13 a year contract?

They resigned him because he was a valuable trading piece to be used later on. I think it is pretty disingenious to say that it is stupid to trade him when you don't even know what he will bring in return. I don't think any player should be untouchable. While I love Walkers offense his defense is not that good and he is horrible in turning the double play and when you give up as many walks as the Cubs pitching staff tends to do it is important to have someone who can spin it at second.

Why would you say that...Nomar And Walker were the starters going into last season....Both are slow and are future DHs....Maybe you are trying to be funny...?

Hendry overvalues speed and defense.

Hendry has changed his approach this year, offering too much to Furcal, overpaying for Neifi, ignoring top RF help, ignoring Nomar, putting a for sale sign on Walker's neck, covetting Pierre, etc. etc. etc.

If Hendry offered too much for Furcal, I wonder where that places Ned Colletti.

I for one am glad Colletti was a moron and offered 13 freakin mill a year for a guy who performed his best in a contract year.

I love Walker. I always have. He kinda reminds me of Gracie a little bit. But he did have a big yapper that was going 24/7 last year.
