Can you imagine signing someone of Matsui's ability away from the Yankees because they couldn't/wouldn't meet his asking price? :shock:

 

That would certainly be a sign of the coming apocolypse.

 

If he was signed by the Cubs and that led to them going to the World Series, that would another sign of the coming apocolypse.

I'd be happy with either Giles or Matsui, honestly. Both are good players who would really help this team.

This is strange becasue ESPN Radio a couple of days ago reported that Matsui had re-signed.

the Yankees must come to a deal with Matsui by tuesday or he is effectively released. The Yankees would not be able to negotiate with him until May. It was part of his contract when he signed. He wanted the option to become a FA, and the Yankees agreed to it.

 

I'd still expect him to be signed by Tuesday though.

I agree, but I think Matsui would end up getting a much higher contract on the open market. I think Giles fits our team better, so its a no brainer

Matsui's best asset is that he is pretty good in the clutch. It's one of those intangibles that goes beyond the stats. would love to see him in Cubbie blue.

Bruce Levine just mentioned that Matsui will resign with the Yanks to a 4 year deal worth 12mil per.
