Yes, he has a NTC, but he can waive it. He might to Texas. Just a crazy idea here that would certainly shake things up--

Wood to Texas for Hank Blalock and a prospect

Aramis Ramirez and a reliever (eg, Novoa) to Philly for Bobby Abreu

I can't take credit for this trade idea, I read it on "another site", but I really like it. Philly has been looking for a 3B for years. I also like how the money would balance out some for us, Aramis 10MM vs. Abreu 14.5MM.

And I still like Blalock, he's young and had a tough 2005, but he's better than that.

You could even expand the deal some, maybe offer Jerome Williams and Todd Walker if Texas includes Soriano? That would help THEM balance out the $$ since Wood makes 11MM. And yes, I know Walker is probably better than Soriano, but Hendry apparently likes him, I'm just trying to figure scenarios that he might explore.

Blalock's home/road splits scare me. Why not just flip Blalock to the Phillies instead of A-Ram?

1. Takes value to get value.

2. Aramis helps even out the money--leaving plenty of cash for Hendry to still get the starting pitcher he covets.

It depends on whether or not the Phillies are looking to save money. Considering that Blalock was locked up to a fairly cheap deal and could still manage a good degree of production in that extremely hitter-friendly park, I think the Phillies would most likely have interest in him.

Also, A-Ram's second year opt-out might be problematic if the Phillies have interest in retaining Ramirez.

But Abreu is signed for just two more years. Hey, I'd be more than willing to use Blalock instead, but I think it would now take more than that to net Abreu and the player cost might get too high.

Doesn't really matter though, we all know Hendry won't do anything creative here. He'll trade for a couple mediocre players, sign one of the marginal FA pitchers like Jarrod Washburn, and call it an offseason. Ugh.

Honestly, Hendry and Baker can't leave soon enough for me at this point. Time for a change.

ARam is just entering his prime. Abreu is just exiting his prime. I think it's very likely Ramirez will out-produce Abreu over the next three years.

.325 .400 .600 is in the realm of possibility, IMO.

For this reason, this trade makes no sense for us.

I honestly believe that we are all over reacting and trying to trade away cornerstones because things seem so desperate. To trade from strength we could sign both Millwood and weaver and then deal Prior or Z. At least you don't leave a glaring need. No way i want blalock over Aram. Also what are the pitchers going to be like in free agency next year when we might have to replace wood and will have to replace maddux?.

Ok, I'll ask.

Why would the Rangers trade Blalock for a guy coming off of arm surgery?

Why would Wood agree to uproot his wife when she's expecting and from Waukegan to move to Texas?

Why would we trade a 27 yr old enetering a prime where he has a great chance to win an MVP award for a guy leaving his prime?

WHy would we want Hank Blalock? His away splits don't lie.

So we agree this is a ridiculous idea then. :D
