If true, I still think I'd rather have Mike MacDougal for Walker than Heilman. But, the encouraging thing if true, is that it ought to take the Mets firmly out of the running for Furcal, and make it Cubs vs. Braves, right? Unless they plan on playing Walker at 1B and forget about Delgado, which seems hard to believe.

So in the end, if moving Walker means you nail down Furcal AND get Heilman, I'll take that outcome.

Heilman is an ND alumnus. :)

I still don't want him but I thought I'd bring that up. The ND guy I want on the Cubs is Grant Johnson, whom we already have.

I'm still holding out for UW-Whitewater alum Bob Wickman.

Yeah, I know he sucks, but *points to avatar*.

Heilman has filthy movement on his fastball.

I read somewhere that he went back to a lower arm angle this year like he had in college. From my understanding, the Mets had him throwing a lot more over the top prior to this season. Once he went back to his preivous arm angle, the movement came back. He was very good out of the bullpen this year.

Indeed.

His split from this year...

As Starter, 42 IP, 38 H, 5 HR, 13 BB, 34 K, 4.71 ERA

As Reliever, 66 IP, 49 H, 1 HR, 24 BB, 72 K, 2.18 ERA

Also, his splits as a reliever...

May 5th, 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 HR, 1 BB, 5 K, 0.00 ERA (0 ER)

May 15th to June 21st, 13 IP, 12 H, 0 HR, 1 BB, 13 K, 0.00 ERA (0 ER)

June 22nd to ASB, 9.2 IP, 12 H, 0 HR, 4 BB, 9 K, 12.10 ERA (13 ER)

ASB to August 29th, 19.2 IP, 17 H, 1 HR, 5 BB, 24 K, 0.92 ERA (2 ER)

August 30th to END, 20.1 IP, 7 H, 0 HR, 13 BB, 21 K, 0.44 ERA (1 ER)

So he consistently struck a lot of people out, his control was consistently good until the last part of the season, when he may have been tired, having already thrown 87.2 innings by August 30th, he consistently didn't allow home runs, and pretty much all of the earned runs that he did allow as a reliever came in a spell that lasted just a little more than two weeks. Strange, that.

Same site says there is more talk in NY about this deal. They were right about the Cameron trade. I guess I would rather have Heilman than McDougal?

wickman closes for the indians and last year he had a 2.47 era with 45 saves. i wouldnt say that sucks.

i wouldnt mind heilman for walker but according to espn 1000 this morning the cubs have a long term deal on the table for scott eyre so i dont know what they would od with him unless they want heilman to start.

Isn't Eyre LHP?? I like this deal if Heilman is used in the pen, could be a very nice addition.

eyre is a lefty. i thought heilman was also but i was mistaken. he would be a good addition to the cubs pen if they can get him for walker.

Hey everyone long time lurker, first time poster. I see mlbrumors are coming up not true. I really hope Hendry can come up big in the trade market. Im ok with Furcal and Eyre... but I think he can bring Cubs back to 03' level with a few smart trades.

They better be better than an 88 win team. The '03 team wasn't all that great, they just got lucky with rivals that failed and won one round of playoffs.
