He basically insinuated that more moves would come via trade than via signing.

Also that RH relief starting pitching would be addressed, and there will be an focus on defense, particularly in the infield.

Greasing the wheels for a TWalk trade...got to love the random propoganda they come up with for why they need to get rid of good players.

An 8th inning setup man is more important to the Cubs success than keeping Todd Walker. If I can trade Walker for Jesse Crain, or Mike MacDougal, or Rafael Betancourt, I do it happily.

It is becoming more and more clear that Hendry is enraptured with the pitching and defense model, and given how "well" the alternatives have gone for us over the years, then what the heck, I'm all for it. At least it's a coherent strategy, even if ultimately flawed.

Add a RH setup man in exchange for Todd Walker; sign another starting pitcher or trade for one with prospects. OK, I'm game.

thanks goodness...that swiss cheese infield must have cost the cubs at least 45 wins last season.

Those 3 guys are pretty good relievers.

Oh, I agree with you. By why can't they not go through this lame propoganda.

"Hey, we need pitching"

Also, if we got Jesse Crain for TWalk, certain things might happen in certain regions of my body that would be considered the lower hemisphere.

On Neifi and Defense

We obviously need to shore our defense. Defense in the infield is a priority. Bringing Neifi back, no matter what role he ends up being in, is a positive because he catches everything.

Outfielders

We would like to find the right guy that could really help us. We've got some decisions to make in house obviously. We don't go into it looking like we have to have power, we have to have the best player.

Trades

What we're going to see is a certain amount of clubs all chasing the same 10 to 12 free agents, or a lot of that group. When the music stops, and all those guys get signed, all of us will still have holes to fill that aren't available in the free agent market. So the change in scenery trades I think you'll see some of those. We can help you over here, we got some pitching we can give you for this guy. I think you'll see some good, fair, old baseball trades being made this winter.

This is the best transcription I could get from what Jim Hendry said during the interview.

This team is going to stink, I feel.

dude, we're going to have good defense.

now we'll only lose 3-1 instead of 4-1! yay!

I'm trying to get the interview converted to MPG. Know anybody that can host a file? Some things I liked what he said and some things I didn't.

I think yousendit.com can host it. How many Meg?

I got it down to 17mb. Let me see if I can host it on my personal web page if not I will use yousendit.com

Neifi back is a positive because he can catch. I cant believe he said that.

He said it in the paper too, that whatever Neifi gives up offensively he makes up defensively.

Well, Hendry's plan is to be a pitching and defensive juggernaut. We'll see how it works out for him. I think he's obsessed with the Angels and White Sox though and their "model" but at least he has some sort of plan, even if I disagree with it.
