Now that the Red Sox have traded for Beckett, would they entertain the idea of trading Clement?

I know it's more likely that they'll trade Wells, but right now they have the following pitchers: Beckett, Schilling, Wells, Clement, Arroyo, Wakefield, and Papelbon that could fit into the rotation.

How does a return of Clement to Chicago sound?

What would be the cost of such a move as well?

Personally, I'd like for the Cubs to look into it.

Been there, done that. Clement is now a known quantity. And, at his price tag and with his inconsistency, he simply isn't worth it, IMO.

Not for the money he's due.

I'd rather try and take Vazquez off the Backs' hands and get them to throw in Carlos Quentin instead. At this stage, Clement is a "bad" contract, and its not like the situation in Zona with Vazquez, who could be considered a salary dump and get a solid player with him in return.

Passsssssssssssssssssssssssss.

Yep, I'd only like a player of that caliber and salary if we're using the bad contract to help shore up the outfield(Lowe+Bradley/Drew, Vazquez+Quentin/Tracy, etc.)

Vance, couldn't Patterson be more feasibly be placed in a deal for Vazquez and one of the other two guys who we sought?

Have the Backs had a legit CF since Steve Finley? All I remember seeing was the legendary Quentin McCracken there for most of last season IIRC.

Clement signed a 3yr 25 million dollar deal. I'm not sure how the money breaks down specifically, but he's roughly owed 17 million over the next two seasons.

I'd be all over him with his stuff - I've always like Clement. Worst case he's a #3 starter who eats innings. His only problem is he seems to wear down as the season wears on but managed right I think he could be very good.

edit - many grammar problems, i'm drunk

Over the last three years (yeah, the ones in which his has allegedly "figured it out"), Clement boasts a 4.13 ERA. He has an attractive WHIP around 1.28 during that period, but coupling that with his .239 BAA doesn't constitute a $9.5M salary to me.

I'd rather take Lowe, he'd cost less in terms of players. Plus Dusty benched Clement at the end of the 2004 season and Clement was really pissed. I dont think either side would like to reunite.

I'm not so sure. Clement loved Chicago and he and his wife were very close to Prior and Wood. My guess is he wouldn't mind being reunited here.

Under a different regime, yes.

I believe they also named their son "maddux" as well.....

Personally, I'd love to see Clement back, however, not for that price tag.....and who knows how well he's gonna bounce back from that shot in the noggin'.

No thanks.

Wells is the one leaving, not Clement. He's already asked to be traded to a west coast team.

Wouldn't theRed Sox likely rather rid themselves of Clements dollars instead of Wells? Also, the Red Sox may want to keep a LH starter around as well.

My guess would be that Wells is the one dealt, but I don't think you can rule out that they may be willing to trade Clement.

Oh, definitely. From the Red Sox perspective i can see getting rid of Clement's contract. However, Wells wants out. If Clement goes while Wells stays, it will be against Wells's wishes.

I guess they could get rid of both if they wanted. It looks like whoever is in charge over there is willing to let top prospects go, so they could have a lot of attractive options. The winter meetings should be very interesting.

I would rather have Vasquez for the same amount of money. I just don't like not knowing which Clement will show up each day.

Agreed. I don't think I could handle another season of watching Clement walk the bases loaded and then strike out the side every other inning.

Or take a no-hitter into the 6th and have to come out because he's walked 7, threw 125 pitches, and we're trailing 2-0.
