Okay, clarification on the title - not what you want, but what you think.

CF Pierre

SS Furcal

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

RF J. Jones

LF Murton

C Barrett

2B Cedeno

I think that will be our lineup last year, pretty far off from my preferred lineup of Castillo/Bradley/Lee/Ramirez/Giles/Nomar/Murton/Barrett.

Pierre and Furcal seem inevitable, and I think the Cubs will make only a slight run at Giles and "settle" (though they won't feel that way) for Jacque Jones.

Also, I think Pierre and Furcal will happen pretty quick within each other, and probably pretty soon from now...

That's why I would also be disappointed if we don't end up with Giles.

It doesn't matter. The Cubs won't get the right people and they will miss out on the playoffs again because Hendry is still the GM.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot...and Baker is a complete idiot.

And so is Hendry.

Just thought I would speed things up and bring this thread to its natural conclusion.

Oddly, no one will be laughing if it does come true. :-k

If Hendry fails to bring in an impact bat for RF, fails to get Furcal (or Nomar) for SS, and allows Neifi to do anything other than come off the bench and/or bat 8th when he does, then I will be shocked if they make the post-season. I mean, no one expected the White Sox to be as good as they were, so strange things happen in baseball, but I would be floored if the Cubs made the playoffs without those three things happening.

Hm.. never really considered Jenkins as a viable option, but now that you mention it, it seems feasible.

The one risk with Jenkins is always injuries, but he's stayed healthy the past two seasons.

With his contract at:

06:$7.5M

07:$7M

08:$9M club option ($0.5M buyout)

It's definitely a move I could see the Cubs making, especially if they decide Giles isn't worth $4 million more than Jenkins (which I think the bidding could get to and even pass that number).

What I expect:

SS Furcal

RF Patterson

1b Lee

3b Ramirez

C Barrett

LF Murton

2b Perez

CF Pie

At least we can assume we'd have a pretty good defensive outfield.

I still think that we could see a trade come out of nowhere since Hendry is infamous for such a transaction, one in which we acquire Castillo, and Bradley.

SS Furcal

2B Castillo

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

CF Bradley

RF Jones/Wilson

LF Murton

C Barrett

That is about a good a lineup as i can optimisticly come up with even though dealing with that Hendry wont sign Giles sadly, and that he will pursue speed and defense. I really like Furcal, Castillo, and Lee in the infield though, with ramirez' improving D at 3rd.

Meh, someone had to do a joke one like this

When the stakes are high, Hendry manages to pull off the big trade. Since his future is at stake this offseason, I think he will do it again--I think he'll pull the trigger on the big trade for Bobby Abreu. Reading the tea leaves, I think he's gun shy on Giles because of his age and declining HR production. But you can't deny Abreu's assets, and his "5-tool" skill set must make Hendry's mouth water. So my complete expected team is:

CF--Juan Pierre

SS--Rafael Furcal

1B--Derrek Lee

RF--Bobby Abreu

3B--Aramis Ramirez

LF--Matt Murton

C--Michael Barrett

2B--Ronny Cedeno

Reserves: Neifi Perez, Jerry Hairston, Jr., Adam Greenberg, Russ Branyan, Henry Blanco

Starters: Carlos Zambrano, Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Greg Maddux, Glendon Rusch

Bullpen: Ryan Dempster, Jesse Crain, Michael Wuertz, Scott Williamson, Bobby Howry, Will Ohman, Jon Koronka or Jermaine Van Buren

I don't think Hendry will make a big push for any of the FA starting pitchers, and I think Walker nets us Crain for setup (perhaps in a 3-way deal). I am earmarking Jerome Williams, Roberto Novoa and either Felix Pie or Rich Hill as the price for Abreu, and Corey Patterson and Brandon Sing as the price for Pierre. Whichever of Hill or Pie we do not trade I see spending a full season at AAA Iowa.

I am now putting the dropcloth over my crystal ball....
