I found this blog in which he describes how prejudice has affected the Cy Young voting.

And you know what? I agree with him. It makes sense to me now.

Thoughts?

Everything is prejudice or discrimination these days. Maybe the fact that Carpenter played for a team that went to the playoffs had something to do with it. The funny thing is they mention how Willis won the ROY over Webb well I for one thought Webb pitched better but Dontrelle was on a better team and had all the hype so he won it. Where's the prejudice there? Sounds like double-standards to me.

Well said. I thought the same thing a few years ago, but forgot about that while reading this article/thread.

Why do we even make such a big fuss about awards like this anyway? They're voted on by jackasses, and just because Carpenter won, does that make Dontrelle less of a pitcher?

What about Roger? He (and arguably Petitte) had the best season in baseball. Given some run support, this isn't even a discussion. Yet he finished behind the victimized runner up Dontrelle.

Give me a break.

Well... maybe I"m taking it too seriously. The article was kind of funny, especially with the "twist" on what we assume the articles about.

I'm over it now.

there's that double-standard term again.

okay, you're right, white people have been just as oppressed as black people here in america, and it's a terrible, terrible travesty that white people have to put up with all of dave chappelle's jokes and negative stereotypes portraying white people as weiners. one might consider it one of the worst crimes in the history of man!

I love reading how people respond without even reading the article.

lefties suck, unless you're talking about lefties.

That's all well and good -- and equally easy to dismiss unless you know what really happened. It wasn't just that Dontrelle happened to be called up when the Marlins turned things around. Teammates (old and young) credited Willis for providing a spark and changing the team's outlook.

good support for your argument.

funny that he mentions mcgwire and bonds, but fails to mention sosa winning the mvp in '98 over mcgwire.

Yeah, well all I know is if a white manager had the same comments that Baker did about black people taking the heat/sun better than white he would be fired. The world isn't perfect and like it or not there are double-standards out there as well as racism and prejudice.

yeah, well, i'm sure that josh gibson would have forgone the right to say things like that just to play in the major leagues. there are far greater injustices in the world to pay attention to than dusty making some idiotic statement.
