Thought I would start a poll to see who wins for the NSBB coach of the year. I am just picking a few off the top of my head, so sorry if I exluded anyone.

I know there a few games to be played yet so maybe this is a coach of the year so far poll.

I hate having to deny Charlie an award that he'd have won in just about any other year, but Penn State was in much worse shape coming into 2005 than Notre Dame was, and it's not arguable that PSU has been better than Notre Dame this year.

I give it to JoePa.

Carroll and Brown have much more talent than JoePa, their coaching jobs aren't as impressive.

Weis & Spurrier inherited lesser teams, but Spurrier has 4 losses, and Weis lost more than one game with a subpar schedule(I'M BIASED).

Miles inherited a great team, but he's probably my runner up because of the hurricane circumstances.

Shula's done a great job, but he's lost two in a row, probably above the other multiple loss coaches, same plane with Carroll and Brown.

JoePa for me.

I'm biased here, but no Spurrier love?
Nope. Joe will run away with this one. Doesn't matter who else you put in the poll.

I don't care one way or the other, just wondered why he wasn't listed at all. But when most of the board couldn't care less about the SEC, it's to be expected I guess.

Les Miles is up there and he is SEC. I just overlooked him, thats all. While he is doing a good job, I would not consider him to be a coach of the year. There are just too many other good ones this year IMO.

Isnt it weird to give it to a coach who took less responsibilty of his team this year than last year and got better results? He still gets my vote for at least adapting the offense to mrob and letting the assistants execute the plan. Quinn was already a good qb when weiss came to town.

I thought the same thing about JoePa but the fact is he is still the head coach. I don't really know how much responsibilty is relenquished, but I am sure all coaches let their assistants deal with certain aspects, I just don't know to what degree.

Quinn is 8x better this year than last. His whole approach is different. The way he drops back is different, his ability to read defense is improved, he checks his progressions better, he doesn't force passes, etc. He is actually coached now. He even said himself that he felt like he was never taught anything under Ty. Plus Quinn is only 1/22 of that football team (that starts). However JoePa is the winner in my mind. He has turned that team around in an unbelievable fashion. Congrats to him and PSU.

Yep. Quinn used to drop back by moving forward. it rarely worked.

:o

HAHA, good one :D I wanted to avoid using the word "mechanics" and that is the best way I could think to phrase it. Perhaps I should just say his footwork is much improved.
