So if the Cubs don't don't get Furcal what do they do?

Hopefully start Cedeno or possibly trade for Lugo. I wouldn't mind Nomar, but I doubt the Cubs think of him as a SS anymore.

They still need to concentrate on CF and RF.

at this point id be tempted to pull out of the furcal race. anything more than 3-years/$40M is just insane. he's good, an anchor at the top of the order, but ponying up 6-years/$60M is just way too much for him.

i cant imagine hendry adding a 6th year. a 5th year was a stretch as it is, but but i would just pull out at this point.

can cedeno bat leadoff?? my new focus would be juan pierre and milton bradley. if we can bring those two in without trading todd walker, we'd be in pretty good shape. i would keep todd walker, especially if furcal ends up in elsewhere.

if we add pierre and milton, id still consider this a sucessful season. i would slide either walker or milton into the 5th hole, which isnt ideal because neither has 5th hole power but both bring high OBP to the table.

OF pierre

OF bradley

1B lee

3B ramirez

2B walker

C barrett

OF murton

SS cedeno

that lineup is much more well rounded than the 05 cubs. good speed with pierre, high OBP with walker, bradley, and lee, and power with lee and aramis.

we could still use another quality starter like zito, but at this point im just asking for any type of impact trade at all.

Pierre isn't a lock (lots of other teams are after him as well) and frankly, Furcal is a better leadoff man and defensive player. The Cubs have gone too far to take the offer off the table.

I HIGHLY doubt we have a legitimate shot to get Pierre. Supposedly, Florida wanted alot more from the NL teams than the AL teams in the Castillo deal. I think the Pierre deal will be handled in the same manner.

Not to mention that Rotoworld is now reporting that the Marlins have asked the Yankees to give up Robinson Cano if they want Pierre. Just imagine what they would expect from the Cubs.

The conversation would probably start with Murton or Cedeno. I don't give either of htem up for Pierre. I don't object to trading young talent, but I want better than Pierre for those two.

Don't worry guys, Neifi is working the phones as we type!

Neifi: "you're going to love Dusty. he'll never let some young punk take your spot."

Raffy: "no &%&$?!"

Neifi: "i could get caught with a dead hooker in the dugout and still start over Cedeno."

Raffy: "what about alcohol?"

Neifi: "dude. how do you think we handled losing 83 games last year?"

Raffy: "word."

Very poor post in my opinion... ^^^^^

So if the Cubs don't don't get Furcal what do they do?

Laugh at the Dodgers.

Then get laughed at by the Dodgers when we pay an arm and a leg for Pierre.

Or just don't get Pierre at all and laugh at the Dodgers some more.

That is what you or I would do. However, Hendry want's a "bona-fide, prototypical" leadoff hitter, and it seems to be his highest priority. If he doesn't get Furcal, who do you think he's going to go after to fill that void?

I am seriously concerned that if we don't sign Furcal, we're going to go after Pierre, and we're going to go after him hard.
